Good deal, even better if you can bundle it with the broadband discount + student discount

  • So this plan doesn't have the 10% student discount, does it? Applied the previous similar deal that had the student discount couple of months ago, but I had to cancel it after it took like almost a month to have the SIM delivered. Not sure if I wanna commit to an Optus deal. Their customer service sucks.

    • yeah it does - if you're a unidays member you can use the code

  • +8

If only it was month to month. Still a good deal.

    • -7

What do you mean? It is month to month..

      • +7

i.e. not a 12 month "contract".. this is definitely not "month to month" by any means except by the fact that you pay for one month at a time.

Don't know why the neggers (besides me) didn't explain this to you

  • +3

Thanks - i just changed my $60 month to month with 9GB to this. Got it for $36 with student discount……

    • comes with 1 year EPL subscription free
    • Come on Hammers!!!!!! We've got Payet, Dimitri Payet, I just don't think you understand!

I never had EPL on Foxtel because Rupert Murdoch is a (profanity).

  • how do i get the discount

    is there a code

or do i have to show proof that I'm a uni student

    • +1

Just like digitalane already said, you have to be a unidays member, which requires you to verify that you are a student when you sign up, to get the unique unidays code optus will ask for.

  • +3

In fact I've gone for it twice - $72 for 20GB is a steal and i can use the spare sim in my car, tablet, give to friends who come to visit as i please :)

    • $35/10GB mobile broadband with Optus. Saves $1 at the cost of no calls/txts.

Also, month-to-month.. No risk of getting ripped off by a contract if data prices crash in 6 months!

      • Well worth the extra $1 for the flexibility of that extra sim - i often have friends from overseas visiting and they can use it whilst they're here

Optus also messed up my original transfer so for some reason I have 19gb plus 10GB :)

        • $35 plan includes extra sim, just not calls. Worth the extra $1 if you can make use of it! Also note $5 data sims MAY be a possibility still on the $36 plan.

With the data glitch, had Optus do the same with my original transfer (from $35 data plan to $36 mobile plan), ended up with 20GB for a bit at no extra cost… Fixes its self after a bit.

        • @dyl:

Yes but not a sim i can just lend to friends and family to use when the visit from overseas

Plus you can reconstract at any time to another sim only or a phone plan so even if data price does crash (unlikely) then thats all good

        • +1

@digitalane: wasn't aware you can recontract, that's neat!

        • @dyl: I've heard rumours(? - I can't substantiate these claims) that if you go over your actual allocated 10GB, even if you are currently allowed 20GB, they will charge you the $10 per additional GB over your 10GB… so best not to abuse it, just in case.

  • +2

Ugh! being on contract really kills it for me. i cancelled my contract with optus a couple of months ago…

  • Is the EPL included in data cap?

    • +6

EPL stream is unmetered so won't chew into your 10GB.

  • +2

I can't see anywhere to place the student discount code, does anyone see where to enter it for this offer?

    • Get the code on UNIDAYS

      • Yeah but where does the code go? No place for it on the checkout screen.

        • I ended up getting it applied by asking via Live chat

        • +1

          @AzzaD: Just did it cheers!

  • So tempted. If only this was a month to month plan. As of right now the Virgin Mobile deal looks to be better https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254194

    • Yeah it might be, but the Optus one is better if you want more than 1 plan with data sharing. And better again if you have optus home broadband and get a $20 plan discount.

      • Theyve upped it from $10 discount for the bundle? That's a bonus.

        • +1

If you are on a new mobile and new internet plan yeah it's $20 now. I changed to this phone plan but kept my old internet because it is better, so I still get a $10 discount.

      • Or/and if you want the EPL streaming.

  • Is this available to existing customers? I'm on $60/month with 5gb, combined with mobile broadband 10gb. I'm off contract and this looks like a much better deal! How would I go about getting onto this, could I transfer or would I have to cancel my existing service first?

    • Yes i was exciting on a month to month and switched across

    • just did it all through online chat

      • Me too - just use online chat, it's super easy.

  • +1

note however that this new version of the plan doesnt come with data sharing SIMs. pretty pointless IMO (im on the older 10gb plan and would struggle to use any of the data just on my phone - use data share sims with my laptop and tablet).

    • I'm on the older plans and they no longer off the sims, that was one of the selling points. Very pissed.

      • If you are on the older plan you can still get one, instructions here:
        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2515156&…

      • I just went to the optus store in Northcote and got one added for $5. If you're on the old plan you can definitely still do it.

        • Went into browns plains and they flat out refused. Might give the whirlpool way a try. I don't understand why I've been negged. Massive thread of heaps of angry people on the old plan jumping through hoops go get the $5 sim.

  • +1

I called up the call centre to take my partners and my numbers across from TPG for this deal earlier in the year and they gave us both an extra $10 credit per month for the whole 12 months! Just asked them to sweeten the deal and they did. I may have just gotten lucky though…

    • No that was a deal Optus offered to anyone moving across from TPG to Optus, it was to do with when TPG were moving their customers away from Optus to Vodafone, if you switched to Optus direct the deal was $10 off per month for 12 months.

(I managed to get the deal at the time for me and Mrs Tex without being TPG customers previously either :) )

      • The guy I chatted with Optus is not giving any further discount to move my 2 mobile service from Vodafone.
        Any tips….

  • +3

Would definitely go for this if Optus wasn't atrocious in coverage/speeds where I live. Great Deal.

  • +2

For all those that got a 10gb mobile Internet for $35 and thought that was a bargain.

  • Seems similar to the deal for Uber partners (https://offer.optus.com.au/uberdrivers/). And most competitive for 10 GB of data.

Rather than offering unlimited calls like they all do now for a few dollars more I wish the resellers would bring back the $10.99 plans…

  • $10 discount if you have Internet.

