Free Poké Bowls @ Pokéd - Wednesday 27 July, 11am to 2pm [VIC]

1880

Hello Ozbargainers

My friends and I are about to open Melbourne’s first dedicated Poké store on the 27th of July!

Poké originates from Hawaii and is a delicious healthy meal that combines sustainably sourced fresh fish with many different salads, toppings and sauces. For those of you who don’t have a palette for raw fish we have alternatives!

To celebrate we are offering free poké from 11-2PM and half price poké for the rest of the day. We are on Healeys lane, just off little Lonsdale and will be open from 11am until 9pm everyday.

So please come in and say hi! Let us know you are an Ozbargainer, as we will be organising a private Ozbargain poké making class for the first ten people who let us know that they are part of this top secret community (feel free to secretly slide us a note with your details so we can contact you)!

For all of you who came to this post for the free poké balls, you will not be disappointed! We are located on top of 3 Pokéstops and we shall have lures on them for the entire week. Do the lures work? A Dragonite has been seen and captured 3 times in the last week at the Pokéd. See proof here

Please message me on here if you have any questions or feedback in the future, would love to hear of ways we can make it better!

Please see a link to the menu here

Cheers,

Thomas

P.s. If you could click attending on the Facebook event that would be really help us in estimating numbers, but if you can't we still love you just the same.

      Hi Tuzii

I agree that it might drop off, that is why we have chosen to sell bowls not balls.

I do love how Pokémon Go has made people more active and given people many ideas on how to use AR to further innovate.

      Warm regards

      Thomas

      • +39

        you called?

        • +1

C9 dropped you to their challenger team months ago, no one is calling.

        • Cause innovation didn't exist before Turnbull…

    • +1

      You are!

    • +22

Pokemon's been around for 20 years and been evolving since, that's some fad

        • +16

"I don't play Pokemon Go" is the new "I don't watch Game of Thrones"

        • +4

@Ninjabredman: I don't do either, do I win the internet?

        • @Ninjabredman:

Unoriginal/10. Someone always has to say this on any Pokemon go discussion.

"Poké originates from Hawaii" I thought nintendo from japan created them

    • +3

You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn around.. that's what's it all about..!

    • +10

Apparently its Pokē not Poké. Seems like they are just cashing in on a coincidence.

      • +7

        Hi Mnke

We tried it in LA and everyone there calls it poké, I am assuming it is mainly because it is much easier to write, but we definitely didn't change our name in the last 2 weeks just to align with Pokémon…

        • Hokey Pokey ice cream?

  • +1

Your shop seems to be just behind my work!! What exactly is a poke making class?

    • +51

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say it's a class on how to make Poke.

    • +50

When two pokemon really love each other they hide behind some tall grass and…

      • lol!

      • +6

lol - was just drinking water… it went all over my work computer… LOL

      • Whoa.. Chill,Bro.

        • +1

and after travelling a certain number of steps, an egg appears.

    • +1

Awesome! Hopefully we will see you quite often. it'll be an intimate session where you can ask us any questions, eat all the poké you want and have a go at rolling a pokerrito.

      • Given that your RSVP list is already pretty substantial, (last I saw was 80), do I need to make bookings? It's a small shop, if I remember correctly? I know the promotion goes on for 3 hours, but I have a pregnant friend coming along, so waiting out in the cold is not really a good idea.

        • +3

          Hi Bluedufflecoat,

Please PM me and we will organise something for you and your friend.

        • @bargains4lyfe: haven't had a reply from you yet… Hope you can still cater for your 1000+ guests.

  • Great to hear that a Poké store will be opening in Melbourne. OP can you advise of the regular pricing for your poke bowls? Salivating already!

    • +2

      Hi Gavzzz

      Thank you for commenting!

We have an entry point of 9.95 for chicken and tofu bowls, all bowls include salad, tomato, cucumber, onion and spring onion. On top of that you will have the option to choose 3-5 different toppings, (including seafood/seaweed salad, pineapple etc).

We will be charging $1 extra for each serve of fish, so the original Hawaiian with either Tuna or Salmon is $11.95.

      • +3

        9.95 + 1 = 11.95 ???

        • 2 serves of fish in it I would assume.

  • Good luck on this venture . Interested to see how this goes.

    • Thank you for the support! Really appreciate it :)

  • I'll come visit the store next time I come down to Melbourne!

    • Thank you for the comment! Looking forward to meeting you.

  • +2

You got a menu or a pricing list?

    • Hi pikaloo,

Just updated it in the description.

Hope to see you on Wednesday!

      Cheers

      Thomas

      • Thanks, I'll be there next week, can't make it wednesday.

Love the comments from this post

    • Thanks Aceboyxx

    • Thanks for the +1!

    • But no one has even questioned why u want a free poke in the balls?

  • Good luck with your new business! Hope you catch them all!

"I don't play Pokemon Go" is the new "I don't watch Game of Thrones"

    agree^
even if you hate it just install the app and run it occasionally otherwise you will become the stranger in the city.

    • +3

I tell people I don't play Pokemon Go.

