How Much Money Spent on Pokemon Go So Far??

Hey guys! I'm feeling a bit guilty, hence, i'm wondering..as subjected : "How Much Money Spent on Pokemon Go So Far??"

I myself spent $35 already!!!!

And subtopic: Money was spent mainly onto what? i.e Pokecoins into Poke Balls, Lure, Egg Incubator etc.

My $35 mostly on Poke Balls initially and recently Lucky eggs.

Cheers!

edit 26July2016: just burnt my phone due to long activity of Pokemon Go..therefore, i think i've spent $500+ :(

Poke balls? Why? they are free, right? Just spin spin spin…

      • +1

        Lol.

        • +3

Life is fair square and balance.
Sometimes you get up vote sometimes down vote.
          Nothing to worry.

        • @eisniwre:

That is very true my friend.

  • +84

None, Zero, nil. I haven't bothered to play that.

  • +16

Spend money on free to play games… no wai!!!

  • +23

Just ignore the in-game store and play the god damn game.

    • +1

But remember to get your free daily gym gold!

      • Daily gym gold?

        • +1

if you manager to occupy a agym with one of you pokemon, or 3 or 4 or 5, and then quickly go to your store, there is a shield icon in the top right that you can press on, and you get 10 gold coins per gym occupied by one of your pokemon.

        • Ah damn, there's no chance with my local gym. Pokemon hover around 1000CP

        • @Polde: The strategy is to find gyms in obscure locations, where no one ever visits.

        • @Karlos101: what if u claimed 1 gym already then u got 2, can u claim 10 more?

        • @Cataclysm: What you claim from the "Shield" is based on the number of gym you occupy at the point when you click on the 'Shield'.

        • @Cataclysm: no. The claim timer respawns every 20 hours. So try and get as many pokemon on a gym at the same time before claiming coins.

  • what do the lucky eggs do?
and how much of a difference is the lure compared to incense?

    • +2

Incense is for you only and can be dropped anywhere, a lure must be dropped at a 'Pokestop' and benefits everyone in the area :)

      • +1

Oh thats pretty cool, in terms of strength is there a difference?

        • +1

I'm not really too sure on that one sorry :)

        • i think lures are stronger, but lure and incense can stack

        • Subjectively it definitely feels like lures are stronger, but I don't have any actual proof.

      • +1

Oh… and Lucky eggs.. they double your experience bonus. Best to use them when evolving things, that way you get 2 x 500xp or 2 x 1000xp..

        • +1

oh nice, hahah thanks for the info!
i am sure reddit will have more info on the strengths between lures & incense!

        • for some strange reason when i evolved a new pokemon in my pokedex i don't think i got the 500 xp like if you had caught it in the wild for the first time? Might be a glitch? Does it give you 500 xp when evolving into a brand new pokemon?

        • +2

@SaberX: yes, it gives you xp whenever you are evolving… this is normally what i will do, go the a town with heaps of pokestops, and at least a gym, then use 1 lucky eggs : within that 30mins time frame i will use incense, lure module, stops at pokestops, catched some pokemons, evolve some, and gym fight (defeat em), if you're lucky with a lot of pokemons you can have gained heaps of xp. - well now my secret of being in level 20 is exposed!! :p

        • +4

          @0031nek:
          Easy lvls how to

Save all your evolves - only use them when you have a luck egg available (refrain from evolving that pokemon that you just got enough candy to do so)
Try to pool as many of the low level stuff as you can. Idealy enough cany and pokemon to evolve 5 of each of the commons (Pidgey, Rattata whatever is in your area)
For me Pidgey is my greatest friend to evolve. They only take 12 candy to evolve and return 1000xp for an evolve (2000xp in the lucky egg)
You only need to catch 3 Pidgeys to make enough to evolve one (3 for catpture and 1 for transfer)

If you manage to get say 7 Pidgeys, 2 Rattata and 1 Zubat ready to evolve then with a Lucky egg this nets you an instant 20,000xp (which is an instant level for some of the high teens)

ALSO i would set my incubators on the same type of egg at the same time and would activate my lucky egg just before they would hatch (1000xp on hatch -> 2000xp)

This method was how i stormed through the 10-20 levels and is what i am still doing to push through the 20's (you need a whole lot more xp each level in the 20's)

Main thing is save all your evolves - even the ones you really really want :)

        • @Pyrock: I think evolve is usually 500xp (so 1000 with lucky egg). Otherwise good advice, hoping to pop 3 incubators (2x 5k, 1x10k) plus ~9 evolves later today with a lucky egg.

        • Aww yeah, I've got 250 doduo candies, gonna get me some sweet double evolution XP tonight!