    • +3

$10 discount no longer offered. Optus rep recently told me I could get $20 discount if I had mobile and broadband. However, to get that I would have to re-contract broadband. Equivalent broadband plan that I currently pay $90 for is now $140! So even with discount it's way more expensive. No deal.

      • Oh okay, I'm on the same broadband $90 plan lucky as I got the Samsung tablet and fetch included. Looks like We got the $10 discount just in time.

  • Thanks for posting. Just reminded me to pay my bill. Optus seem very generous. 3 bills received so far. Only 2 required payment and they never charged for any of the data sims. Total charge per month is $26.98 with 2 combined discounts.

  • Just 'upgraded' my plan. $36 with unidays discount =)

    Cheers!

    • How did you manage to type in the code? I cant seem to find where to type it

  • I signed up to this plan when it was last posted and for the first 3 months Optus stuffed up the billing giving me 2 lots of the $30 discount ($20 + $10 bundle) each month. They ended up fixing the glitch recently, was good while it lasted :)

  • Have a look at Jeenee.org.au. Same deal with no contract and still on the Optus network!

    • Just took a look - says it's $45 for 10GB

  • I have unidays and i got a code but there's no spot in the online checkout process for new customers to add the code? am i missing something? did you guys have to call up or go in store instead?

    • Yeah would also like to know this.

      • +3

        Live chat with them =)

      • sletts is right, I found it impossible to sign up online. Did it via chat and even then they made a meal of it (split into 2 accounts instead of a single pool, configured for paper bills that they then charged me $2/month for). I did get the unidays discount for my eligible daughter.

        • Yep, did it through live chat too. All good now! They seem to have reset my data after 3 days for some reason though. Not complaining :)

  • Been on this deal for a few months now (when it was posted here). Great value and good coverage in my area (the Illawarra), except for a few places (reception seems to be poor when in the shopping centres around here for some reason).

  • Got it last time with unidays + broadband discount. Anyone know if I can use same unidays code again for a new plan !?

  • +1

Any UNIDAY codes I can use for this? Thanks heaps partners!

  • Just checked with Telstra to see if they can match this deal or offer a similar deal. No luck. Looks like I will be going with Optus. They had me at free EPL.

  • hmmm they wouldnt offer it for me as i wasnt a 'targeted' person….

    • Try again, it is offered to anyone as.part of the onebigswitch campaign (free to sign up)

      • thanks mate, i'll give it a whirl

      • Hey dude I gave it a go. Signed up and quoted what the page said on One Big Switch and it worked. Thanks for the tip dude

Virgin Mobile is better value @ 12GB for $40 with free modem.
    http://www.virginmobile.com.au/mobile-broadband-plans/

    • +4

This is not mobile broadband, it includes calls/Txt ;)

      • -1

It is mobile broadband…look at the heading and click on the 12GB plan. Does not include calls and text. I have been using it for over 12 months.

        http://www.virginmobile.com.au/Global/virgin-mobile/static/p…

        • +1

You're trying to compare a mobile broadband plan to this deal which is for mobile phone plan.

        • -1

I was comparing to the mobile broadband deal in the One Switch offer….$35 for 1OGB

        • @gar519:

Ahh, I didn't even mention that in the original post as I knew of the Virgin offer.

  • Good deal if you're a student.

12 month contacts are nor that bad if you think about it.

I was on an old m2m plan for 50 bucks and get 8gb now on a12 month plan I'm on 11gb for the same dosh.

  • Where do you apply the unidays code?

  • Just confirming because I can't read it anywhere, this DOES NOT have an option to include a data SIM? Thanks.

    • +1

Yea does not include $5 data sim. Even the old plans I'm struggling to get the $5 data sim. Nice bait and switch by optus. However I am only paying $24 for this plan after all the discounts which I am very happy with.

      • That is a bummer.

      • Can you please tell us more…
? How did you get it down so low?

        • 10% off $60 for student coupon.
          $20 off online order.
          $10 off bundled plan.

          $60 - $6, - $20, - $10 = $24.

        • @R3XNebular: wouldn't it be 10% off $40 and not $60? & the $10 bundled plan is for broadband?

        • @lordra:

That's what I thought but others also got 10% of $60, was a weird glitch maybe on the check out screen. Ive had the plan for about 3 months. First month was charged incorrectly but all subsequent months is $24

        • @R3XNebular: Righto, all i could get it for was $36pm. I don't get the BB discount as my old man get the deal. So all good I suppose.

        • @lordra: Optus vs Amaysim? Asim has the same plan minus the data, with 1.5gb for 25 bucks. Is Amaysim better for calls vs this? I use more calls than data.

        • @lordra:
If you dont use all the data always go with the cheapest. I chew through my internet always reaching 8-9gb at the end.

  • I'm on the Virgin $40 10gb plan. Before I switch to Optarse (Only for the EPL action) is there anything I should be aware off other than Virgin's rollover data/intl calls? Any other advantages of staying on Virgin instead of Optus?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233199

    • Just the rollover/international, and unlike that Virgin offer this is a 12month contract.

  • +2

If only the NBA was steamed for free and not just the EPL.

    • +3

      But the season just finished.

  • Damn it. I got last week the 6+2gb plan/12 months for the same price….

    • +1

Same boat. Might call up and see if they can do anything.

    • +1

Yo. i signed up to $40 and 8gb earlier that day, and then found this deal. went on chat and said i was part of One Big Switch, and they updated my contract, Good luck!

  • is this epl able to be chromecasted from phone to tv?

    • Could always mirror the screen to Chromecast

      • is this the chromecast app? thanks

        • Yes

  • Optus still doesn't offer Visual Voicemail ?? Can anyone please confirm.

I have this plan but in an android phone. Thinking of switching wife's number to this and she has an iPhone.