I tell them that because the devs have decided that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, even though it has a more updated OS (4.4.2 official) and better specs than a lot of the phones they let run the application, is not suitable to run it. My phone ticks all the boxes that it should run it.

I'm a Pokemon fan, but I'm an tigharse who holds on to their phones when they still work fine, and can't upgrade just for a damn application.

I sent an email to the devs weeks ago asking why this was the case and never got a reply. Screw them.

      • fair enough. but as myself previous owner of note 2 and has since upgraded to note 3, i can tell you the difference is BIG enough to warrant the upgrade. note 3 is much much better than note 2. get the second hand note 3 and enter the pokemon go world, mate. before all monsters have gone.

      • You probably don't want to hear it runs on my son's 50 buck 2 year old Huawei…

      • I have the same phone and there are a few crashes etc but no enough to not play the game. I don't feel like my experience has been hampered but ask me again in a few weeks when I get the new Note to compare

        • How are you even playing it? Are you running an unofficial rom? Because I think that's the only way I might be able to get it, but I don't know if that's guaranteed to work…

It doesn't even come up in the Play Store in my phone, and when I log in through a web browser - it says my device is not compatible with the application.

I'd rather not spend the time installing a new rom (phone is currently unrooted) to find out it's not going to work. If you did install a rom on your Note 2 to get it to work, could you please tell me what rom you are running?

        • @c0balt: EDIT - I have Note 3, sorry.

        • +1

          @piggyfund:

Could you tell me what what you are running? I'm running the official Optus 4.4.2 and no dice.

I've been reading about other Note 2 owners not able to run it so I really thought it was a device restriction.

I could do with an upgrade but the Note 2 still works so well that I can't.

Ahh didn't see your edit until I posted. All good, thanks anyway.

      • +1

Just download the APK and install it manually? Should get around the issue in most cases - unless the APK itself is the issue.

Just google pokemon go apk and look for "pokemon go apk 0.29.3" and you should be right.

        • Thanks but there's been some issues regarding this application and side loading.

I might just be being over cautious, but I'm not keen on most side loading.

        • +1

          @c0balt:

I side loaded it to my PC, works well.

        • +1

@FabMan: Works on PC and it worked for someone I know who just downloaded the APK and installed it in another country where Pokemon Go hadn't been released yet.
So there's definitely no issues with it.

      • My galaxy x3 only has 1gb ram and wouldn't install from the play store but I side load it from elsewhere (mobilism cough cough) and it works fine, I also installed GPS hack since im lazy as (profanity) and literally caught like 80 of those stupid useless things in a few hours without leaving my couch (found a nice spot with 5 stops all within 'walking' distance (like 50 meters of each other) where some kids i believe kept adding whatever those things were to attract those stupid things).. Well I uninstalled it after seeing how easy it was for me and at least now I can say 'I have played it'… 'and my conclusion is its lame and IMO about as fun as pokemon gold was back in 1998' but anyway at least I dont have to say I dont play it because I cant or something lol, neither do you if you actually want to play it just dont get it from the play store.

people commenting below saying 'upgrade your phone' probably dont realise how stupid they sound, or they know and dont care because they are just yuppies addicted to the consumerism forced down our throats these days. Dont upgrade your phone for pokemon IMO you will be disappointed as it is the biggest shittest thing thats come along in a while and unless your 12 or semi-retarded id say give it a miss.

    • +2

I believe a common excuse people have been using is "I installed it because of my partner". haha.

  • +1

    Should be "Healeys Lane"?

    • Thank you! Updated.

  • +1

    MENU
// Come in store and we'll show you! //

Or you could just let us know. What's the big secret?

    • +6

We are still finalising the design of it. :P

Give me a few hours I will post it up.

      • Awesome..

melbourne has enough of fancy places to eat. please come overpriced sydney

    • Dnkei, we will add this onto our business plan!

    • +3

Sydney overpriced? Mate, it's a third the price of WA if you just follow the specials. (Seriously)

      • +1

I'm comparing to Melbourne. We are the 2 largest 4mill+ pop city, should be cheaper by the numbers.

  • +3

+1 for opening it on a Dragonite spawn!

    • Haha, thank you! You will have to come grab a Dragonite for yourself!

      • +1

Hahaha.. That was a funny night. Caught that dragonite last night and met the owners of Poke'd.

  • +2
    • +2

That is awesome! I'm not sure if it will get here in time… but will definitely have a go at sourcing them!

  • Do you do gluten free?

    • +3

I'm sure they'll limit you if you're worried about being a glutton

    • +1

      Hi Catbarf

Thank you for asking. Just reminded me to add it onto the menu.

Basically everything is GF except for the rice, as we are dealing mainly with proteins and salads

      • +4

I believe rice is gluten free

  • If I choose a rice base. Does that also come with salad?

    • Hi Astarman

Yes, all our flavours come with Tomato, cucumber, onion and salad, combined with hot rice it is really tasty!

  • The menu looks delicious, I have started venturing down healey's lane more frequently now because of all the great Korean restaurants, i'll be sure to check it out when i'm around the area!

    • Awesome! Looking forward to meeting you. :)

  • +3
