      ahaha, that photo isn't brain.
It's offal that comes from the thigh piece.
technically it's meant to be cleaned out before the breading process, no one ever did it when i worked there in my teens.

    • So what's the problem if it's really brain? Brain is very yummy, savoury and delicious.

  • +3

    This is so random.
I signed up though haha, thanks for posting!

  • +2

wow, i dont know how my local store will manage, when ever i am at the register ordering something i can look in and see an absolutely filthy floor.
its like they dont even have rubbish bins and just throw everything on the floor.

    • +1

most likely hire extra staff just for the day.

    • +6

Why not book a tour and have a look by yourself. Remember you are more than welcome to ask questions during the tour.

In the past tour I did ask how they reply to the rumor that they have chicken with 7 wings and 5 breasts without head instead of tubs, they did reply with showing me how their chicken come in and clear it out.

We had a managing consultant on that day of the tour and turn out it is alright.

  • +4

Annual free KFC lunch. Thanks OP :)

  • -8

Less than half the story. What about the chicken farm and slaughterhouse tour?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6BBc6Hrr3E

    • +15

Does it come with a free Original Recipe or Zinger burger with a regular chips and drink?
      if not, no deal!

    • +6

KFC don't run that process. They acquire their chickens from Baida, Ingham (at least when I worked there) and other top chicken suppliers in the country. Holding KFC accountable for that practice would be like holding Coles and Woolies accountable for their meat sourcing as well.
I never i understood why KFC get so much hate yet supermarkets get off so easily…

      • -2

That second bit's true - whoever sells animal products, large or small, organic or grass-fed or whatever other feel-good label they make up, is involved in the trade of suffering and killing. KFC is not the problem - consumers are the problem.

        • +4

is involved in the trade of suffering and killing.

          You forgot deliciousness!

        • -3

@Scrooge McDuck: It's heartening to see your psychological compensation rather than genuine apathy.

        • +5

@thevofa: Being at the top of the food chain is good for the palette

      • having said that, Coles and Wollies now control the meat sourcing as well, so it IS probably fair to hold them accountable for the animal treatment as well.

        • +1

True, so KFC less accountable and super markets more accountable.

        • Coles and Woolworths have enforced the RSPCA accreditation for poultry which made Ingham and Baida (Steggles) (which are KFC's major suppliers) seek accreditation including modifications for their growers/facilities.

An article here on what RSPCA accreditation is (different arguments as to its effectiveness) but it is some sort of standard and my understanding is that it was not a walk in the park to obtain initial compliance.

    Did someone say OzBargain Meetup?

  • +2

Sorry, Open Kitchens are not available near your area. Maybe the cleaning crew has not yet reached Perth

    • i can see sessions available at ellenbrook and rockingham

  • +1

Oh yes I went last year was great complain free food so booked again for this year.
Finally got the closest store. I had to drive 25 minutes last time!!!

    • -4

So you spent more money on petrol than what the meal was worth, haha.

      • +2

More or less bout the same.
My car is only a 1.6 so very economical

  • +1

KFC Tour Guide: So that's the end of our tour, where did you guys hear about our this?

    • +1

      "Ahh… Facebook?"

  • +2

Asquith KFC booked in. Told the gf i'm bringing an SLR camera and taking photos during the tour, I can tell she is looking forward to it..

    • +2

"Can I take photos or videos on the tour?
As part of our occupational health and safety standards, electronic devices such as phones and cameras cannot be used during the tour."

  • +3

I registered and ticked the box to bring a guest.
Received email did not mention about the guest. Anyone has idea?

    • +6

sneak them in under your coat

    • +2

      pose as conjoined twins?

  • +2

What a fun way to spend a Saturday morning!

10.30AM is a bit earlier than I'd normally tuck in to a Zinger burger, but can't complain about FREE

    • +3

Your tour will be around 30 to 45 mins therefore it will be around time for lunch, the early the better as the kitchen may get dirty in the later of the day

      • +5

It's a great idea for a first date. Taking your lady to see your favourite restaurant!

  • +1

Thanks I was lucky this time.

  • +1

Salamander Bay NSW 2315 KFC is not participating

  • +1

10:30AM is the start of their work day, the kitchen will be clean (ideally) and chicken fresh for good reviews with these tours. I know because I once waited for a KFC to open at 10:30AM..

    • +7

Must have been a top night out!

  • +5

Unfortunately children under the age of 16 cannot attend the tour for safety reasons.

Looks like the kids are staying home and just a romantic date for the wife and I

    • I booked it for the little one but looks like it is going to be a romantic date for me too.

    • What about all the kids who work there??

  • Missed out. But then I read you need long pants and closed shoes anyway.

    • +6

yeah I've only got singlets and thongs. Not worth buying the clothes just to attend this

      • +11

They don't want their existing customers turning up.

    • +2

      Such a deal-breaker lol

  • +2

Will the Colonel give me the restaurant chain at the end of the tour ? or do I need to be last man standing.

    • +2

The other fanatics will drop off on by one with each case providing a moral and song sung by delightfully obese helpers (the lumpy loompas).

  • -3

    Photos allowed?

  • +1

can i just get the free meal without the tour? lol ( kitchen's been prepared well, i knew it)

  • +1

sold out Victoria. shikes missed it again…

    • +1

When I looked up just now areas near me it showed Mentone wasn't booked out. Couldn't be bothered driving that far though

    • +1

Just got into my local in vic with a +1

  • +1

    Everywhere is booking closed… :(

  • +1

No booking available at all stores in SE Vic. Put myself on the wait list though.

