Do you sell anything that I could use to automate a 2.4kw Electric booster on a solar HWS?

    Thanks

    • +1

Assuming AC powered? Hard Wired or socketed?

Most of the automation products that CSH sell require some form of controller, do you have any automation going already?

      • Its AC powered. Hard Wired. Right now I have to go to the meter box to switch it on and off.

I am running some very basic automation with a Raspberry Pi and pimatic. I don't have a zwave controller or anything for the Raspberry Pi but I imagine I could buy one.

Hard wired might make it a little tougher, you'd have to place something in-line I'd assume - hit CSH up and see if they know of anything to help, haven't worked with hard wired appliances yet.

          Good luck!

        • @XeKToReX: Thanks! Out of interest can you give me a brief overview of what your home automation system looks like? Which controller?

        • +1

You need to get your sparky to install a "contactor" which is a relay designed to switch high current loads…such as your booster.
With the contactor installed you can then control that with a module such as https://capitalsmarthomes.com.au/collections/aeotec-aeon-lab…
Have your sparky install this at the same time.

Then you can control it all via zwave.( once you either get a zwave stick https://capitalsmarthomes.com.au/collections/aeotec-aeon-lab… or a controller such as a Vera.)

If you are new to HA, then id recommend going with Vera.

        • @daveaus: PM'd mate!

    • Hi Daveaus, if you can provide us some more info we can tray and sort something out for you, what exactly do you need to automate?

      • Hi Cshomes.

Its a hard wired solar hot water system. At the moment I need to flick a RCD in the meter box outside to switch it on and off. What I am looking for is something that can be wired in by an electrician between the RCD and the hot water booster so I can put it on a timer and switch it on and off without going outside.

Since it is 2.4kw I would imagine I need something a bit beefer than your usual in wall type switch.

I currently have a Raspberry Pi running the pimatic home automation software but I don't have any zwave devices so I would either need a controller as well or a zwave connection to the Raspberry Pi.

        Thank you.

        • We do have some 3kw Fibaro relays on their way but they are at least a few weeks away, you would also need a Zwave add on for the Raspberry (we have them) or a separate zwave controller. We can also get some ABB contactors (RCD's) that can be controlled by a Zwave relay but it would be a much simpler install to wait for the 3kw relays. Feel free to send us an email at [email protected] and we can provide you some more information.

        • @Cshomes: Thanks, I will send you an email shortly.

Awesome price on the multi sensor! Any deals on in-wall switches or d/w sensors for the CSH faithful to save on shipping?

It wouldn't be a CSH Deal without my praise for their post-sales support also!

    • +3

Thanks for the praise XeKToRex, we have created a discount code for free shipping on all orders over $95. Just use code '95shipsfree' at the checkout.

      • Thanks guys, hopefully there's still stock once I'm finished eating :D

      • Aaaand done :D

        • ….aaaand snap. Got some extras here as well. Now I just need to work out what to use them for! :-)

  • Hi, I see that the frequency is 942.42 MHz.

But this frequency is not listed on the SmartThings Hub for Z-Wave, see http://z-wave.sigmadesigns.com/docs/Z-Wave_Frequency_Coverag… ? I assume this is a typo?

    • SmartThings isn't released in Aus yet so won't be supported. Better to use Zigbee (I believe it is) if you wanted to import a hub.

  • Could this be used with LIFX smart globes?

    • +1

LIFX is WiFi, Z-wave is a separate mesh protocol. You will need something to sit in-between that can speak both languages.

    • Yes of course, the 'trick' is to be able to control both with the one app. I'd suggest getting the Vera Edge and then you should be able to control both from that (http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=36961.0). Lots of other alternatives out there - at the very least you need a usb key to send/receive commands to the zwave network - if you go down that route you can always get a raspberry pi and use the key plus 'mygenie'.

Personally I only recently got a Vera Edge and now have it controlling my legacy X10 kit, as well as receiving data from some arduino pro minis using mysensors. I'm really starting to like the Vera - you can create pretty complex scenes very easily through the gui, but if you want to dive even deeper you can do a lot more…… It's not perfect, but I think it's pretty good value for what you get.

And OP - thanks for these deals! FYI The mysensor kit appears to be working pretty reliably.

  • Any chance of a deal for the smart switch 6? I missed out on the last one.

    • +1

Hi gadget, apologies for the delayed reply. We have those at a pretty good price already but we could do another 8% off. Please use voucher code 'aeon8off' at the checkout

  • Great price for the multi sensor, I paid $88 for same model a few months ago. Might pick up an extra one or 2.

  • +1

Thanks OP - my kit arrived today. FWIW the ZW074 motion multi sensor doesn't appear in the list of directly supported devices on the Vera (I assume it's just too new), and the first attempt at pairing as a generic device failed but it worked the second time (after moving it closer to the gateway).

    Cheers

    • Thanks for letting us know, glad your all setup now. Great news about the MySensor kit, we will dust off the old test gear we had and give it another go!

      • No problem. Let me know if you want any pointers re the mysensors stuff. Cheers.

  • Just bought 8. Good price, thanks.

edit: I gave you the wrong (a slightly inconvenient one) shipping address. Just shot you an email.

  • So from a bit of reading it looks like the USB stick is all I'd need to be able to send and receive signals with sensor and switch listed in the post? This one https://capitalsmarthomes.com.au/collections/z-wave/products…

And if so, how about a package deal with all three?

I'm just looking to test a few devices at this stage so don't want to invest in a Vera or Fibaro hub or anything - I'm messing around with Home Assistant and OpenHAB etc for now.
