How Much Money Spent on Pokemon Go So Far??

Hey guys! I'm feeling a bit guilty, hence, i'm wondering..as subjected : "How Much Money Spent on Pokemon Go So Far??"

I myself spent $35 already!!!!

And subtopic: Money was spent mainly onto what? i.e Pokecoins into Poke Balls, Lure, Egg Incubator etc.

My $35 mostly on Poke Balls initially and recently Lucky eggs.

Cheers!

edit 26July2016: just burnt my phone due to long activity of Pokemon Go..therefore, i think i've spent $500+ :(

    • whoaaa! i personally would never ever do that.. i think it's really not worth it.

      • My bag is too full! What do you delete to free up space?

        • i would transfer them to the proffessr and get some candy in exchange, but not before i sent those unfortunate pokemon to beat up some gym..that means instead of transferring them in full HP, i'll transfer them after their fight on a gym..you still get the same candy back, thus at the same time you get to beat up some defender of a gym.

        • @0031nek:

I meant the item bag storage. But that is good advice I'll try that next time!

        • Do you battle in gyms?

If yes, you will use up your revives and potions.

If no, you can discard your revives and potions.

Don't be afraid to discard whatever you don't need at the moment. You'll get more very easily.

        • Ahh…the items bag.. yes, the most important upgrade..also i'll use the lures whenever possible, also gym battles always would used up potions etc..

      • Yeah upgrading item bag space is the only upgrade worth spending money on.
Everything else you can get for free.

i think in the end the fun about this game is how a person can tailor their own needs in achieving their pursuit..but to be honest i really think that we shouldn't spend money on it anymore eh?? (or you can forgive me if i didn't get your sarcasm)

  • +3

I spent money on a battery pack. Granted, it's useful for other means, but still.
At least there are quite a few ozbargain deals on battery packs.

  • +1

I think I've spent like 7-8 bucks, but its credit I got from google rewards for doing surveys so technically $0 of my own money. Ended up buying 100 pokeballs which I probably wasted it all on trying to catch zubats (this was when I first started).

    • +1

Oh man, you probably know this now, but don't buy pokeballs. You'll end up with more than you can carry from pokestops…

      • Yeh this was when I first started, quickly found out that there's a bus station near my house which has 3 pokestops. Now I regret wasting all that credit. :(

  • 10 WarMetalGreymons.

I would encourage all the adult men playing Pokemon to hit the gym and lift some weights instead; ridiculous stuff witnessing this shit in public…

    • +1

Hate to burst your bubble, though I have seen plenty of buff people playing Pokemon Go at my local gym.

    • +2

I have to agree - I saw a man standing in the fridge at Woolies trying to catch a pokemon. The shriek afterwards when he caught it made me question if his balls had ever dropped.

I then saw another hold up the checkout counter as he tried to catch a pokemon rather than pay for his shopping.

  • Each to their own. Some people have fun playing pokemon go while others have fun spending money on alcohol on the weekend or a packet of cigarettes.

  • I have only spent money earned from Google Opinion Rewards, and not on Pokéballs, can easily get them by driving to different PokéStops.

    • So where do you get your free petrol?

  • -2

Geez i thought candy crush was an addiction, until i heard about this…haven't started playing it as yet, so cant contribute to this discussion.

  • +1

    -$160

I've made money from the game… well not in game. But selling merch for the game.

  • GO all in!

Quit your job and play FULL time!

    $$$ZERO

But it's a great excuse to randomly walk around police stations and government buildings, I used to look suspicious, now I just pretend to look at my phone :-)

  • +2

Meanwhile, in a random crowd setting, somewhere not far away: "Excuse me Ms, there is a Pokemon gyrating on your crotch; mind if I throw my balls at it?"

  • Spent 49.95 for a zte blade phone to play pokemon. I'd like to keep my mobile battery charged up in case of emergency or important calls.

    • Is that the one going half price at Woolies at the moment?

      • Yupe. It's working quite well.

