Is this worth the money? or is the G5 (grey import) $560 better?

    • +8

You have to be careful as I heard that the G5 has the same boot loop issue as the G4.

      • +8

thank you for the heads up! Just googled G5 bootloop and it already gave me hundreds of reports. Geez, I will stay away from LG for now.

        • +5

But that would also mean staying away from the 5X as well. LG have made some good ones, and some bad ones. The Nexus devices so far have been fine so far. My Nexus 4 was the last LG phone I used, and it's happily chugging along for someone else now.

        • @flaminglemon: I've had a state of phones and I'm having no issues with my 5x. I had a nexus 4 for a long time as well.

I think I got mine for like 400 from some eBay store, it's the model that supports band 28 though.

        • @flaminglemon:

I heard Nexus 4 Also had a same possibility for bootloop as well.

        • As you typed this, My G4 from QD ebay deal suddenly got boot looped yesterday :'(
Tried to contact them but still no response. THere are still about 2 months until the warranty expired. I will try to chase QD

          Got boot looped when I'm enjoying my Pokemon Go :{
Now I have no motivation and just sleep the whole day like a useless lazy bum I am

        • @rodinthink:
Bugger. I got the same G4 deal.
Love my G4, wonder what my next equivalent will be…..
Let me know how you get on with QD please.

        • +1

@rodinthink: Actually, I think you're right. I remember hearing about that, but I missed those boot loops because I got mine after the updates were released.

It's not fair that early adopters pay more and get the most problems, but that's how it is with technology. Every company fixes problems reactively. So if you're getting something that's less than a year old, it's possible you'll run into problems. Like @alz said, people just have to be careful.

        • @albanyson:

Just sell it in gumtree / ebay before you regret it (if you don't want to risk it, but I think there is a high inevitable risk since LG admit it themselves that they're (profanity))
Buy yourselves Stock Android phone because it never dissapoint OR the one that have features like removable battery & Micro SD card and run @ 1080p to maintain the battery life (also run at least Android 6.0 Marshmallow)—> Perfect for Pokemon GO and Watch Video Offline when Travelling

        • @rodinthink:
Interesting… My LG-G4 from QD went bad on the 29th/July….

        • @Blenny:

          Is this part of conspiracy?
Did you buy it from September?

I already tried to contact QD around a week ago but still no response till now
Perhaps they got bombarded by OZB complain for bootloop

        • @rodinthink: Yep, very interesting that so many died within days if it is a hardware problem… Either a coincidence or it is a major software bug.

        • @Blenny:

LG already admitted that it's their mistake.
Same with NVIDIA GTX 970 3.5gb issue

        • @rodinthink:

My LG G4 boot looped Monday night
Still no reply at all from QD-AU regarding RMA, have sent messages through eBay from the purchase page and the QD-Au page, with no response
I did manger to hrd reset it, but it's doesn't get past the logon screen

Tonight just bought the MotoG4 16gb for $345

        • @rodinthink:
          Serial numbers number 509
          (2015/sept)

        • @albanyson:

          Hi Buddy,
They contacted me 3 weeks after I sent the message.
Open the Dispute with ebay to QD so that they will respond quickly. I forgot that I got this option. My phone have some dent mark on the corner , not too sure if the warranty void because of that but I reckon they still have to fixed it even though the warranty already expired as the bootlooped problem isn't caused by the drop nor contact with water.

I bought the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime as it is the BEST VALUE phone available and planning to sell G4 as soon as it have been fixed before the next release of LG phone like LG G6 or other flagship released (to avoid depreciation value)

        • @rodinthink:
I needed a good phone that worked. I was borrowing a 5yr old 500mb phone just to call.
Buying a $100 supermarket phone to get me by, would be a waste, if it's 3 months till I get the LGG4 back and have yo but anything again after that.
The Moto G4 was a reluctant buy. I think after this LG G4 expense, I'm prob even sold more on cheep china droids. The Redmi I've been looking at yesterday too. 3gb/32gb is released soon. There done others interesting but unfortunate couldn't wait for more shipping.

Going to to the disputed now.. It's in basically as new condition, very well cared for.
I think I will miss the LG G4. It ticked all the boxes and more……..

        • @rodinthink:
How do you get to the dispute?
I've messaged and emailed eBay from the help and contact section, the only disputed incan find is about an official resolution costing $15? Selecting "my option is not here " on ebay Suspe just goes to FAQs, where I sent another message from

      • yeah, mine returned to telstra after 2 weeks use, got brand new replacement, no boot loop yet but keep restarting randomly, wish I choose S7 instead.

