wow at the price of a laptop…

  • Free PS3 for a $3600+ Laptop…(Which makes me sick)
Sure it has Raid 0 SSD which could justify some of the cost but not all of it.

    With the ps3 included..
I dont think its that great- Its just like the Free PS3 with a TV deal.. Except this is expensive..

    • Z series is the ultraportable business laptops for sony. for 1.5kg laptop with high power!!!

    • +6

It's a High End Laptop. It's not going to suit many, but it's a nice bonus if you're tossing up between a MacBook Pro and the Sony, this might push you over the line.
Having Said that, my positive is really there just to offset the incorrect negative.

      • That is very true +1

      • except there are more "high end" computers for cheaper available even if i went and bought a ps3 with one.

        • +1

actually i havent found one…mind to shine me some light? preferably same weight as well

        • +1

if ur refering to desktops yes, laptops…. please find me one that has the same computing power as the Z128 in the same size and weight, quad ssd not necessary.

i wonder if we can take three of them out and just use one.

  • -2

not suit u does not mean not for others… :) this is really for business… 3600$ for business? yea… is nothing… +

    • +2

lol "business" doesnt mean the laptop is worth that much, nor does it mean its powerful and definitely doesnt mean its value for money. business also doesnt mean it should be expensive. the term "business" is regarding a medium powered computer thats also affordable. the majority of "business" people arent millionaires. business laptops are less powerful than gaming laptops and have special configurations suiting business needs, not neccesarily better than a home pc. Thus the distinction between different windows versions. gaming laptops have different configurations, but happen to be high and and thus worth the price mark at times.

i dont think this suits anybody, unless that person likes paying a premium for a brand name overprice laptop.

  • +1

i think the price is entirely justifieable and a bargain with the ps3 for those with the needs, we are talking QUAD(4) ssd in raid, i7m AND gt330m all within 1.5kg.

    • and a 1920x1080 13" screen? that's alot of pixel density

      • LOL what in the world were they thinking!

    • +2

i7 and g330m in 1.5kg isnt that amazing. the main selling point is the quad ssd raid 0.

but if you ask anyone knowledgeable in this field. sure this is awesome. cause thats just incredible read write speed

but raid 0 is one of the riskiest configurations you can have cause once one drive dies, they all die. so probability of data loss just went up by a factor of 4.
also 2 or even a single ssd more than suffices to transfer data satisfactorily. having 4 is just ridiculous. unless your entire networking is running ssds in raid 0. you will never utilise all that speed, its only useful for loading programs that 1 second faster

what sony has done isnt that amazing, because its not impossible to do. other manufacturers just havent done it because its plain stupid and pointless

a further point to consider is whether they are using TRIM ssds. which i doubt

  • I doubt the included PS3 justifies the price marked up on the laptop, but if your going to shell out that much on a laptop anyway then its a good bonus. Could even ebay it I guess to offset the laptop price

  • Guys, check this machine out, Z128 serious weaponry for the highend user. Don't just look at the specs, anyone would just buy HP or acer or some $%#*.look beyond… carbon fibre lid, one peice milled aluminium keyboard dual and quad SSD configs, backlit keyboard with ambient light sensor, Adobe software (full Versions) of Premiere Elements an Photoshop Elements, 96% Adobe colour RGB LED edge lit screen at 1920x1080, hybrid graphics system (auto swithes between Full Graphics card use to Main board graphics depending on the application.
But yes, you do pay for it.

  • +2

you get what you pay for, mainly the specs of hdd, ram, weight they cost alot.
ive got a previous version one myself dual raid, and a macbook pro. and the sony is ALOT lighter than the mac, the mac at firewire 800 though. always in and out of overseas, carried the mac once overseas for 3 weeks, and it really pulls ur back a bit.

sure there is alot of laptops out there thats better, some may even have better graphics cards/cpu, but at the end of the day, you've got to compare it with the weight and battery power. its really more suited for someone with business needs i.e graphical type work…this it where the 4 raids comes useful, loadtimes in rendering is heaps faster. i dont see a reason for someone that wants to play games even think about buying this laptop. go buy the alienware for games. but its bulky and heavy. if your a student, dont bother with the sony z series, go buy a $1000 dollar laptop or sony sr series half the price. majority of uni work wont need much more than ms programs/other types of programming programs. unless ure in graphics designs, could consider this.

the sony price is normal, last yr the z58/57 sitting around 3999, the console is really the bonus. which is the only bargain here.

expensive price for a lightweight laptop, but if its perfect for your business its a tax deductible business exquipment =]

overall if your the person that rarely takes the laptop out of the house, then your best off buying some big and bulky, more powerful laptop, that never moves off your table, or get a desktop.
if your after weight, i'd highly rate it. its pretty much on par with macs, though some design programs you wont find on mac and some cant be found on windows, buy both mac and sony =D
0.5kgs lighter than other laptops does take its toll when you carry it around alot.

as for some comments, you should be comparing with sony's lightweightness and the power it has.
asus eeepc/msi wind 10" netbook is near the same weight, but does it even come close for the power that sony has? other than that i havent came across thats even light. and if you have, please enlighten everyone and show us the powerful specs with the same weight range. id be interested in upgrading it then.

oh btw, the carbon lid has a 50kg pressure point until it breaks, haha

    • Damn that lid has some strength

  • actually going by kaverns point regardless of how much of a rip off sony is. theyre stuff is good
i esp like the lids and the fact they bothered to give this kind of configuration
just the price is still ridiculous. plus the value of a ps3 has gone down from 600+ to like $300. so really ur getting like 10% off basically.

    • the ps3's are going on ebay for 350 last i checked, and rrp in store is 499…
