pretty sure the Total value $981 is a lie.

    • True, no way is it normally that value.
My dentist on the GC did this for free as I was a new customer.

Did what for free? All of the items on the list?

        • Yeah, all except I didn't get the $20 whitening kit, I got toothbrush and toothpaste.

They got their money though cos I had a tooth with a problem (broken) so needed other visits that I knew I had coming.

The item numbers will be very creative, the probes will be very sharp and the little enamel radiolucencies will all need restoration. Asymptomatic unerupted teeth will need to be removed and all amalgams will need to be replaced with composite resin. Larger restorations will need crowns because we all know that all Amalgams grow up to be Crowns. You will get what you deserve.

    • I've been to a different dentist (in another state) with a similar offer. I didn't find it to be as bad as you describe. And the item numbers appeared correct, just that the gap was waived. The thing is that some of the stuff bundled in these sorts of offers is unnecessary and uses up your dental allowance.

  • I read it as "no gap widening".

  • Not gonna down vote because I can't confirm it, but it is quite likely they are inputting incorrect Healthcare codes.

  • If there is no gap between my teeth, I wouldn't need any check up.

This is just advertising. There is no bargain here. No such thing as oral cancer screening, hence no item number for that. Maybe $40 for the take home whitening kit. The rest should be covered by private health extras at any dentist.

There probably isn't an "item" for oral cancer screening but the dentist is a good place for an early warning for this sort of thing. They are in a pretty good position to look for suspicious sores or bumps whilst they have the strong lights and the probes. As a survivor of melanoma, because we caught it so early, I'm looking for any advantage I can get. Personally I think whitening your teeth is just plain stupid; as long as my teeth are healthy I'm cool with the fact they are their natural colour. No make-up, no hair colouring, no teeth whitening stuff; I need all the money I can for my techie toys.

      • I was pointing out more so that they've overvalued their service cost at $981. No doubt that early detection leads to better outcomes in cancer!