      • Then what phone would you reckon that have a same feature like removable battery & Micro SD card and run @ 1080p to maintain the battery life (also run Android 6.0 Marshmallow)?

I planned to buy new one after my Boot-Looped G4 have their replacement. Perhaps Stock Android is the safest choice

    • +5

If you're looking at grey imports, you can get this phone for $355:

The new Nexus's (by htc) will be coming out in 2 months time so price of this will drop further then.

  • +3

Tempting but don't need it at the moment.

  • I've got a coupon I'm not going to use so if anyone wants it reply here and pm me your email so I can send it to you.

    • +1

The voucher is not unique as far as i can tell. my barcode is also 92897441370.

      • same

      • Was going to offer mine, can confirm my barcode is the same.

  • I have two coupons if anyone wanted

  • +2

Feel free to use: 92897441370. Stick a comment in if you use it.

    • +4

Appears to be generic, I got the same code.

  • +12

I got one 6 months ago for the same price… at JB…
I would wait for the new Nexus phone

  • I ended up purchasing LG G5 today through local ebay seller @ $559 grey import, hopefully the phone runs smoothly

  • +1

If only we had a similar deal for 6P I would be very tempted to grab one. I have been looking for a decent deal for 6P for a few weeks but nothing is around from a reputable dealer (read that as not going near Android Enjoyed).

    • +7

I have used Android Enjoyed - NEVER Again - months waiting for a repair, only to be told the phone is fine, despite it having issues. Cost me a fortune in postage as you have to send back to China - Cost me about $300 in the end on top of the $500 phone cost, only to throw it in the bin.

Do not buy from them - worst experience EVER

      • Thanks, will put this link to this comment when another Android Enjoyed deal pops up and I neg it

      • Heh. Funny you bring them up. I was researching prices for HTC 10 and AE had the cheapest price but I had never heard of them so I deicded to research them. Man. They have sme really, really bad reviews. People complaining of their phones being opened before they arrive. Dust under camera lenses (suggesting refurbs). Automated responses. etc.

I think I'll pay the extra cash when the time comes to replace my old, but still working, S4.

    • I think best option is with eGlobal or DWI, locally consider buying from Optus.

      • +2

eGlobal are an absolute nightmare, I could not advise more strongly for people to shop elsewhere.

        • I bought an ipad and a few phones before without problem. I guess people's experience can be different.

        • -1

@fidelio: Have you experienced a warranty claim with them? Issues are rarely experienced during the purchasing process.

    • I did combine a couple of offers to get the 6P for around $480 last November ;)

  • How about the Letv x600 for $180 delivered. It is a fantastic phone (I am currently using it). Worth checking out. You would have to get it from overseas (there are a few well known stores that I have used in the past).

    • I had a Nexus 5 previously and changed it for an LG G4. The phone has been great but the locked bootloader on the TWN variant which I have irks me no end. I have had to stick on 5.1 because the root on Marshmallow is flaky with no unlocked bootloader.

Personally it is back to Nexus to ensure the latest releases when they come out and Google encouraging people to enhance their experience and so don't restrict the phones so heavily.

    • +1

Hi Bigdave, can you please share a link of the phone you purchased from? I am interested in buying Letv mobile.

Also, is Letv x600 same as Letv Le1 pro as described in the deal below?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254575

    • +1

      +1
Got my le 1 x600 from Banggood for around 170 shipped. amazing phone, hardly any bloatware, google integrated, works like a charm. seriously good phone for the price

  • +2

Tempting but new nexus in two months

    • +1

Yep and price will drop further!!!

  • Wow, nice price for a local stock. I retried my nexus 4 8gb and started using s6 edge 32gb (wife got upgraded to s7 32gb) so happy for now.

  • +1

i'm waiting for my G4 to bootloop and i'm going back to Nexus phones, just wish they didn't price them so high at launch..

Havent learnt my lesson with LG both G4 and P990 model..never again..hope their olead TV's are better made..

    mixo

    • +2

Did you forget to turn off your Google Translate or what?

      • lol mate. I just wonder what would happen if I write in French rather than Chinese.

    • Don't understand the neg lol

  • +2

is that the same as this model from Kogan? $379+ Postage

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-google-nexus-5x-32gb-white/?…

    • Other than the colour it certainly looks like it. Could be a good find….

      • Price match and then voucher?! :D

        • I don't think JB will price match kogan, also that one from kogan is probably the Hong Kong model, so no band 28 support (4g 700hmz) which some people will want.

