The DR700 is recognised as the first true 50W MR16 halogen replacement, with excellent compatibility on existing transformers.

  • What's the beam angle? What's the light colour? Product information is vague on this front. Anyone who's bought these (obviously the rep's opinion is moot): how do these compare to Philips Master bulbs?

    • The item on offer is 3000K (warm white) and 60° beam angle. It is the most popular variant for this product.

Philips Master is affordable and reliable, but they're only going to match a 35W halogen eg. 400-450 lumens.

    • I've used the Brightgreen and the Phillips Master range. Brightgreen are better (and usually more expensive too)!

    • I've bought one of these before, and whilst they are brighter than the Philips master LED, there are a couple of points to note.
      1) They are taller than Philips bulbs, so may not fit with the downlight protective shrouds in the ceiling, mine hit the top of the shroud and squashed the mr16 connector. If you don't have any protective shrouds around your downlights, you'll be ok.
      2) Being tall, if you have gimbal fittings, they probably will hit the side of the gimbal, causing the bulb to sit off at an angle, not flush on the bottom, making the beam angle also not straight down.
In the end, I took my DR700 down and replaced with Philips master LED because the size is similar to the regular mr16.

      • Good points to note. I'm quite happy with my Philips Masters, especially because they so closely match a regular MR16 bulb. I have two on a dimmer switch, though, that don't play as nicely as I'd like, so I'm still on the hunt for a bulb that will.

(In reality, I probably just need a different dimmer…)

        • You should check out the Diginet LEDSmart dimmer. It's the best we've found for dimming range and stability.

  • I've bought two Brightgreen DR700's in the past, one was MR16 the other GU10.

Both failed within first 6 months.

    • Sorry to hear that, Sunny. While this is extremely rare to happen, we still want to ensure your peace of mind which is why the DR700 is backed with a 3 year warranty.

      • So, does your "C" stock come with the 3 year warranty?

      • That's great but I couldn't locate my receipts.

        • +1

So what does your poor filing abilities have to do with this deal?

        • +1

That's great but I couldn't locate my receipts.

How is this an issue with Brightgreen? Sheesh……

    • For comparison, I bought nearly 20 DR450s (because the DR700 was too expensive in comparison at the time) and haven't had any fail.

I do, however, have problems with the ones not on dimmers flickering sometimes at start up. Sometimes they will flicker for 30s+ before they start properly which can be very frustrating.

The ones on dimmers don't do this, but instead flicker from ripple control signals (always on the hour or half hour for about 10s) when dimmed. From research I did this appears to be normal for retrofit dimmable LEDs.

Yes I think it should be stated in the title or description that these are second hand. Otherwise to call it the "lowest price ever" is misleading.

  • Are you aware if these cause any RF interference to Short Wave HF radio reception?

  • How do these perform with old 12v iron core transformers?
    any flicker?

    • They will be fine. These are "real" (magnetic) transformers and give a clean output waveform.

      • Ummm…real transformers???
i use 8w nichias with iron core transformers and some flicker for few minutes on initial startup….
i appreciate that the low load of LED often cuases the "electronic transformers" to not run correctly as opposed to running with 35w or 50 halogen.

Oh well i got some to try…let see how they go :)

  • Nice looking light, but 700Lm for 10W is not excellent efficacy. 10W should give me about 900Lm. Great price for what it is though.

  • really tempted to buy some. Rep, it would be great if you can confirm that these Refurbished items come with 3 years warranty?

    cheers

I have had 6 x DR700's installed in my kitchen since 2012 and they work flawlessly and provide equal to or better light then the halogens they replaced. I would highly recommend.

  • But really…
    What exactly does refurbished mean?
Were they returned, then no fault found?
It looks like the rep states 3yr warranty, so if I happen to buy one that's a year old, am I covered if it just stops working through normal use in a years time from my purchase date?

Like to try these, but cautious…

    • What exactly does refurbished mean?

It's pretty clear that they are returns that have been tested. They're not going to pull then apart to do any repairs at this price.

Were they returned, then no fault found?

Or they had minor faults that were easily fixed.

It looks like the rep states 3yr warranty, so if I happen to buy one that's a year old, am I covered if it just stops working through normal use in a years time from my purchase date?

Where does the rep say three years warranty?

How is the page that the deal links to in any way ambiguous?