        • looks like and iphone 6

  • As an Ozbargainer. I am waiting to get a 20% off google play card so I can buy stuff

    • +4

No no no as an ozbargainer you use at least 50% off google credit from Telstra

      • looking into it now, thanks

  • +1

I may have bought a account boost to level 20 and rare pokemon………-cough-

  • +2

I'm paying someone to walk around with my phone

  • +1

I thought I'd never get over Zane leaving One Direction, thank you Pokemon.

    • lol..if OP can get to choose a "comment of the day" this will be it..

  • $0.00

  • If you're going to use your Google Opinion Rewards, it's worthwhile upgrading your bag and Pokemon storage. When the next lot of Pokemon arrive, it's going to force players to do so.

  • +3

I have grabbed my popcorn and reading the comments. 🎉🌃👌🎈😈😆😁

  • I don't play it

  • $0 - I don't play that game, but I wasted way more $$$ than OP on impulsive OZ bargain buys. So, honestly, $35.. that's nothing.

  • +1

Literally signed up just to post this.

I've spent way way way more than I should.
I drive to Gyms. I park (sometimes suddenly, often sharply) at Gyms.

This uses up fuel, and wears out my tyres, suspension, brakes, power-steering, handbrake, and gearbox.
Somehow, I think the total expenditure above is way way more than the 10c of Pokecoins you get from holding a Gym.

So I'll stop driving to Gyms in future, and maybe even buy the microtransactions if I really need a Pokecoins item, because it's hella cheaper than wearing out my car trying to do it for "free."

    • welcome! i really appreciate it, you've been having the courage to voice out what most of us has been doing. And it is really getting difficult to hold a Gym nowadays, especially if you're in Yellow team. :(

  • If Telstra prepaid credit counts, then I might make some purchases to try.

    • yes, as i've always used my telstra credit..

      • Only thing is spend limit is $20 so you can only buy coins at $13.99

        • It's $100 now.

        • @ozhunter:

How do you up the limit? When I try anything over $20 doesn't work

  • $0

  • +1

So far $120 but not really. Using saved up Telstra credit that gets used on nothing else I bought the 5200 Coins for $62, then my partner used CredMe2U to transfer another $60 Telstra credit to me. So I don't really feel that I've spent any money on the game as that credit literally just sits there and increases by $30 each month.

    • +3

Except that you could have converted your Telstra credit into $67 cash! Lol

      • While I feel my credit wasn't wasted. I'm interested in hearing about getting actual currency from my credit.

  • Incubators are good

Don't mind paying money for a good game,
Can always buy gift cards on sale :)

  • My friend told me that he increased the item slot to 900 already, because, in his words, "too little through a tram travel".
Actually, I am going to buy one itunes card before the end of coles' sale, and I really think 350 slots is not really enough for daily playing.

  • +1

    WHAT's Pokemon?

  • +1

$0 no true ozbargainer would spend money on pogo

  • around $250

  • Saw quite a few people at park with their mobile playing it last weekend.

  • I work in the industry and mobile games are the modern pokies.

They are designed to extract large amounts of time and/or money to get anywhere.

I value both of those things very highly so choose to steer clear of them.

  • I don't know how people get such high level Pokemon. I only work 8 hours a week. I've been going to the city almost everyday to catch Pokemon. I've spent $30.99 on the game and I'm still behind!

    • V easy go to Melbourne CBD so many Pokemon I am almost 90 pokes

    • 10K eggs, and a high enough level. 10K eggs can give you pokemon that are 500 to 1000 CP higher than your best pokemon.

  • Time to use the $1 Telstra SIMs

  • +2

    I spent approx $8600 , almost 100 Pokemon's collected

    • Lol how is that even possible?

      • how is that possible to spend approx $8600 or 100 Pokemons collected? or both?

        • +1

Catching 100 unique pokemon isn't impossible, I'm up to 98 myself but $8600?? Must be a business related thing where they're buying lures to attract customers.

    • Hahahaha I thought I was obsessed!

    • @ChillBro: yea i think Bargaingeek should shed some light on how it could be achieved. Money spent and pokemons wise.

