  • Does this come with a lifetime warranty? All the cheap brushes I buy or are given to me fall apart rather quickly.

    • Unfortunately not, that being said, the cheaper brushes use a pretty terrible glue that isn't very heat resistant. They fall out of their handles or the knot comes undone pretty quick. Once you pass the $50 threshold, you start to see some improvements. This is originally a $75 brush and quality is superb. I have one in my collection ( I test most products before selling them so I can offer advice) and haven't had issues with it over the last 3 months. That said, it doesn't get daily use as I use other brushes as well.

If you find a lot of your brushes are failing, make sure you are not exposing them to boiling water or anything past 75 degrees. At this temperature the glue becomes a bit more vulnerable and boiling water isn't necessary so there's no benefit.

What is your post shave routine with them?
You may find it's because they're cheap, or due to inappropriate care.

For example, I squeeze the knot of excess water after thoroughly rinsing all soap residue out.
Then give it a good wrist flick to flick more water off, then lightly stroke it up and down the length of a towel to remove pretty much what's left.
After this, I give it a light comb to remove any knots or clumped hairs and leave it on a north facing window sill to finish drying.
I rotate between several brushes, so it's usually a few days minimum before I return to the same brush.

I find this, combined with reducing heat and ensuring if you soak the brush the handle is not in the water at all has greatly improved their performance.

I hope it's helpful to you as well.

^^^ This is why I became a hipster.

        • Tell me more…
In particular your beard cleaning and grooming routine!

        • +1

I'm more ghetto than Portland hipster so I don't have a beard maintenance regime as such. I often get confused as homeless if that helps set the picture.

        • @TightBottom:
Am still confused why you're on a thread about traditional shaving products if you sport unkempt facial hair.
          Unleas you're curious…

Maybe an intro pack is warranted, to reform lost hipsters?

  • Is this brush a Silver Tip, implying it's natural hair?
    Or synthetic?

A good price if it's natural hair and about average for synthetic.

    BTW, where are you based?

    • Utilizing the highest grade synthetic fibers

Friggin American spelling as well. Uggggggggh

      • +1

        Fixed that :)

    • As per the description: Utilizing the highest grade synthetic fibers

This is the Fine Badger Version if you prefer.

If you're interested in buying (Or anyone), I'll happily create a code for it and bring it down to $68.

  • Admittedly Silver Tip was an Odd name for MUHLE to give this brush. Synthetic actually. But not nasty synthetic, very good quality synthetic, one of the few synthetics where the differences aren't actually obvious, there are plenty of inferior badger brushes out there that fail in comparison.

I've compared the prices alongside my competitors and the price is significantly cheaper.

    Based in Sydney, NSW

    • there are plenty of inferior badger brushes out there that fail

My tired eyes failed me for a moment

      • +1

Well, I won't mention brands, but some cheaper brushes that are "badger" really are poor quality if they are even badger at all… Muhle, Edwin, Merkur etc don't really have any inferior badger brushes because they use the good stuff.

Like anything, there are degrees of quality to any material.

Some synthetic's are appalling and are almost intolerable to use. Others on the better end are fantastic durable brushes.

    • Do you offer pick up for those here that are in Sydney?

      • Unfortunately not. Online retail only at the moment. Though hoping to change that within the next 2 years 😀

  • +1

Also, if anyone has a look around the store and has any suggestions of items you would like to see on sale, feel free to let me know.

    • +2

I suggest an ozbargain exclusive code to apply at checkout to keep everyone happy. May I suggest SHAVEDBOTTOM

    • I have a Merkur HD (34C) but am on the lookout for a more aggressive shave. Got anything you could put on sale that would fit the bill?

      • Merkur R41

      • Merkur 34C is an excellent choice! However, for a close shave the Muhle R41 or R41 Grande will be your friend. They'be both got the same level of aggression. Though the Grande has a larger weighted handle.

R41 is an open comb and gives a really close shave.

    • What about this for $50 shipped? I've been looking for a larger open comb DE for a while now after starting on a basic Edwin a couple of years ago. Also, any plans to sell blades (unless I'm blind and can't see them on your site)?

      • +1

If you really want it, I can make up a code for you!

      • +1

Couldn't go as low as $50 because there is no margin after free shipping.

However, $55 is fine and an excellent deal considering competitor prices.

You can use R4155DISCOUNT at the checkout to claim it. Valid till Monday.

