Let's all hold hands and pray every seller on eBay raises their prices by the same amount so the universe can be in harmony

    • +12

Previously TA said max 1% then 1.25% now 1.5% waking the way back to 4% at the end of year.

      • I can see it stops somewhere in the middle where they get the profit maximised, the 0.25% step is just a testing procedure.

  • +3

Are cashrewards good guys still? I really think there were when they first started. It seem like they got enough client base now that it doesn't really matter.

Honestly 1.5% doesn't do it for me. Get $1.50 back if you spend $100. It isn't really enough + could taking extra % from eBay work against you when don't receive bonus targeted vouchers? They are worth much more. Maybe it does? Maybe it also doesn't make a difference too. 1.5% isn't enough to risk it though.

    • it is just an add on saving when they are having 20% off this and that.

Which reward you would you instead pricepal?

I have no issues with cashrewards, if the transaction k=missing raise it up with them you get response in couple of days or if the rewards is due to be approved and it is not then contact them, I always got my transaction tracked and approved.

    • Are cashrewards good guys still?

There's a current discussion going on here.

  • +5

Makes a 63 cent difference to the $250 purchase I'm about to make. I'll take it I guess!

    • what are you buying?

      • +6

        Exhaust for my CB400 :)

        • Fully sick bro…I might chuck one on my Honda !!

    • +15

But look at it this way. If someone listed a bargain for a $250 item and said the the special price was $249.37 (save $0.63) would anyone seriously vote that as a bargain?

      • +1

Not a chance, hence no +. Just saying I'll accept the pocket change haha

        • +4

          I think we all would.

      • +4

        depends who listed it ☺

        • What if it was for Charity??

  • +11

I mean it's great and all that the percentage has gone up, but this isn't a bargain. At best it's a forum post.

  • +21

Did everyone forget this when they were gonna raise the cashback back to 2% permanently but then they quietly reduced it back to 1% again?

    Happy Friday!

We’ve been listening to everyone who’s been in touch with us - we love hearing all your feedback. We know you're upset about eBay, and so are we.

Our goal here at Cashrewards is to offer the best cashback rates on everything you buy online – we’re very passionate about this!

We’ve had a big chat and believe the best thing to do is up the eBay cashback to 2% from 6pm AEDT tonight.

This isn’t what we had initially planned, but our ultimate goal is to make you happy and offer the best cashback rates in Australia! This will cost us money in the process but we figure you're worth it!

Cashrewards has brought our game face back for 2016. It’s not even the end of January and we're already working extra hard to make the community super happy.

    Keep on clicking on!

  • Need another 20% off sale from major retailers to go with it

    • And their 25% price jackng?

  • paused 2 seconds, I thought the cashback increased from 1.5% to 1.25%, so weird

  • -1

It's strange. I click thru cashrewards it shows 1.5% for ebay last week and even few days ago. so they put this to change down to 1.25% in few days?

  • +2

I have been spending heaps on Aliexpress given their 7.25% cashback promotion and prices are generally cheaper than eBay. Proly because of cheaper fees.

  • +1

You'll have a better chance of catching Mew in Pokemon GO than getting CR to track your eBay purchase.

    • +4

Really I've had 100% success. I use firefox with no add ons.

      • Didn't work for me on a 900$ purchase.

        • +1

Send them an email - their support team even chased up a 8c cashback for me :).

They'll do it as it means more cash for them and you (it's a win win)

        • @blighst: oh… I thought if it didn't work it just didn't work. This was like four months ago.

        • @MrMcHairyHead:

Take a screenshot of the transaction (including order number) and send them an email explaining circumstances. There's a good chance they'll be able to pay you your 1.25% which isn't insignificant for that amount.

        • +1

@blighst: IIRC it was actually back when the amount was 4%…

        • @MrMcHairyHead:

As you left it this long they may only be able to get you the 1.25% but seriously worth a shot regardless.

    • +3

hasnt failed me once in 2 years.

      • You were just lucky.

    • You'll have a better chance of catching Mew in Pokemon GO than getting CR to

pay you, not unless you've sent them many emails after many months…

  • Thought this post would come from TA

  • Is this temporary or new standard cashback percentage?

    • Deal says it expires 4th August.

