NUMATIC HVR200-12 Henry Vacuum Cleaner, £83.33 + £51.13 Postage (~AUD $241 Delivered) @ Amazon UK

Seem to be a good, cheap & reliable vacuum cleaner for me.

Bought it for ~$180 a few years ago, still running strong, good suction + hardly need to replace the dust bag!

Note: you will need to change the power plug to Australian.

  • Does it suck better than dyson?

    • I've only used a friend's Dyson for a few minutes but I think so. I got a Hetty Hoover around 9 years ago and it's never had a problem and the suction is still great. It's worth getting a reusable bag for them if you get one. I'd buy another Hoover like that if mine died.

Nobody's posted it yet, so fine I'll do it..

Best vacuum ever yes better than dyson they go for ever

    • +3

I had a dyson and sold that to buy the henry vacuum. I am so happy with this vacuum.

  • What's the dust filtration like?

  • It's just a well built old sucky machine….

    Built like wheel

We bought a Henry about six months ago, it's absolutely brilliant.

  • To change the power cord would you just order one standard off eBay?

Just go to Bunnings and grab one of these - https://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-10a-3-pin-black-electrical-p…

Disclaimer: Plug can only be changed by a qualified electrician ;)

      • Agreed. Should be done by a sparky. Ignore the following!

UK plugs are often screwed together, ready to remove/refit. Only flatblade screwdriver required.

Just got back from Ireland, with 2 more UK four socket powerboards. I grab 2 equiv from Bunnings, and swap plugs.

Visiting friends/family have 2x4 UK sockets for use here… And i have equiv in Ireland/UK/HongKong.

What a ridiculous country if I'm forced to pay a sparkey $100+ to change a plug. That's if you can get one out for a small job. Better off just getting a power adaptor.

        • @gimme: Any country worth living in takes electricity & people's lives seriously. Plumbing is also a licensed trade. Love to know who quoted you.

          Compliance is your choice.

What's ridiculous is criticising an country with no thought put into it.

        • @Utopian:

We've had this discussion before. In NZ you're allowed to do your own basic electrical work. Guess what, the fatality rate from electrical accidents is lower. So yea nah, over regulating doesn't imply safety. It's just nanny state rubbish.
Incidentally I'm allowed to do my own plumbing here if gas isn't involved.

        • @gimme: When did we discuss this/anything previously? Curious about the fatality stat, too.

Very interesting about NZ. Particularly with how joint at the hip we are, regs/standards etc.

Australia is a nanny state in so many ways, and those NZ rules sound great for the user… But i do think electricity, gas, potable water, sewage water etc are on a pedestal for good reason. Even then, still no shortage of trained, highly experienced idiots around. Potential for damage is extremely high.

          @Utopian:

It was in one of the 'masters' threads if I"m not mistaken (when they had the sale on powerpoints etc).

Speaking of highly experienced idiots - Some of the electrical work at my previous place was terrible. There was a lot of paperwork (certifications) for various installations which would give the average person a lot of confidence, however once you scratched the surface it looked like the sparky had spent more time filling out forms than doing the actual work!!

I'm all for getting the job done right and happy to engage a tradie for more complex and potentially dangerous jobs but I wouldn't be calling one everytime I need a powerpoint or a leaky tap done. They'll pretty much have to move in and take over my bank account lol.

A lot of the Australian regulations are simply targeted at the lowest common denominator. It's just an easy option for the govt to cover their backsides. It may solve a short term problem but as I said it creates a generation with no common sense or personal responsibility and 100% reliant on warning labels.

    • Or you could just keep a plug adapter permanently attached, that's what I do. Mine is similar to this $10 adapter:
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/jackson-usa-uk-japan-europe-trav…
      Probably available cheaper off Ebay.

  • I've got one of these, great little unit and super quiet, can use with or without the bags and it great for cleaning the car - has all the right attachments that can get in all the hard to reach places. I've tried dyson, Electrolux (choice recommended) and this one is better. only think I don't like is the handle - not used to it being so basic.

    • You're too late to the party. Grunge posted this already - see 2nd post above

  • Isn't this like the Bunnings $49 ones?

    • +1

Not sure if you're taking the piss.

The answer is no - these are the 'Eneloop' of vacuum cleaners. Better than Dyson and at a fraction of the price

  • I'm Henry the Vac I am. Henry the Vac I am, I am.

  • " hardly need to replace the dust bag! "

That's not really a recommendation imo.

  • +1

FYI these are the 620W version, the previous 1200W version made until recently is no longer produced due to new EU power consumption regulations.

I'll vouch for this brand of vacuum cleaner too. I have the commercial version of the Henry:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MUTUI0G/
It has a "skirt" around the base, a longer cord, and I think the bag area has a larger volume. Amazingly good suction, and it's the quietest vaccuum I've ever seen. You can actually hold a conversation while using it, without yelling! You do have to "speak up" a bit more than normal, it's not totally silent.

I got mine from TheHut.com almost exactly two years ago, on special, for 108.03GBP including shipping to AU (was charged AU$193.49 using 28degrees card, purchasing in GBP). I've just checked TheHut again, and now they won't ship to Australia for any of the Numatic vacuum cleaners, I tried adding them all to the cart. They only charged me 8.04GBP for shipping, it might have been a website mistake that let me buy two years ago.

    • Yep, same here!

The only thing missing on this vacuum cleaner is the on board tools holder! I am happy with the rest!

Anything less than 2400 Watts is unlikely to suck up dust mites

    • +1

Wattage is almost completely irrelevant when it comes to the performance of a vacuum cleaner. Wattage simply refers to a vacuum motor's power consumption and often doesn't correlate to the actual performance of the machine. The engineering of the filters, air paths and motor is much more significant. This is why the EU felt justified in introducing their recent power consumption regulations. They want to encourage manufacturers to decrease power consumption of their devices by improving their engineering techniques.

I have a Numatic cleaner like the one in this deal and find it fantastic in spite of the fact that it "only" has a 1200W motor. Apart from being a little heavy to move around, it is a really fantastic cleaner and I'm expecting that it will last for years to come.