  • +1

Went last time, it was good but tour was half empty . It seems like a lot of people register here but don't turn up. Such a shame.

    • +7

yeah there's always a few :( should be a refundable deposit when you book to put off the selfish idiots

  • See you guys there

    • +1

Not so, I just booked (Woy Woy)

  • +3

As someone who spent years as a cook at KFC, I have no idea how they are going to fill up 30 minutes with a tour. I'm fairly sure that was the length of my original training!

    • +4

i've done a few of these tours now. depending on how in-depth the manager is in describing the processes, as well as any demos they let you watch, they can fill out the 30 minutes quite easily. the last tour i did was over in about 18 minutes as hardly anyone asked questions.

      • +2

I picture them having everyone just stare at the fryer for its entire cycle and then walking you back out of the kitchen. :P

        • staring at the fryer, drooling uncontrollably lol

    • after the tour they'll know how to bread and fry chicken too.

  • I bet the Dog Swamp, WA store doesn't have this, every time I go through the drive thru the floor is covered from one end to the other of food, people trampling over it, bags all over the place. Its got to be one of the filthiest store I've ever seen. I even sent a photo once to complain and never heard back. They could care less.

    • they were participating during the last round of open kitchens

      • I just went there actually and the place is immaculate, so i guess they are after all.

    • +2

      *couldn't care less

  • There use to be a KFC just up the road from me but they closed down ages ago.
    Nothing near me.
The store finder isn't very good, no matter what suburb I put it keeps coming up with the stores near me.

    • -1

Must be less fat people where you live.

    • +4

Not a valid reason for a neg haha

      • -3

so a deal being non-existent is not a valid reason to neg?

Neg got revoked anyways because of too many downvotes.

        • +7

          "non-existent"?
other people got tickets. don't be a sook just because you were late to the party

        • -3

@tdw: isn't the point of the negative button to share your thoughts on a deal and it's value?

If someone else gets it good for them they should upvote. If the deal is not working or just restrictive, that should be a downvote unless it was clearly outlined in the title or body that it is for a particular state or region etc.

Not trying to be a sook, but what's the point of the negative button if you can't share your view on a deal.

        • +2

@hahaboy: the whole point of negative votes is to highlight a major issue with the retailer, the product or the price. Missing out on a bargain isn't a valid reason. You've been here 5 years; can't exactly plead ignorance

        • -2

@tdw: I did look up voting guidelines afterwards, and whilst you are right about how/when to down vote, it does seem a bit restrictive and authoritarian.

Yeh,been here a while, but never really had a deal I was interested in and felt deserved a down vote.

Most deals I pick up are good and I up vote accordingly.

  • Cool. I've never even heard of this in past years. Pakenham was taking bookings; just 10 minutes away.

  • +1

Does the guest get free meal as well after the tour?

    • +3

I believe so, everyone in the tour will receive a free meal

  • Is there any tours in WA? Search.function brings up nothing :(

    • there were 5 stores participating but all have been booked out now

      • There are some stores I just found in WA - Willetton, Innaloo, Thornlie, Harrisdale, Rockingham Beach. There might be more.

  • +1

For Brisbane people, I just had to cancel my booking for Browns Plains store so that is available. And I saw Acacia Ridge is still available for those interested. It's this Saturday!!

  • Went to the broadmeadows store but absolutely no one was present. Came back because I was too embarassed to do it alone. The staff did not ask me either when I entered the store.

    • +2

Should have done it for the free food.
I was only 1 at store for tour. Just needed to say you were there for tour. Manager was relieved as she was anxious of taking 5 people into small kitchen. Got 5 extra chicken pieces.
      Personal tours are better ;-)

    • too embarassed to do it alone

      aww, social anxiety?

i always walk up to the counter and say i'm here for the tour. the staff at the counter aren't going be asking every customer who walks in if they were there for the tour.

      • A bit of that and the fact the nothing in the store indicated that were doing tours today.

        • +1

all five tours i've been in, there were never any signs up about the tour.

  • +1

Finished my tour just 5mins ago >.>

    • +1

My one was pretty long as well. Pretty interesting though, and got to pick anything off the menu:)

      • +1

Although it was long it went quickly. Was just a mate and I at this store. Got the tour around, then shown in detail dunking, folding + 'patting' the chicken pieces with the flour. (Like in CookDaChook :P) Then it was our turn! After that it was the same with burger building, shown how it's done then we got to choose any burger and make it ourselves. Ready on a tray was our chips and drinks, out we went to eat and then we noticed the time. First time the store has done the tour, manager didn't know about it being only a 'half-hour' :D Interesting start to the day before some Pokemon hunting.

  • +1

Still finishing the free chicken pieces…
5 people booked (max allowed on tour), I was the only one to turn up. So personal tour.

Interesting tour - brought back memories of my student days, manager & I had great time & joked with staff.

Ate the 2 pieces with chips & drink at end of tour & was given 5 pieces to go :-)

  • +3

Great to hear you guys with positive experience.

    • +1

i always enjoy these tours. have done 5 of them now and i learn something new from each different store and their respective managers.

  • +1

Done that today. I and one other showed up. Was a nice tour. Got a free zinger meal. Yay!
