  • i clicked the link but tl:dr

just say i pay $129 right… how much data do i get and when does it expire?

  • Seems like a good deal (except for the Telstra branding, I hate that).

    • Try to think of it as an elitist "status symbol" - given (a) it is still the only high quality national wireless broadband and (b) it is way over-priced!

  • $100 recharge of what?

    • $100 Telstra Prepaid recharge, I assume you could use it with another Telstra service if you wish.

The Telstra Prepaid Phone/Prepaid Broadband voucher's are the same and can be used for either service.

      Bananas. What do you think?

Do you also need a lollypop lady to cross the street?

      • +1

Sounds like a good offer - how many recharge of the bananas do you get?

  • $100 = 6GB, 30 days expiry.

I actually think this is a pretty crap deal.

    is better

Though it's a great deal for people who require the coverage of Telstra… backpackers, non city folk, people needing 3G data for work with the best reliability, etc. :) I'd usually hesitate to promote Telstra, but they do the best network and you pay accordingly.

      • yeah its an extra 50cents per mb (or something?) for 3 roaming on 3g network…went in and asked yesterday, as were going bush for a month…

    • davo we need to compare apples with apples :P

    • Yes you are right. $100 with 30 days and stuck with telstra locked modem. It is crap.

      • Don't quote me but unless circumstances have changed Telstra will unlock these for free in their stores, I have had a non turbo modem unlock code printed the day I bought it and had not activated the sim.

        • If we can't quote you on it then don't say it. The link clearly shows:

          Network unlocking fee applies.

That's the only official information that should be relied upon.

      • dc-unlocker works.

Note that you can use Telstra post-paid sims even without unlocking.

        • I have just got one today… Got it working on my postpaid sim…Thanks

    • Three's deal is a great one, if you can get service/reliable coverage.

I bought that E1756 modem (not the 12gb deal) and I couldn't even use their included 200mb of data and I am less than 1km from the tower. They ended up giving me the unlock code free of charge.

  • hey c'mon this is a great deal for those wanting pre-paid users when compared to their standard offer of $149 ($129 cheapest in a recent post here).

in comparison to their latest post-paid offer, though, it sux big time.. cuz you can get 6GB for as little as $59.95/month

see my post, $20 more and you get 6gb more….

      • Again it all depends on what you want it for. As some have said once you get out of metro and larger regional areas NextG shines, heck even in metro areas it's better. I my place both Optus and Vodafone are hopeless in evenings with signal strength very low indoors, go outside and it's fine. Throw on the Telstra card I happily download at 600-800 KB/sec.

These modems can be unlocked for $20.

        • Anyone know where to find specs on this modem? i.e. Is this a HSPA Quad-band or tri-band? How do we find out what other frequencies it can connect at HSPA speeds? Also max speed 7.2 or higher?

          • @Charlotta: WCDMA 850/2100 MHz (USB 301)

            EDGE/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

  • I didn't think this deal would be for everyone but I have never seen such a good deal on this device, yes their prices are expensive however the coverage/network is superior to all others. I have a Exetel, Virgin and Telstra prepaid service and all are used for different situations :)

  • What's stopping someone from using the $100 recharge card for 5 months of $20?
    http://www.telstra.com.au/bigpond_internet/rates.html

    • you know thats a pretty good point if the post shop will do it… although with 520 you only get 2256MB of data (approx 1.3GB) as opposed to the 6GB, (though its only 1 months as you pointed out)

something like 2*$50 might be good though…2 gig per month for 2 months…

shame you cant use these for voice calls though as well… in the details of there wireless broadband pricing guide it says

" for data and sms only, voice calls are barred except 000 emergency calls.

also of note… uploads and downloads are counted in your data rate…
man the more i look into this the worse it gets, its just a shame that telstra think they can charge that much of a premium,(and they can i guess) bad business to have someone over a barrel and force yourself onto them as they are the only supplier….

I remember when telstra told us 1 dollar for five minutes was great value!

      • you can use such devices for voice calls? :o how!??

        • i ended up grabbing one, said you CANT use it for voice calls…. voice calls are barred…

only way would be to put the sim in a different phone…

other than that its easy enough to use skype so you could use it, but you'd just be paying data rates…