  • Although I only spent like $30.99 on the game, I have spent more money on transport going to and from the city, powerbanks and also food and drinks as a result of being outside more!

Now you can spend more money on online dating? offline dating? based on Pokemon Go.

  • $0. never downloaded it. used to play pokemon blue, yellow, red with my game boy before.

  • So people spending time out more results more businesses for food and retail. Pokemon Go is the fix for recession?

    • Probably not, but it'd show in small boost in GDP this quarter (or longer depending on circumstances). I personally think it'd be more or less once off thing. I kinda think if there is going to be a longer term effect, it would be via people going out and becoming healthier from walking around so much .

  • So I heard people in some country side loaded the apps and able to play even though it's not officially released in their country.

Why the developer allow this? They can track where the user log in from and just ban them, right? Or just disable all pokes top and gym in those country. It's all about location tracking.

Why the above is not happening? I'm confuse.

    • This is the case. Hong Kong only had their pokestops turned on today. Macau sadly is still a blank map for me.

They won't ban based on country because lots of people are using vpns whilst using free wifi hotspots. It's the location data that is important.

I suspect a majority of players are actually spoofing despite others stating they aren't. Once there is a worldwide release, the spoofing levels will increase exponentially as generally the countries where Pokemon Go hasn't been released yet are lower income and with poor telecommunications infrastructure. The reason why they will spoof is mostly because 20 mb of data will amount to what could be either an hourly wage or in extreme circumstances the daily average wage. In these countries a computer and wifi is accessible and reasonably prices but mobile data, would cost an arm and leg. I would compare it to something that would be very similar to the Telstra casual prepaid A$1 a megabyte plans. Instead they will spoof and play on effectively what is a dialup equivalent.

It is very easy to alter the build.prop and to make the location data realistic to the point where it is virtually undetectable. Niantic has only been able to ban people that have been levelling too fast and there have been major outcries over false positives which after verification lead to many recovering their accounts after a few months or so. This is absolutely unacceptable, but a problem that they themselves know cannot be solved due to the nature of the problem. Using machine learning to find cheaters is even more silly as anyone who knows anything about statistics would realise the pitfalls.

I don't blame anyone for spoofing and cheating. In the end the game is really simple and boring that there will be cheaters. Niantic seems to have deliberately made it this way as to encourage cheating. By encouraging cheating they will get more people to try and pay to beat the cheater. However, that's just a futile move by legitimate players who just feed the cash cow because the cheater just needs to bot a few more hours and they are ahead again. We've seen this game mechanic again and again sanctioned by many top gaming consultants… More cheaters equals more revenue. That's just the game theory. It's even worse considering the end-game can be reached by one day of botting…

Let's not kid ourselves, their strategists have set it up to maximise revenue. Sadly this revenue model is sure to be replicated in any meaningful MMO due to its success.

      • I thought I would try and post some hints on how not to get banned and lose your account for a few months. There will be millions of accounts that will possibly be banned and with so little staff, there will be many problems that the actual turn around time to get your account back might be years. You want to follow some simple rules to not get flagged.

If you are playing at Rhodes or the Opera House or some busy place at like 3-4 AM. You better have video footage of you actually being there at that time. Although, I suspect this will be pointless as with so many accounts being banned, the support tickets will just float to the bottom of the pile.

So why do you need footage? This is because a lot of cheaters will use things like autotouch on their iPhone. Their location wouldn't be spoofed and seems virtually undetectable right? Down to the phone model and everything would be legitimate. Wrong. You'll get flagged for being overly active. I can almost guarantee you that the person sitting at Rhodes playing virtually non-stopped will be banned, it's almost certain. The only thing that person is earning themselves is a big fat ban and degrading their health. That's the sad truth. It will also hurt the person's mental health the most once they get the ban… I've heard rumours of some guy who killed himself after being banned in Ingress. I cannot confirm it though but Google is a friend…

Sadly I suspect lots of people that play legitimately will be banned and have to jump through many hoops to get their account back, or lose it altogether without any recourse.

