    Holy crap, can't beat that!

    • +5

Optus has the same (well, 10GB) for $36/mo with student discount. No need to wait for "free months" or "cashback". IMO the better option.

      • +3

Where can i find this deal?

        • Isn't posted as doesn't directly meet guidelines, though you simply need to contact optus chat. Say your friend is on the older $60 sim only plan with 10GB of data but is getting $20 off and 10% student discount. (And/or say the $40 10GB plan - either works). They're happy to allow you on it still.

Same plan with 8GB available publicly (http://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub/student-phone-plans/?s…), though for the 10GB plan you'll need to contact chat. Worth the 5-10 minutes imo, though for some the 8GB plan will do the job.

  • +3

I'm on Amaysim. Do i want to switch to Virgin mobile ? :D

    • They are both on the optus network

    • +3

Customer service with Virgin mobile is outsourced overseas, and has some terrible policies, in my experience with them. Never again.

  • +9

have to call this a good deal.
if the OP takes up this deal, maybe they can then afford to buy another vowel for their nickname!

    • +7

… and also lend you one.

      • +2

        tht stngs!

  • Awesome deal. Now just need a provider on Telstra network to match.

  • Is this meant to be the deal that tops Woolworths Galaxy S7 deal?

  • +1

    There's $500 standard international calls

    • +1

      Description says $300

      • +1

        Spoke to Online Chat:

"Louie: That was an error but the real credits that the $50 sim plan comes is only $300 for International - sorry for the confusion. "

      • CIS states $300 for international calls and text, that's what i read.

    • It now shows $300. Anyone have a screenshot showing the original $500?

  • Very tempting as I'm off contract shortly…… do I need a new phone or not though hahahaha

  • +2

Hmm, I keep going over my data on Vaya. Seems like this would be a good deal. So the bonus is till you cancel or change contracts right? Thats what I see in the fine print.

Bonus Data: available when you sign up before 15 August 2016. Bonus amounts are: 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 7GB & 5GB for the $30, $40, $50, $60 & $80 SIM (only) Plans, respectively; and 500MB & 1GB for the $40 & $80 (24 month) Phone Plans respectively. You will receive the bonus on top of your standard monthly data allowance (to use in Oz) until you cancel or change plans.

  • Thanks for the post decent value. Also can someone please point me to Where it say $300 international credit. Couldn't locate this. Thanks.

  • +1

Thanks guys. Almost ready to pull the trigger on this. Currently on amaysim. Never used Virgin. Can someone please shed some light on how the coverage is compared to amaysim, which uses optus network.

    • +1

I thought Virgin were an Optus MVNO as well?

      • Is it ? Not a clue. Will wait for other replies.

      • +1

        They do.

    • +2

Been on Virgin ~10 years… no issues to complain about. Sydney/Wollongong regions

    • Optus = Virgin, and coverage wise = vaya, amaysim, jeenee, iinet, spintel etc etc

  • Sounds like a deal where its better to stay on for 6 months and reevaluate options after..

    • even if you go on this plan for a year, works out that u pay $500/12months or $41.6/month for these values. Pretty sure that in 1 year time, much better deals will come haha.

  • Bonue Data = 4GB bonus + 3GB online bonus

Does both of these would end in August or just the 4GB?

    • You will receive the bonus on top of your standard monthly data allowance (to use in Oz) until you cancel or change plans.

      • does it say anywhere?

  • +5

talking to a rep online. you are only eligible if you are a new customer, not if you want to change your plan.

    • +1

Was about to ask. Thanks for the doing the leg work.

      • +1

no worries. I'm tempted to transfer my number out and then back to virgin for this. but as other have observed, there will probably be a better deal soon anyway (and i would have to pay out the 3 months left on my current plan)….

    • +1

I'm arguing this point right now. He hasn't been able to show me anywhere that it states its only applicable for new customers so far.

      • let me know how you go. i argued the same thing but the guy gave up trying to explain how.

        • +3

They've offered it to me. Now I'm fuming so much about the bad customer service I don't know if I want to give them my business anymore.

        • @kevsta89: i wonder if i should try again. i was going to go the amaysim $40 plan, its only 7gb, but i think that would be enough for me, and saving the 10 a month adds up too…..

        • +1

@QWUX: Yes I think I get 7GB at the moment and never come close to using that even when I try. I'll probably be moving away from Virgin after the pathetic customer service I just received. Pity, I've been with them for over 15 years…not that they seem to care about that mind you.

    • I did an online chat, the rep told me she couldn't order it for me, as it's an online deal. I asksed her how I could keep my number if I order one online (with Virgin no plan atm), she said, when receive the sim pack, call the helpline to get it sorted.

