ouch, only 120gb ssd, enjoy the 2 games!

Extra $50 for double, seems worth it.

Yeah isn't it insane how much space games take up now.
With Metabox laptops you can spec them to suit your needs, so you can increase the SSD size or even add a 1TB or 2TB 2.5" mechanical hard drive as well.
Just click on the web-link and you'll see the customise menus on the right of page as you scroll down.
      Cheers

  • Any chance u can put up a deal on one of the metabox primes? eg P670RG-G

    • Unfortunately it's just on the N170RD at the moment.
Send me a PM and I'll see what I can do :)

Really tempting, would need it mostly for work now confused if I should pick this or wait for MBP to come around 2100 (like last kogan deal).

  • All these new last minute laptop offers point to one thing. Retailers need to get their offers in earlier and buyers need to be more patient.

In my experience Metabox are usually overpriced compared to an equivalent Asus ROG laptop.

But credit where due, on this occasion this is a nicely priced option with a small SSD and bonus RAM. If you happen to already have Windows you can save some money.

    Good deal.

    • Do you mean local pricing or including purchasing (and importing) laptops from overseas?

I don't think I've ever heard this been said for local stock, I cant think of any laptop in the gaming category (960m,970m,980m) which is even priced remotely similarly for the same specs?

Curious since I want to buy a laptop soon.

      • Something like this for $1399 after 20% off would be a nice option. Get the same specs as this, but with a 1TB HDD instead of the 120GB SSD (not great), but also Windows (costs ~$140 on its own), and a Wireless-AC capable card. Also get DDR4 if that matters.

There's also this for ~$1440 if you want something a bit sleeker. Comes with a 4GB GTX960 as opposed to the 2GB of this deal and the ROG (not that the card will be able to address the full amount).

An extra 8GB RAM will only set you back ~$40.

EDIT: Just realised the model in this post is a 17.3", so consider that when reading my comment. Oops.

Yeah we had a few 15.6" deals recently as well as 14" ones, so mixing it up to help out the 17" gamers this time around.

    Hi Rep,

I custom built what i want and compared to
    http://www.metabox.com.au/store/b185/Metabox-Alpha-N170RD-La…

then the result is that you're cheaper by $26.

I was hoping for bigger savings.

    • Hi Artxty,
What were the specs that you wanted?
The deal saves you $59 with the free 120GB SSD and extra 8GB RAM.
We also offer free shipping saving a further $30 as well, So $89 all up.

Recently bought a Metabox from Kong and a few days after there was a deal for the same model! Contacted Kris to see if there was anything he could do for an OzBargainer and got a partial refund. Very happy with Kong's customer service and after sales care.

But wait, what about the dell laptop with a GTX 950 for $2500 ???
Oh, that's why I neg'd the dell and posi'd this.

  • The form factor on clevos are nice; the up and down arrows have never changed, its grat external build but but internally theres always a but especially on "cough" custom builds.

Big problem with this laptop, its 2gig gpu vram, its internal meaning it will not even last the year (if clevo, offered metabox the option for customers to truely offer service they'd allow you to choose 960m 2gig, 960m 4gig, 970m 6gig, 980m 8gig, on a 17'inch, or 15'6 inch ect but no they do not given all their shells are the same. Screw custom laptops, even hearing the terms alien.)so your better of with the 970m 6gig (if your into metabox, or asus, or fk all, then clevos have the BEST external interface) it will last you until 2021, and if the gpu dies in cad, or design work use the intel hd gpu for what ever.

Overall if your buying a laptop wait til the 1080m arrives after the siggrith convention, or late july so greeday ass nv can make more money.

A 1080m is 2 960's slapped together in one single cheap with 8 gig of vram, enough to model, and do vfx. (non comparable to a gtx version as its pure 1080.)

Eitherway, the prices good (if your american, at $1300, would be worse of if it didn't offer 2 year warranty; given its refurbished>>reconstituted orange juice.

Drr3,fine, ddr4 and ssd are overated, use a 2.5 hdd, or shdd. either way you can change them when ever towards a ssd later on.

You can buy a second hand alienware for $1000 of ebay, and you can swap out the gpu housed inside alienware a 980m for $500,you must install it your self, no soldering. (intel cpus are all the same, 4700hq, 6700 they last well over 10 years. the gpu is the most important thing, it does not max 5 years or way less.)

  • would anyone recommend using a fake windows on this laptop?

  • What happened to the 13 inch series? I'm on a look out for a new laptop, but it seems like the W230SS was the last of that line, and non of the clevo reseller (Kong, Affordable Laptop and Fraglab) carry them anymore.

    • Yes that model is end of life. Replaced with the more powerful P640RE now.

  • Thanks Kris, ordered one for my partner should arrive right on time for her birthday.

    • Awesome, thanks :)
I'll send you an order email on Monday.