Anyway, just use your head and play like the average person. Otherwise you'll get the ban hammer. If you are cheating, cheat similarly to a real person, but yeah, why bother… It's not exactly that interesting to see some pixels of a snorlax on your phone's screen. You can just browse on deviantart and see much better stuff… My personal opinion.

Stay safe guys, don't go killing yourself… It's just a game.

        • Meh, this needs a part 3 as well… (This is VERY important if you have actually gone and spent any meaningful money into Pokemon Go) You'll kick yourself for not knowing about it earlier.

If or when trading is released, DO NOT use free shared wifi to trade with others. At a minimum if you decide to use free wifi to trade, use a vpn, but not the free ones as that would be a disaster. Use a privately setup vpn or at least verify with the company you are purchasing from that you have an unique ip address.

This isn't going to stop someone who is a spoofer from trading away their botted Snorlax. So, DON'T trade with strangers either. I can imagine someone who is desperate for a Pikachu, trading with free wifi and then getting banned…

It's not fair the way it is, but knowing Niantic, they will repeat the same mistakes they did in the past. Frankly it would even be in their interest to ban legitimate paying customers who are addicted as they would just keep going back for more punishment.

If you want more evidence, go do some research into the Ingress ban wave that occurred roughly two months ago.

Any activity related to Niantic is going to kill the Pokemon Brand, but the Pokemon Company signed up knowing this well.

I'm really pissed that I had to write a part 3 and having to read through so many comments about people being upset with Ingress.

        • Stay safe guys, don't go killing yourself… It's just a game.

But but but. The game got me crossing freeway to catch them pokemons. I better sue the game makers. Nurf.

        • @GreenDeerling: lol i just saw a gym defender at lvl32 via Snorlax.. i was like..what the XXXX!!

  • I find the logic funny:

Spend money on a free game? Never!….Oooh, look, eneloops/SD/Micro SD cards are on sale again, I already have 20 of them but this is a good deal and can never have too many.

This is coming from someone who buys things I wouldn't otherwise need thanks to this site. Damn you and thank you at the same time, Ozbargain haha.

    • but the difference between buying eneloops or memory cards is you get something tangible. theres plenty of uses for eneloops or memory cards. what use is your snorlax other than adding an inch or two to the e-peen?

      • +2

Not if you already have enough, which most here would do and end up just hoarding then because they are simply cheap with no actual use for them.

In regards to pokemon, maybe some people don't have enough time to play so spending a bit can help them and state of mind isn't tangible but it helps infinitely more than those 100 tangible eneloops someone has in the corner. Also, paying doesn't mean you get better pokemon at all, you just get more xp or poke balls or can hatch more eggs etc.

I will never understand why other people mock others or say 'why spend money, it's stupid'. Just because it's stupid to one, doesn't means it's stupid to others. I think going out every weekend and getting hammered is stupid and a waste of money, but others enjoy it. I take the money I don't spend there and use it for stuff from here or games etc.

Each to their own as we all have different strokes.

  • +4

Considering the popularity of the game and how well it was put together (server crashes for something this big is totally understandable), I'll be giving these guys about $20. It's actually getting me out of the house more. I've been living in my area for years, yet I've never explored it. These guys deserve me thanks for the work they've done.

  • spent electricity & phone bill playing this game charging the ever power hungry game. With GPS, screen on, location settings, WIFI/3G/4G, music/sound playing, AR. And then you got capped internet cos I only have 1.5g

  • $13.99 and that was Telstra prepaid credit which I purchased half price

  • Ban wave coming soon. Hopefully no one on Ozbargain who paid cash and playing legitimately will be banned.

Knowing the historical nature of these ban waves. I think at least one person here will get hit.

  • Almost $20 to increase bag and storage, buy incubator and lucky eggs. I am a bit addictive. lol

  • $76.99 that's a lot I spent. But probably all Telstra 1/2 price cards

  • Got the big coin bunch for $162.99 as I won some money so no loss there and figure it's the best value you can get. I also want the game to develop further in the way of Gen 2 and also trading etc. The only way for this to happen is for people to spend money on the game to make it worthwhile to the dev's to continue to expand and develop the game.