        • @lyle88:

Sorry dumb question. Will band 28 make a big difference with calls or mobile internet?

        • +1

@tradiesunited: I don't think calls will be affected. Mobile internet I think will depend on your carrier. I believe Telstra and Optus use band 28 for their 4G network. you should read the specs from the Kogan advert to check what bands it supports, then Google what bands your mobile network provider uses. Don't quote me on this though..

  • +1

Just wanted to say, the SnapDragon 808 that I am using in my LG G4 honestly performs worst than Snapdragon 800. My Xperia Z1 runs Pokemon Go alot better than the G4, with the device heating up after a while (probably can't find location properly) and then experiencing quite some lag throwing a pokeball (this does not happen on the Z1).

    • +1

Yes unfortunately, 808 is only a mid-ranger, strange that LG decided to have 808 on their flagship G4.

I was disappointed with Nexus 5x poor performance with only 2gb Ram, and switched to Nexus 6P instead.

I am again switched to Galaxy S7, and even though S7 is such a performer, I now miss 6P's large screen, long battery life and solid metal body, which made it feel really premium.

    • +2

Screen resolution is a big difference between those phones. Qhd has almost double the number pixels of a fhd screen. I am using a Xiaomi phone with a lousy snapdragon 430 and it gets similar frame rates in games as a G4 or older s800 powered devices with fhd screens.

  • -8

    Underpowered.

  • +5

Got this phone from eBay for $356, plays Pokemon GO like a boss, zero slowdowns and battery is awesome on stock.

  • Embarrassing question, but how would the camera on a phone like this go taking snapchat selfies/self videos, including in the evening? Currently have an Elephone P6000 and it's terrible for this.

    • +5

Sounds like an interesting sideline of work you have there of an evening……

    • +1

Try white lighting instead of red.

    • +1

It's actually pretty great in low light, which makes it great for snapchat. It lags at times, and crashes (as usual in android), but the low light capability especially with front facing camera is really good on snapchat (even better if you use the pseudo flash). Source: I've owned one since Feb.

      • Cheers!

  • +1

I would have bought this if I didn't order the ZUK Z2 from AliExpress last night.

    • The ZUK Z2 is way better.

      • How is it?! I was looking at this the other day. Seems like a good deal for $400. Good size battery and 4g+3g dual sim right?

        • On paper, looks amazing. Great screen, top shelf SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, good cameras, USB-C, and a nice big battery. Amazing for the price.

Yep, but band support won't be great.

  • Oh

  • On ebay some of the Nexus 5X 32 GB models are selling for $1400-$1500. I can't make out any difference between the models except the price.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Google-H790-Nexus-5X-Black-32GB-1…

Any idea why such a huge price difference?

    Thanks in advance.

    • +6

I think people do this when it's temporarily out of stock, to deter anyone from buying it

  • Thanks a lot OP. Almost bought one last night at mobileciti for $519. Don't really want to risk a grey import for a mobile. My galaxy note 4 died a few days ago.

  • +1

For those considering this phone you can also consider the Moto G4 Plus for $356 for local stock (Office works price matching mobileciti).

Great camera, with bigger screen bigger battery and expandable storage. Similar performance. Only negatives are lack of compass and NFC. But the advantages more than made up for it.

Hope that helps someone out there as I spent many hours comparing the two phones.

    • Moto G4 Plus sounds interesting, also newer than 5X.

For similar price, I would be more tempted to go for 5X, which has that Nexus premium with it.

Also 16gb version is only 2gb ram, whereas 32gb version comes with 3gb ram.

      • No issues here with 2gb RAM. And it's $91 cheaper :)

    • Thank you Dajackal, I just made use of this offer after my LG G4 died! Price match came down to $358, which is great for local stock. Phone has dual sim and ( what I wanted ) a MicroSD slot.

I have never used the compass or NFC, so I guess I won't miss it ( at least not in the next two years ).

At first they didn't want to price match, saying it was a grey import. When I showed them that it is a sore in Parramatta, they agreed to match.

      • Glad you liked it mate! I came from the LG G3 that died from bootloop.

Out of curiosity how does the camera on the Moto compare to the LG G4?

        • I think my LG G4 camera was the best one so far with different options to choose from and professional settings. The Moto G4 camera is still better than other phone cameras from 2-3 years ago I find and is doing a great job. As an amateur with mainly auto-shots I can't complain ( even has laser autofocus ).

      • My LG G4 died Monday night, replaced it tonight with Moto G4 plus $345 from HN
