Facebook post has

Mainly Taxi's across Australia atm- Regarding Sydney they also got, ride sharing drivers little Cheaper than Uber no x2.2 x1.8 scary surge pricing, Aussie owned company trying to take on the American Giant $5 back every trip not bad.

P.S: I know they dont have as many drivers as Uber but hey… I always load the gocatch up first and try for a couple minutes. If i cant get a driver in a couple minutes I load up Uber anyways…

  $5 rebate looks good and maybe it's just been me, but I've had a few dodgy experiences with goCatch before- drivers refusing to accept jobs until you give them a generous tip, drivers even refusing to use the app even after you've booked through it and insisting cash. It does seem to be just a marginal improvement over using traditional taxis.

    Is that with taxis? I think this deal refers to the GoCar carshare (UberX equivalent). I think all transactions all through the app for that.

    Generous tip? Theres no button for that… Insisting cash? jeez u musta had a really bad driver lol, but you cant demon the whole industry on one bad rive… I disagree regarding 'marginal improvement'.'ride sharing apps are a massive improvement to traditional taxis! Almost half the price than a traditional taxi's without the old 10% credit card surcharge the double toll sting for bridge even though one way is free… The review and rating system all comes in play which has never been heard of before… the no talking on the phone while driving and ignoring you… the old I wonder where is he when i rang up 20 minute ago on taxi computer prompt number lol

    anyways everyone is entitled to their own opinions =D

      Apologies, it does seem I have misread the title- I was referring to goCatch which is a different booking app for taxis to goCar (which also is the parent company of goCar).

      goCar does look like an interesting alternative, but I'll reserve judgement until I've been on a trip.

      I've had at least 2 GoCatch booked taxi rides (out of a dozen or so) who did not want me to pay through the app. I think it's a common enough problem in Sydney. And there's a pretty obvious 'tip' section in the app you get to see every time you're booking a taxi. Other than that, I love the app as it results in a more transparent pick up process.

  Except you can still easily find an Uber even in 'peak' times without the surge pricing just by walking a bit. With goCatch they have their set 'off peak' and 'peak' period no matter where you are (which is about 1.53x pricing higher than the 'off peak' period).

  You should also put in the title that this is a Sydney only offer, as goCatch isn't available anywhere else from what I can see.

    Yeah GoCar is only cheaper if Uber is surging above 1.5. Last few times Uber has been surging above 1.5 I have attempted to get a GoCar but none were available, so ended up using Uber anyway.

      Are you sure? I can't find any mention of them operating outside of Sydney at all

      We have launched in Sydney, initially in the Sydney CBD, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, and Lower North Shore.

        You can use it to book taxis anywhere in Aus. They also have a ride sharing function called GoCar (UberX equivalent)but that is only in Sydney. I believe the $5 off works for either the taxi booking or GoCar.

        @carkell: Strange that they make absolutely no mention of that at all on their website.. It only says about Sydney (and doesn't differentiate between the ridesharing and taxi part of the service. Weird.

        @Porthos: This is the GoCatch part of the webiste I think you were looking at the GoCar section. I agree it is poorly laid out and is not clear on the difference. Something they really need to work on if they want to genuinely compete with Uber.

        @carkell: Yeah it is incredibly poorly laid out. They should have a completely different section for the information on the goCatch and the goCar services, but they seem to go between the two. I guess the app would work better in differentiating between them as they're obviously different apps.

        The $5 rebate offer is only valid on GoCar rideshare trips in Sydney. This means that you will only receive the $5 rebate if you take a GoCar. You will not receive a $5 rebate if you take a taxi via the GoCatch app. Hope this clarifies the issue for you.

  So should there be [SYD] in the title then if it only works for GoCar which is only available in Sydney. If it's also available with GoCatch taxis then I think the title needs to be adjusted to say that too.
