Samsung 8.5kg Top Load Washing Machine WA85F7S6DRA $799 @ Masters ($640 Pricematch with ao3)

80

My 8 year old washer ($150 worth 'Homemaker') died this morning and i was on the lookout for a replacement. Knee and back issues so decided to stick to a top loader though an hour long Google research on weather to go top loader or front loader yielded nothing!

Homed on to Samsung WA85F7S6DRA since it was ticketed down to $799 (from $899) in Masters and had great reviews on productsreview.com.au

Quick search on Internet showed it was available for $640 at ao3.com.au (https://www.ao3.com.au/product/WA85F7S6DRA) ….and few more minutes research revealed that ao3 are a catastrophe in terms of customer service…..and lastly they are in Sydney. Copy of receipt

Masters Cranbourne refused to honor price match (which I am seriously thinking of taking up with ombudsman since 'pricematch' is splashed all over the store). Contacted Masters Dandenong and they were happy to honor. …so just picked it up! FYI Masters are currently offering free delivery on week days if the purchase is > $500!!!

  • Knee and back issues so decided to stick to a top loader

    Wise move.

I absolutely hate the front loader that we downgraded to after about 20 years of service of the direct drive LG top loader.

The whole concept of front loading washing machines is a fail. They simply don't work as well as a top loader, despite some people's claims.

The thing that annoys me the most is walking into the laundry and finding the top load washing machine has "gone for a walk" and has to be manhandled back into it's original position.

    • I'm a happy Front loader convert. Yes they take longer and clothes can't be added mid cycle, but clothes come out cleaner, the machine is quieter, uses much less water, and the clothes are much dryer with the higher spin speed.

      • but clothes come out cleaner

        UNLIKELY

One thing that I really hate with the front loader is the inability to soak clothes. I've always soaked my work gear and this new machine cannot do it, so the clothes never really get properly clean.

        the machine is quieter

        UNLIKELY

        uses much less water

        ARGUABLE, and who cares?

clothes are much dryer with the higher spin speed.

        UNLIKELY

The "advantages" that you mention are simply the result of purchasing a higher quality machine. All those things are available for both top and front load machines of equal price

As for water usage, I have found that the low water level of our front loader results in very bad rinsing. The clothes still reek of detergent, even after line or tumble drying. We had to increase the water usage considerably to get it to rinse properly.

        • Sounds like your front loader was a dud!

Sounds like your old top loader was a dud LOL

Yeap, my front loader is not a top of the line model - and I hate it so much.

The previous LG 8kg direct drive top loader was fantastic - I think it cost $1500 or so when new, flawless performance except for the water pumps (same fault as all washing machines suffer from). The only reason it was retired was because the Control PCB blew and cannot get a replacement (even at rip off price from LG).
