  • Sweet, was getting sick of those ads.
Did think you could remove them on ios.

Now you just need to remove ios!

      • Lol

        • @holyland: force releases? Just like android you choose whether you download and install new versions.

        • @Slo20: it is prompting you to upgrade in ios 9 every day. It's nagging you to upgrade until you give in

        • @holyland: oh that's why you jailbreak so you can remove those little annoyances.

        • @holyland:
Total misconception. Apps launch more slowly the first time after a new OS install only because they have to repopulate data that is normally cached. There are thousands of apple engineers who would literally walk off the job if Tim Cook or Steve had asked them to make a new release slow down older hardware on purpose.

Apple operates with a pretty lean team so it simply takes time to optimise new code for old hardware. That's why older devices often speed up again after subsequent updates.

Apple doesn't force updates on users, many users are happy to receive them and those that don't update still enjoy a fully functional device.

        • @Alphaeus: mate, you try to use safari on ipad 4 or iphone 4s and tells me it was that slow a few years ago. Things are way snappier on ios 6. They even say 7,8,9 are made for older devices just to trick you to install. Once installed, bam, may as well chuck it down the toilet.

Works using a fake VPN profie? How secure is it?

    • +3

It sends those sites that are blocked to the "dummy" vpn profile

"This is normal and expected behaviour. It doesn't mean that something is not working like it should. You can't connect to it, because there is no actual VPN server to connect to. If you can't do it, the apps and websites won't be able to it either - this will result in ads being blocked. Apps and websites will try to use this VPN profile only for domain names from the defined list. This also ensures that none of your traffic goes through any third party servers, so your privacy is fully respected."

      • For the pedantic….

It sends those sites that are blocked to the "dummy" vpn profile

Retrieval of resources from blocked sites is via "dummy" vpn profile.

    thanks

Weird.. says $2.99 for me.. not free. Do I need to VPN into the States to get the discount?

edit Ooops.. that link in the paragraph takes to the other paid product (weblock). The free product is Adblock by the same people. Whats the difference? confused

    • +2

Weblock uses a Wi-Fi proxy to block ads and only works on Wi-Fi, adblock uses a VPN to block add on mobile data and Wi-Fi.

"Blockr" also seems to be free for a limited time
    iTunes link: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/blockr-privacy-media-ad-bloc…
    Price history: http://appshopper.com/utilities/blockr-privacy-media-and-ad-…

Not sure if it is better or worse than Adblock. But since it is free, you could try both and decide for yourself.

    • Does it block Youtube ads?

      • Nope

        • Are you sure? It blocked one for me, I think.

  • +2

I installed it to block Pandora adds, uninstalled about 2 minutes later. crashes Pandora and kills performance of iPhone 5.

    • +1

same, un installed it 1 minute later. crappy app.

    • +4

It's not going to work on Pandora if you are talking audio.

Of course since the Pandora coders appear to be unable to code their way out of a paper bag if you pirate Pandora for free you get no ads, no silence where ads were meant to be, no region locking, music downloads and higher quality setting. So it's totes worth paying for ads, region locking and not being able to download.

That's right, the Pandora coders were so inept that they managed to make a 100% server based service that you can unlock using just the client :D

    • I had to uninstall it cos it crashes boom beach. Not sure if it will effect all other server based games. Even when I disabled the blocker it still had issues. Needs a whitelist at app level and website level to be useful.

  • Better then Weblock???

  • +1

There like no reviews for this, yet the description is worded like everyone has the app lol

Doesn't block youtube ads for me

  • Just tried it for a few minutes on my phone and this is my experience:
    Browsing seems a lot slower
Ads didn't get blocked on a number of sites
It creates a VPN profile (which is wierd)

    I'm sticking with 1 blocker.

    • Which do u use?

      • I use Blocker+ for Safari.

  • +3

This app is rated poorly compared to others on the App Store so I am surprised it has so many up votes here

    • +1

it's because people see free, and instantaneously upvote. The app doesn't even perform that great.

  • I'm a big fan of Cheerio. It blocks a lot of ads. It doesn't block ads within apps. Been using it for over a year. I'll give this one a go too.

What I've discovered is that these days there a lot more web sites that block my access because they've detected my ad blocker. To them I say "See ya later then".

Well, I use harsher words but this is a family website.

  • whats the best ad blocker for youtube on android devices ?

  • Love it, works smoothly, blocks ads in broswer as well as in app ads. Its been long time since not using WeBlock because that app has a huge problem and pain in the ass when Browsing. I'll see how this one goes in the couple few days.

    • Well, it does causes browsing problem with some websites. Made me to unblock it.

  • can this block adds on youtube app?

    • Doesn't seem so. I'm still getting them.

      • Yeah me too and that's the main thing that I wanted to block, if it doesn't have that feature them it's kind of pointless

    • Haven't tried on the official YouTube app but the ads are blocked on an alternative YouTube app, Tubex.

      • Its blocking all youtube ads except the one that you can cancel after 5 seconds

  • At last this one is compatible with my iPhone 5, thanks OP.

  • Does it protect your privacy from others using the internet on the same network?

  • Hi guys
I find this app to be good.

Its blocking nearly every ad for me.
The only ones i find that i am getting are the ones on youtube you can cancel after 5 seconds.

I was getting really sick of the 1 minute ads on twitch.tv app which had no way of cancelling them.

  • Not as good as Speed Me Up. It's always been free + it's system-wide.

Works for both iPhone & iPad. Nothing to install, follow the steps here:
    http://www.speedmeup.net/setup

    • That only works on WiFi.

  • wonder how does this compare with ABP Adblock Plus which is also free?

    • +1

It seems Adblock Plus is for Safari only

      • Apple has chosen to make content blocking unavailable to third party browsers on iOS.

      • thanks for the info.

  • Blocks the ads in ozbargain

    • Is there a whitelist option so you can support sites you like/trust?

    • What's the point when you don't buy anything from ads. That's kinnda pointless running them. Ads are as good as click on them.

  • What's the best ad blocker for youtube on iOS?

  • Didn't block ads in ozbargain if viewing link through Facebook then I signed in to comment and they were gone….

Doesn't work on gumtree, one of the most ad infested website.

    • +1

Ios gumtree app had no ads when i used it..

      • not on the app, but on the website version on ipad's browser, still flooded with text ads.

  • +1

kills alot of internet site access - had to remove it. Was trying to look up the fight details yesterday and i thought it was 1 site being down but turned out after trying about 10 sites they were all timing out.

had to remove the app to resolve the issue

  • Removed ..doesnt seem to be safe

  • still getting a tonne of ads
    … removed

  • bloody useless app. prevents every second website from actually loading at all.