  • Since when is a taclon brush worth over $50?? You can get squirrel / goat for that price.

You can tell this brush is not densley packed which means you'll use 10x more product.

I recommend everyone to get the Hakuhodo Botan Bake. It will be the best softest brush you ever spend your money on. Made with 100% goat hair.

  • +1

It's badger hair or bust for me

    • The brush is badger hair.

      • +2

It was changed. Originally it was a synthetic brush. OP changed it to badger after my comment

  • +3

Due to the synthetic being quite unpopular, I have changed this to a Badger brush. This brush is Fine Badger hair and not synthetic.

Increased it to 25% to make amends.

    • +1

I'll plus vote now it's a better brush and deal.

    • Nothing wrong with 4th generation synthetic brushes.
I have them in Simpsons, Plisson and Edwin Jagger.

      • +1

I agree, the quality is there. Great brushes. But the freback from the people wasn't great. Understandably I think they've been exposed to too many old style or
Cheaper synthetics which were terrible. But these new ones are all round fantastic. Wouldn't stock them if there weren'tz

  • I'm confused - this brush assists when shaving a badger?

    • +5

Only fine good looking badgers. None of those skanky ones.

    • Beaver brushes will be in next deal?

  • I looked at Badger brushes when i was getting into DE shaving but found they weren't much better than boar brushes after a few months use. Once the boar bristles split didn't notice a lot of difference. My brush has been going strong for around 3 years now with no issues at all. Although you can halve that as only shave every couple of days.

Yes I know the purists will be up in arms but it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to get into DE shaving

    • +1

What price point did you look to?
A Simpsons Polo 10 or a 30mm knot Shavemac probably would demonstrate their virtues, over boar.
For the record, I utilise both :)

  • how good are the blue beard shaving cream and pre shave oil? are these also discounted ?

    • They're not discounted as a part of this deal. But the prices are still marked down as the product line is still new.

Give some a try, it's pretty good. I've been getting good feedback on them.

  • +1

I just bit the bullet…this will be my first shaving brush.

    • Congrats! you'll love it. Nothing like a great shaving brush!

  • +1

R41 Grande safety Razor also discounted down to $55. Valid till monday. Use discount code R4155DISCOUNT at the checkout.

    https://www.shaverave.com.au/collections/muhle/products/muhl…

    • Thanks. Will order one.

  • +1

Do you have starter pack for newbs? Need instructions and decent quality

    • That's a really good idea. I should look into that. Thanks for the suggestion.

I can write you up a starter pack.

Buy the discounted r41 grande if you want a great cheap razor. However, if you are of a nervous complexion, maybe the r89 is better suited (you can find that under the MUHLE page)

If you're not sure how much to invest. Look into the cheaper brushes from MUHLE and Bluebeards also on the site.

For shaving cream, I would recommend the MUHLE aloe Vera shaving cream. Good performer and easy to use.

I thought hipsters had beards? Are they changing they're minds?

    • +1

Traditional shaving has been here long before hipsters and it will be here long after. Pretty sure the trend setters went back to their mass produced supermarket razor the moment the trend slowed down.

Traditional shaving seems to attract the budget conscious and the craft focus. Some do it for money, some do it to learn a craft and enjoy the experience.

Same way I people stop drinking instant coffee after trying barista made coffee. I'm highly driven by experience. Especially something like shaving which you have to do… It's incredibly boring. But these tools and processes make it enjoyable. And who doesn't want do enjoy their life!

    • I was wondering if I could place an order, but place it on hold until the blades came back in stock?
    • if you had any opinions on this kind of package versus this offer: menzbiz standard wetshaving kit
    • Hi there,

Sure, sounds like a great kit collection. I've allowed purchase of both bluebeards and Muhle blades. They will be back in stock on Tuesday. So I'll just delay the shipping until then.

Well, the mens biz kit is pretty awesome to be honest. Obviously the R41 Grande I'm selling is a more expensive razor (that is cheaper than the 34C with this discount), so that's a pretty good perk. The rest of the included products look great. We're offering different shaving creams although you'll be seeing Proraso on my site within the month. The included brush is their home brand so I can't comment on the quality of it. Pretty evenly matched in terms of quality. You can't go wrong with either, though with the discounts on offer this weekend, mine is pretty good value considering you're getting two high prices items significantly reduced.
