FAQs

I've never heard of Intergrid before - who are you?
Intergrid is a new wholesale brand for Wombat Servers, an established leader in the Australian & New Zealand game server market. Over the last 18 months, we've built our own networks in Sydney, Perth and Auckland, and are now offering wholesale virtual and dedicated servers through the Intergrid brand.

What level of support is included?
All VPS and dedicated servers are unmanaged, meaning that our NOC can only assist with network or hardware related faults. Queries arising from customer-installed software will be answered on a best-effort basis, otherwise management packages are also available for purchase.

Are your servers DDoS protected?
Yes - our networks all feature extensive DDoS mitigation capacity. Our network supports our game server brand, so DDoS mitigation has been something that we've focused on perfecting. All international traffic is scrubbed in Hong Kong, San Jose or Amsterdam.

What operating systems are available?
Most Linux OS are available for selection during checkout. Windows servers incur an additional $35/m licensing fee. For other OS, contact us prior to purchase to confirm availability.

Can servers be upgraded?
Servers can be upgraded between packages at any time, and the pro-rata difference between the packages will be billed.

Do you offer discounts for your larger packages, or do you have packages larger than those listed on your website?
Yes - comment on this post or contact our sales team at [email protected] or live chat for a custom quote.

Why don't you support IPv6 in Perth yet?
We are upgrading our Perth network on Friday 22nd July to support IPv6 connectivity, and additional hardware capacity.

  • $35 monthly for windows yikes!

    • Thanks for bringing that to our attention - it looks like our licensing pricing for dedicated servers was being applied to VPS inadvertently. We've corrected the error - it is $15/m :)

https://www.ransomit.com.au/vps extra 100GB bandwidth for 5GB less storage.

Auckland $12 though 100GB bandwidth is still easily worth $2.

Edit: same data center in Sydney even. Similar connectivity in Auckland.

    • We tend to find that VPS customers - especially on lower tier packages - typically don't use their full bandwidth allocation, but do find extra disk space useful. That said, we can usually match competitor pricing and packages - we would be happy to throw in an extra 100GB bandwidth while maintaining the 25GB storage.

Edit: it is also worth noting that all of our packages include 50Gbps of DDoS mitigation capacity as standard, rather than as a paid, premium service.

      • More pointing out this is normal pricing rather than a 'bargain'. The prices on RansomIT are everyday prices. It's good you're flexible about plans and I'm sure you could beat those prices easily, though negotiated deals can't be considered bargains still.

Best bet is probably to aim for the budget market, ie: $15 quarterly 512MB with 50-100GB bandwidth. I don't believe there's much room for bargains in the monthly 1GB ram sort of spot.

Thanks - that's an excellent point. We've revised this post to make it a little more competitive (60% off).

  • Pretty good price for the monthly special dedicated servers as well. I guess those KVM VPS are built on top of your single-CPU E3 servers? You should definitely list out bigger packages on your website. Not everyone wants dedicate servers when they scale up.

    • Thanks for the feedback about the VPS plans.
The CPUs used for the VPS infrastructure varies by location. In Sydney we use X5-series hex-cores, in Auckland E3 v5s, and in Perth a mix of E3 v3s and dual E5s.

I've been using Hostus, they're quite good.
This is not KVM but for about the same price you can get more than double everything.
$7.70USD/mth or $75USD per year but you get a lot more.
    you can pick Sydney location.

Any better deals on 3/6/12 month payments?

    • +1

      Absolutely:
      6 months - $42 (use promo code "OZBARGAIN-VPS-60-6mth"
      12 months - $72 (use promo code "OZBARGAIN-VPS-60-12mth"

      • Wow! Good codes! Gets it down to $6 a month.
Any chance of pushing my luck and getting some 512MB Deals as well?

        • Unfortunately we don't have any set deals for 512MB servers, but if you shoot me a PM I may be able to put together a custom quote for you.

  • How easy is this to setup for a novice? I need a service like this, but have never set something like this up before.

Regarding security, is this easy to setup?

I plan to run a PHP application.

    Any tips?

    • The server comes fully set up with an OS - we have a range of Linux distributions such as CentOS, Ubunutu and Debian which are available for installation. We provide customers with direct access to the server (usually via SSH, which is a command line interface), as well as a control panel for restarting the server, reinstalling the OS and monitoring resource use.

It's worth noting that these services are unmanaged, meaning that we're generally not able to provide assistance with installing software for you, or debugging things like PHP applications. However, setting up a VPS to run a PHP app is fairly straightforward, and we can provide you with general resources to help you get started.

For security, the servers come with the in-built OS firewall enabled. You can then customise that firewall by opening ports - eg port 80/443 for web traffic. We also run external firewalls on our network to prevent against DDoS and similar attacks.

  • Thanks for your comments. I need MySQL and phpMyadmin, how do I install these?

    • It's difficult to provide detailed instructions on OzBargain, but we'd be happy to provide instructions if you contact our support team after purchase. Both MySQL and phpMyAdmin are pretty simple to install - I would suggest CentOS over the other operating systems for its simplicity.

We also provide management packs if you need hands on assistance with setting up the server. These start at $50, and would cover the initial setup of Apache, PHP, MySQL, PHPMyAdmin etc.

  • I am busy signing up.

Unfortunately it tells me that the promo code has expired.

I wanted to go with your offer of: 12 months - $72 (use promo code "OZBARGAIN-VPS-60-12mth"

Can you give me a valid code, so I can order?

    Thanks.

    • Code is working now, thanks.