  • +18

Yes peoples, save 25 cents more every hundred spend, and a massive $2.50 more every thousand!

    • -1

save 25 cents more every hundred spend

Save an extra 25 cents more every hundred spend

      • Save 25 cents more every hundred spend

Whichever way you say it, it doesn't sound very impressive.

  • +17

0.25% can be considered a deal but it should be a forum post tbh

    • -7

Even if 0.25% off isn't big it is a deal. Numerous other cash back deals have been posted previously and been popular. Also the report button is for these matters not a neg vote or a comment.

      • +5

Sorry I should have been more clear. Negged the deal as many purchases we're not tracked, some from 1.5 years ago are still pending. Also, if you think from another perspective - $2.50 additional discount on a $1000 item - would you still be giving + to the deal?

    • It's worth posting for the attention. Not everyone visits the forums.

But I agree, 0.25% is nothing to write home about, and certainly doesn't change my ebay buying habits, since it used to be as high as 4%.

  • +7

This is a pretty lame deal. This was a store it would be negged into oblivion.

  • +10

To save an extra $0.25 for every $100 is not a deal.

      • +4

Well, to be fair, if everything 1 cent cheaper than the last deal was worthy of being posted, this place would be flooded in a price war of 1c price reduction battles.

Not saying this shouldn't be posted, but it's far from an amazing deal.

        • Its more cashback for free then there was 2 days ago.

Woolworths and coles deals are posted each week to show a small saving in items posted regularly.
Powerbanks are posted regularly with only dollars differences.
Blocks of paper, eneloops, umbrellas etc are posted as deals/bargains with very little difference in price to each other daily.

"Flooding" Consumers and members of a bargain community with sales of things at their cheapest or giving them more cash back for the things they buy at their cheapest is the point of this site.

It's Ozbargain, not "I only got $15 for free from a thousand dollar spend and I wanna vent my frustration for getting more money in my pocket.com"

Sites like Cashrewards could just not bother making money and in turn we could get nothing back in cash for shopping on ebay and the like

I know when I buy something off ebay and the very little cashback of 1.25% goes to 1.5% I don't complain about the extra money, I upvote the OP for bringing it to mine and the communities attention.

        • +1

@ozy: Dollars vs cents. You're saying every cent counts. Should they?

Discounts are good, but RE: flooding, there comes a point where the saving is not worth the inconvenience. We aren't there yet. But in a theoretical world where 1c differences get posted, that would be terrible. I'd rather miss out on those 1c savings if it means being easier to sift through the site and find genuine bargains.

        • -2

@lostn: use the search function if its too hard to sift through.
Its not a 1c difference, its a percentage off a purchase on ebay.
Buy a $15K boat on eBay and tell me that logging into CR was too inconvenient to get the free $375.
A deal is a deal and this is no different.

        • +2

          @ozy:

A maximum of $50 cashback may be earned on any single purchase.

Going to have to buy a cheaper boat to utilise the extra 0.25% cashback

        • +1

          @PBG: :)

      • +1

Hmm, let me think. So I should go through the entire process (aka trouble) of going via CashRewards site to eBay to save an extra 25 cents/$100, I think you are right - I definitely don't value the 'saved' 25 cents.

        • -6

          Process/trouble?
What? Logging in and clicking "Go to store"…

As I said I feel that people like you that don't value money, at whatever value, should have your accounts revoked.
Seriously why be on a site like this if you don't like to save (or in this case get for free) money?

        • +6

@ozy: Yes trouble, when you don't receive the 25 cents in the end.

Seriously, I think you should open up your own 25centsbargain.com.au and be the moderator there. Till then, I will continue to be an active member here and comment on non-deals. I hope you put your 25 cents in a term deposit and buy a house in the end.

        • -1

@evolution-flip: 25c in the bank today with compounding interest every time I spend $100, means my grand children will be better off.

I know which kind of grand parent I'd prefer to be.

FYI average money spent in an Australians lifetime is approximately 3 million, so approximately $8250 worth of just 25c for every $100, not taking into count compounding interest or better yet a term deposit over a lifetime.

Thats more than a deposit on my grandchilds house or a fancy car.
Pretty cool pay off for the trouble

        • +4

@ozy: Can I get 50% stake in 25centsbargain.com.au considering I came up with the domain name? You can have the other 0.125 cents.

