Installed OK. MSE did not complain about any viruses.
Seems somewhat limited in terms of encoding options, at least for AVI/XVid: very few options in terms of video bitrates and available audio streams. I'm not able to select certain resolutions (from a drop-down) for encoding video. Perhaps some of these limitations are dependent on what you're trying to encode…
Easy to use, though, compared to some other programs I've tried.
And this is better than Handbrake … because …
The interface is much less complicated and more polished. I got good results on my first attempt, after about a minute of mucking about with the interface. Handbrake (last time I checked) had about four screens of options and was not at all straight-forward. As I said above, there seemed to be fewer options for configuring the conversion settings here, so I'm sure, given experience and time, you could get better results in Handbrake, but I would suggest that this program would be easier for novices to get working.
I did notice the VidCoder project (http://vidcoder.codeplex.com), which seems to be a nice attempt at cleaning up the Handbrake interface, though I haven't played with it yet.
Another free one, it's worth a try. I still doubt it's better than DVDFab 7 though.