        • @Pyrock: cool thanks for the tips guys

        • @Pyrock:

Where do you get an incubator from, I'm level 11 and haven't come across one yet?

        • and use it when u see a new pokemon and eggs almost hatch, u get 1000xp per km, and then evolve ur pokemon for 30 mins.

        • +1

          @Stoz:
          Youre right my bad.
In the first week or so of playing it was still 1000xp per evolve

    • Incense sucks IMO, and Lures seem to be more effective the more there are in the area.

      • I think its because it draws players in.

I suspect (and read somewhere) that players can see spawns within a certain area, so more players lead to more spawns for everybody.

I tried dropping a lure at my work place but, it increased my encounter rate by 300%. Instead of just seeing one, I saw three. Which is still pretty shit.

Go somewhere with tons of players and lures and you wouldn't need incense. (The encounter rate and stop-spin rate is too much to deal with that you end up missing some spawns).

Goes on ozbargain yet spends money on a free game… :S

Personally I havnt spent anything, never have on a free game and don't plan to anytime soon, plus I still got heaps of poke balls :)

    • +37

OZ bargainer spending money on free game. Should be dishonoured, stripped of all ranks, and refused access for 1 week !!!

      • I spent money on one once, I enjoyed it, but it had ridiculous numbers of ads - I think I paid $5 to get rid of them.

Never paid anything for other FTP games.

        • +3

Should be Black Badged for wasting money.

        • +5

Here's the thing - If there weren't people willing to spend money on games with a freemium business model, then developers wouldn't have developed it in the first place. It may seem stupid to spend money on free games but some people just do it to reward the developer for making a good game that they get a lot of enjoyment out of.

It's like people who say other people are crazy for buying new cars, when you can buy a used one and save lots of money on depreciation. If there weren't people willing to buy new cars, there never would be any used cars, and manufacturers would likely not worry too much about developing cars that people want if nobody was willing to fork out for them

        • +1

@antt: I have a gut feeling that advertisements are soon going to be included in the game, but the developers will be smart about it and not make them intrusive.

For example, (and I think this is going to happen) if you local Maccas is a Gym, then defeating the gym might give you gym prestige, XP, as well as a "Free Fries" coupon. So, there won't be actual "traditional" advertisements, but some non-intrusive ones that encourages you to visit the store (since you are near there anyway). Somewhat like the Hungry Jacks' shake-and-win app.

        • @bsmksg: That would be an interesting business model and very clever. A win-win really for the developers and the gamers.

  • +12

Have spent nothing, hopefully i don't ever

Edit: Not against people spending money on it though, good to support the developer i suppose

    • +3

I occasionally buy a game from Android Market, 2 reasons why:
      1) When spending money is not required to progress in the game, but I like the game
      2) I see it's a Indie developer, I like the game, and think he needs a bit of support

with 1) I have the feeling, that as soon as I spend, the levels become increasingly difficult, enemies are more powerful, and suddenly to enjoy the game I would have to spend more. That's when I de-install the game or stop playing. Recent games that I experienced that: Tank-Blitz, and Total War - Kingdoms.

      • Good decision.

I play a lot of free to play games that have been modded for unlimited cash/shopping or whatever because I ain't gonna pay but i still want to play (oh my i'm a poet and I didn't know it). Most of the time game balance is completely screwed by IAP and it will be ridiculously hard without them but then it will be ridiculously easy after you've bought something.

Right now can think of two: Real Racing 3 and Shadowgun: Deadzone. Shadowgun would be the only game I paid real money for.

        Marvel Puzzle Quest

Been hook on this for over a year. They finally got me to spend when they had the boxing day sale last year. $6 from telstra credit via google play store

    • I agree if it's supporting local jobs. Sadly I suspect a lot of this money will go offshore.

  • You're not the only one spending money on it http://www.slashgear.com/pokemon-go-estimated-earnings-top-1…

  • +1

I don't think you'll find many people on OzBargain spending money on a free to play game.

    • +16

Why not? We seem to spend more than average people mainly because we constantly expose ourselves to advertising which causes use to spend more than if we didn't use the site.

      • +2

I agree, this is ozbargain. I would expect most of us are not poverty ridden but just frugal. In fact most of the phones these days advertised are Xiaomi which are generally ~200 AUD. The site has definitely gone upmarket.

I would argue a real ozbargainer would wait until pokecoins are on sale, but by then you'll need 190k exp just to level up. The only useful thing then would be pokeballs, also I don't know if you can buy great ball from the shop yet…

It's also whether you want to spend hours walking around or you just want to put a few dollars so you can go catch pokemon during your work break.

It's all about opportunity cost. I know the boss is buying pokecoins and his salary is in the hundreds of thousands. He has his secretary doing some runs as well with specific instructions not to transfer away any pokemon.