It seems there is no mention this deal is only for new customer from its web ads.

  • +6

Great deal. Still prefer the 10GB data plus unlimited calls/texts for $40 which is signed up for a little while ago though. :)

    • me too…..have your bills been ok? theyve had a few stuff ups with mine so far

      • +1

Mine have been fine so far. Although it still throws me sometimes when I get a $60 bill, as they apply a $20 credit to it each month rather than just charging $40. :p

        • Wait, that's what's been happening?! That also really threw me off lol.

Hmm, for some reason this month I didn't get that -$20 adjustment. Is this meant to be a limited time thing?

        • @Nobita: Query it. It is manually added after they send the bill. twice mine was not deducted so I was charded the $60. It took a few attempts and a rectified bill of $20 to get it right.

          So silly

        • @theaussie:
I'm on the 60 plan with the promo to 40 per month.
Every time I get my bill, I spend time on online chat to get it rectified and resolved.
          It evetually does.
I was refusing to pay, till they sent me out the correct bill.
After the obligatory sms about being cut off, I find I pay the Bill, then get into a discussion how I'm on the promo to pay 40 per mo 8th. It does get resolved, just tiring do doing it every time.

        • @albanyson: yep this is the same with me. every month i have had to get onto the chat. Im waiting for something about $5 month cheaper elsewhere for similar data then I'm off

  • +8

I ported away from virgin recently because they overcharged me 4 times in 4 months, despite me chasing them to get it fixed each time.

  • +1

Holy crap. Is this a good deal? What are international rates like? Minimum contract, and when does this promo end? My Vodafone contract runs out of 15/7.

If it's worth taking I have a lot of Woolworths $30 Starter Packs to get rid of.

  • +1

    $50 for this or S7 for $70?

  • This Optus plan was better because it included 300 minutes worth of international calls. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/248367

    • +1

With Virgin Mobile you also get unlimited international calls as well to some countries which might make up for the $300 value they are including vs the 300 minutes with Optus. Another thing to consider is with the Optus deal the 300 minutes was to select countries where as this $300 value is for any country.

It will cost you less than the Optus deal if you stay for 3 months or 6 months at $33.33 per month with the Virgin deal as the OP has said.

  • Bonus data ends 15 Aug 2016.

So you will be roll back to 4GB only every month..!!

    • +2

No, if you sign up after August 15, you won't get the bonus data. If you sign up before you get the Bonus Data until you change contracts/deals or leave Virgin.

  • Anyone experienced with the Optus 4G plus network? How is it compared to Telstra 4G plus? Thanks.

  • +2

If listen to Guvera once each month data becomes 12Gb/month (4GB included data + 4GB bonus + 3GB online bonus + 1Gb Entertainment Data Reward)

  • How do you port your number if you have to give your current carrier 30 days notice? Do I tell my current carrier and then sign up for the new contract in 30 days?

    • According to this you can specify when your carrier ports over. So I guess tell virgin to port over 30 days from today, but get them to notify the current carrier today?

  • I have one day left in my virgin billing period. If I apply to port to analysis now will it happen in time to avoid a whole months worth of fees from Virgin or should I plan ahead for mid July?

    • when i was going to leave virgin they told me if you port out the bill is pro rata.

Jump onto online chat and ask to be sure

      • Yes that's a good idea. Might as well get it over with.

  • +2

Plus Virgin has data roll over. Any data not used in the current month will be available the next month (you can only roll over one month's data). This helps with the odd months where you need more.

  • +1

Wow, what a good deal for so much data and credit.

In regards to the fine print

    "$300 Standard int'l calls & text included"
    +
"UNLIMITED Standard int'l calls to UK, USA, NZ, China, India, Canada & Singapore. Ends on 15 Aug 2016."

Anyone know if Hong Kong is included as part of China?
Kinda of a grey area since it was returned to China in 1997 but still operated under special administrative region.

EDIT: Just spoke to Virgin online chat and got told Hong Kong is still a different location so it's not yet included on unlimited international calls.

  • I dont see 300 international minitues

    • It's $300 value of international calls not 300 minutes.

  • My bad. Sorry lol

  • I just checked and found unlimited international calls is in $60 plan ? Or did I miss something ?

  • Hi Guys, does anyone has screenshot of the offer page where it says Unlimited overseas calls to some countries. I signed up to this offer ditching Vodafone $35 plan including 300 int min and now Virgin claims that they never offered unlimited overseas calls to some countries in this plan.
Web cache is available for May only and it shows old plan offer expiry date.

  • Awesome timing! Im addicted to this place
