    M-JPEG, 640x480, 3.6mm lens.

Without doubt, you're gonna be really disappointed with these.

    • +1

no way you could Monitor anything with that resolution.

      • +3

        Yeah you can..
640x480 was watched happily by billions of viewers for decades on broadcast TV.
        It's perfectly fine.
Hell, VHS was only something like 320 lines!

I've been baby monitoring at home and on holiday for 3+ years with my cheapie..
The biggest disappointment is the audio quality…
That prompted me to buy a genuine FOSCAM (also 640x480) unit which has a bit less video noise (clearer picture) and significantly better audio.

Personally (albeit about double the price!) I think the genuine camera is worth the extra.

        • I have been using a Tenvis branded that looks identical to this one with identical specs and similar price in my 3 years old son's room since his birth. Although the resolution is not high, when I digital zoom on my son i'm able to see his chest movements while he is breathing in his sleep even in the dark.
My only complaint with my Tenvis is the terrible audio and the occasional freezes/restarts

    • Lol I went looking for a twin, but even that one is 720p for $36 (albeit from an average seller)

Nonetheless, $45 for that res is crazy!

    • +2

      Which pixel is the intruder??

    • I personally wouldn't go with anything less than 720p for monitoring as you won't be able to make out faces clearly if needed. Fork out a little more and get the Xiaomi Home Cameras.

      • I've got 2 Xiaomi Ants cams & I didn't pay <$au40 for either of them.

        • You can pick the US version for for ~AU$65 from GeekBuying with a coupon.

  • +1

Th postage is unreasonable especially when you try purchase more then 1 unit.

    • Postage kills the deal.

      • That's what they just said.

  • These days we need at least 720P, H.264 , SD card slot.

If it is $30 shipped it should be around this price from China with these spec

    Save: $150.00(83%)

Who will pay this even when it first come out

    • You wont find a PTZ camera for much less!

  • +2

but can't complain for the price.

just because something is cheap, doesn't make it a bargain…

    • +1

      It's not even cheap

      • So it's not cheap, and it's not a bargain…

Why has it been posted then?

        • That, you have to ask the Op. I believe he/she thinks it's cheap/bargain

Wireless IP Network Security Camera WHITE - suitable for Baby Monitoring

    Really?
Wi-fi is 100% safe on new-borns and babies?

    • +1

      Someone's been watching Catalyst.
The show's been pulled., the presenter Dr Maryanne Demasi has been stood down.
      Dodgey science

      • -1

I have no idea what show you're talking about. Best not to make presumptions.

The science out there is far from fully understood but it sure seems babies absorb far more than adults. As usual, sheep downvote rather than discuss. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z99_SzoXZdY

        • Does it come with a healthy dose of windfarmismitis and autism too? If so, BARGAIN!

        • +1

          I don't neg for comments I don't agree with :-)
But 1 minute of sun exposure is more radiation then you get standing 5m from a router (running at the max output of 100mW) for a whole year. These camera's run about 25mW (mW = milliwatt), you're not close to them for a whole year.

If you're really worried, you just mkove it back a bit. because power (radiation, electrical, etc) is a distance squared thing. so doubling the distance means the pwoer drops by square root of the power. e.g. if wifi radiation at 1m it's 100mW, at 2m it's 10mW, at 4m it's ~3.2mW.

Poeple like to make big deals out of these things, but when you look at the big picture, it's like adding 2 drops into the ocean instead of one. yes it's double, but overall it's bugga all.

          @Andoes:

Does it come with a healthy dose of windfarmismitis and autism too? If so, BARGAIN!

Oh what a hilarious comment. Ho, ho, ho.

Yes, I see you are qualified to give precisely the response you gave. It all matches. Kind of similar to those saying asbestos was safe 'cause they'd been using it for years "with no problems". And those lovely doctors endorsing smoking. Same sheep, same vested interests, different era.

@cheepwun: back to r/conspiracy you go buddy.

        • @Andoes:
back to ignoring people with decades in the field of microwaves, buddy. I love it how people who have incomplete knowledge can't fathom gaining more or perhaps saying that "yes, this might be the case" when their world-view is challenged. Predictably they respond with "conspiracy" and "tin-foil hat" comments, but this is all par for the course for the ignorant.

  • Here is a good 720p IP camera for $179 at Officeworks with youtude preview.

    • +1

For $179 of course it will be good.

    • Not fair comparing with such big price difference.
I bought a 720p Sricam from eBay for around $60. Video quality is ok but software part is a let-down.

      • There are always options to use different software

      • +1

No use buying 4 cheap crappy cameras and can't even identify the thieves who robbed your house.

        • can't even identify the thieves who robbed your house.

Found a picture from a similar camera from a recent break-in that someone posted on the crime watch website…

        • @jv: That is probably better than some cheapie cams could capture.

  • How about a cheap phone as a wireless camera?
Some cheapies even have wide-angle front cameras now, and sort of try to do HD video.
    Bonus built-in UPS.

    • Phones are no good in the dark..
Even with IR illumination they're pretty crap.

      • True. But you want security lighting anyway - the cheap security cams are also not good in low light - you need big sensors and lenses for that.