        • I believe google play and iTunes gift cards work

        • +1

"He has his secretary doing some runs as well"

You know you've made it when you can afford to pay someone else to play games for you!

  • +13

I will probably spend some "money" on the game. I do have Telstra credit every month that does mostly nothing.

    • precisely! that's what i'd been doing actually.

    • Good idea.

    • +1

      One word: Rebatr

      • +5

If you have some basic app dev skills, you can make your own and keep all 70% of the in-app purchase. That is what I did, planning to release it soon and undercut Rebatr etc lol

        • yeah but can u beat the payment?…Google pays u in 30 day turnaround

        • @ahly92: but you could keep the entire sum.

        • +1

          keep us updated :)

    • How do you spend telstra credit on something like this? I might be in the same position :-)

  • +2

I'm not buying anything and I've got an ok collection so far. I find filling my pokedex funner than battling at gyms

  • 0 cent…

  • -3

this Op hasn't move around so much to find Poke stops to supply pokeballs or S/he takes more than 2 pokeballs per pokemon to catch it. I suggest that you should aim more carefully and not waste Pokeballs! =)

    • +8

some people just have to stay in their room to get stuff from pokestop but some have to walk a miles to the nearest poke stop, i hope you understand. And yes, the higher level you are in, the more difficult to catch them.

      • Just click on the ones as you drive past (joking)

        • +1

lol we better keep this to ourselves. ;)

        • +7

That's dangerous man.. and illegal. That's why I get the kids to do it.

        • +2

@geek001: The driving or the catching?

        • +7

@Tihocan: Lol. If you catch and drive, you are a bloody idiot.

        • +1

@geek001: ah ok, so the kids are driving you to get them, good show

    • +1

You are quite obviously on a low level in the game. It gets increasing difficult to catch the pokemon as you level up.
I had a pidgeotto pop out of the pokeball 5 times, and had to use 10 pokeballs just to catch it.

      • +3

agree, and i'm not sure if it is only me or what, whenever you fed those pokemon with berries, your first few pokeballs will go sideway.. wasted a lot of pokeballs after the berries..

        • This is spin you're putting on the ball (which you can use to your advantage - grab the ball and spin it in circles and then throw it and it applies spin on the direction you spun it)
Make sure you use your finger to launch the ball and try to go as straight as possible

        • @Pyrock: Nope, giving berries does cause your poke balls to veer sideways sometimes, even if you do it the exact same way you actually do. There's definitely a difference.

  • I hope there are heaps of whales that pay for this game. Then I hope the developers will spend that money on server upgrades :/

  • +4

Zero. I would happily pay a small monthly fee, I don't expect it to be free. But I simply refuse to buy consumables, then you're not paying for game content, you're just paying a server to automatically flip a switch.

  • Don't play any games at all on my phone

    • +4

You more of a Normal-Paper based games player such as Tic Tac Toe and Hangman?

      • Nope, I play assassins creed, battlefield and COD 😁

  • +4

The only thing worth buying is Lucky Eggs.

    • agree!

    • +1

      Incubators :D

    • and donot use them when server is lagging, Level is the key to win

    • +26

Have you even played Pokemon Go? The full game is already available to you without you buying anything. All the stuff you can buy can all be accessible to you, paying for it just allows you to get stuff quicker.

Put the game down for a couple of days and just go for a walk

      Oh, the irony.

      • +1

        LOL. this comment…

the initial responder probably doesn't realise the irony in his statement… haha. can't blame him/her as they mustn't play it.

    • +1

      try2bhelpful

  • Zero.
The only money I've ever spent on a mobile game was $0.35 for some special pack that was 90% off because a) my kid liked the game and b) I wanted to test my payment method on the Android phone.
If a game suddenly becomes a chore to play without paying I generally give up on it (last one was Jurassic Park Builder), especially if it's "you have to pay or wait to actually play it".

  • +1

    ~$8 or so.

    • -3

interesting, look at all these butt-hurt neggers lol! & to anyone specifically that’s called others 'sheep', now look at yourselves, you’re the fat ugly sheeps now :)

      • Yeah we're the butthurt ones ;)

  • +6

I'm too embarrassed to write about it.

  • +1

Only what was in my google wallet from doing surveys; around 20 aud. will probably spend a another 20 or so over the next few months. Mostly on lucky eggs to level up faster, and lures so i can contribute rather than be a perpetual lure scab lol.

  • Stupid Asus Zenfone 2 doesn't support it because it has an intel processor. That being said I would have spend $0 on it either way. Not sure why you're buying pokeballs though, spend 5 minutes in a populated area and you should be maxed out.