        • +1

          @evolution-flip:

just link up one or two new bank accounts to a paypal email will get anyone more than 25cents!

        • @evolution-flip: You could just send me your 25c each time you spend $100 until you die and i'll leave your kids a 50% stake in a 2c domain name

  • +2

    That's very generous of them.

    • Like a whole 0.25% increase when 0.05% might have been good.

  • +2

Not a deal. Save 25 cents on every $100 purchase. Really?

  • +2

Seriously mods? We get our neg comment and vote removed because it's a minuscule discount? Is this site for the community to vote or for businesses?

    • -1

There is some affiliation with Mods and CR.
Prob not worthy of a neg vote as it is a bargain of sorts.

      • There is no affiliation with mods and CR nor with any other company. OzBargain is 100% independent.

As for the vote, please look at the voting guidelines.

        cyrax83 reason for negative vote:

        >Not a deal

        From our guidelines:

        >Inappropriate uses of negative vote

        >Any negative vote that falls into any of these reasons will be revoked by a moderator. Negative votes for any other reason will not be removed by a moderator.

        No explanation of the vote

        “Not a bargain.”

Update: After an investigation in the database, it appears the full comment was cut off. Full comment: Not a deal. Save 25 cents on every $100 purchase. Really? thus due to there being a reason for the vote, the vote stands.

        • OK. I was referring to the neg vote by cyrax83, where your reason above stands.

  • +4

A massive WTF at whats going on here!!

I come here too look for bargains, but now a 1/4% increase in a cashback offer that you get back at retirement age is worth it arguing over?

  • +1

    Used to 4%
Why did ebay cut the commission to cashrewards? Anyone know the background?

  • +1

I'd stick with ebates get a better deal with them :)

    • ebates only gets you a better deal on certain categories and only if they're available in the US store. A lot of the remaining categories are at 1%.

      http://www.ebates.com/ebay

  • +2

If you're a CA then under the Affinity Program (https://www.charteredaccountantsanz.com/en/Site-Content/Memb…) you can sign-up to We Shop Smart and get 2.5% cashback from eBay (http://www.weshopsmart.com.au/caanz/ShopMerchantDetail.aspx?…). Practically, anyone can sign up and just input the promo code 'CAANZ' to get the benefits. I am a CA but not sure how We Shop Smart would know if I wasn't.

On the assumption that We Shop Smart are unable to negotiate a better eBay cashback than the mighty CashRewards, does this not mean that CashRewards are pocketing 1%+?

    • Thank for this info.Just signed up.Regarding cashback rate,as a user,I think you can not do much. Some stores on Weshopsmart have much lower cashback rate than CR or PP so that it pockets some percentage of the transaction too.Just find the best rate when you shop.

      • Agree 100%. Having said that, I have had a fair number of non-tracked purchases through CR so I tend to stick with PP (founder rate) and WeShopSmart

  • +3

The comments in this deal have been quite an entertaining read. Thanks guys :)

My view: Not a deal but not quite negworthy either.. but closer to a neg than a pos. Neutral from me.

  • I'm a member of the ebay partner network and for this month the average commission is 4.4%. We do get some bonuses for reactivating inactive users though which cashrewards wouldn't get much of so that may be bumping the average up a bit.

The lowest commission I've received in the last two months was 2.5% so I do think cashrewards does add a decent margin but then again maybe they are not under the normal ebay partner network program. Not sure how they track users as I don't have access to enough information to do that.

    • HOw can we being the member? to get at least 2.5%?

      • You can sign up here: https://partnernetwork.ebay.com/en/home

It's only for website owners though. To be clear I have a website that drives traffic to ebay and earn commission for that traffic. You may be able to sign up yourself and click the links yourself and earn commission but you may well get banned for doing that as it's not how the program is intended to be used.

Of course whenever I buy off ebay I click my own affliate links but that's because I have lots of genuine traffic coming in that they wouldn't notice.

  • +1

Increased cashback is not a deal, there is no guarantee you will get it. Should be a forum post.

    • -2

Don't agree with this - anything of significant value should be considered a deal.

e.g. 10% cashback on a category at amazon (with an example item)

0.25% additional is not a deal IMO. In the future what is stopping them posting 0.01% increase.
