Optus $10 Starter Pack $2 at Coles

1570

Spotted this at my local Coles.
$2 for a $10 Optus Starter Pack, good for 1GB data or free data streaming with Spotify, Googleplay music… Probably nationwide. Happy porting!

Edit: most of them will expire in 2018, hope this helps. It is longer than the on sale $10 Coles starter pack.

  • Can we use this for the $2 500mb/unlimited a day deal? Hoping to use it in the box thing.

    • +1

      Yes.

    • What box thing? Wi-Fi modem?

    • I have used it in a wifi modem.

What I would like to know is what happens when you reach the 500 megs in a day? will it stop working or will I be charged extra from the balance?

      • +2

Another $2 gets deducted and your limit get bumped to 1G. No more bump ups at 1G. It's in the plan critical data.

  • I bought a phone which I didnt realise was locked to optus (Stupid me I know). The unlock fee is $80 unless it I have an account which has had $80 recharges done on it. Could I use 8 of these cards to do that in a single day?

    • +1

Recharge voucher is different from starter pack mate.

      • Thanks for the reply … Bummer :(

    • Talk to bagman about unlocking it.

      • Beat you to it …but thanks.

Just got it through Bagman via https://www.unlockit.codes/

Took about 48hrs, but well worth the wait now that my wife has a shiny new unlocked phone and a smile on her face.

At $26.25 it was still a bargain over the $80 Optus unlock fee which they wouldn't do for me anyway. (Because I wasn't the original purchaser and she had washed her hands of me the second she took my cash!)

  • Got some from Tweed Heads last Friday for $2 each ( expiry 1/12/16 unfortunately ). Yesterday found heaps of stock in Ocean Shores Coles with a 2018 expiry, but to my surprise they scanned at $10 each, not the supposed Nationwide $2 till 6th September.

Anyone else with that experience?? Anyhow, looks like they are advertised as a $2 on sale this week starting Wednesday. Nothing lost.

      @ozhunter

Got one today on Sunshine Coast scanned ok ($10) then says
      *OPTUS $10 STARTER PACK 80% OFF (-$8.00)

so $2 worked ok and expiry is 01 JULY 2018

      • Thanks for the info. I went through a normal checkout, hence could not see the screen and took the convincing staff's word for it ( should never trust staff to be aware of all specials ).

  • Can someone please explain how this works? I'm coming out of a 2 year contract and just want something dirt cheap with s bit of data. Does it include calls and data or what ? I went in store and couldn't work it out :-(

    • This gives you a sim and $10 credit to activate on your Optus prepaid plan of choice. When credit is used up and/or expiry is used up just re-charge as you would any prepaid service. Just read up on choice of offers. Lot of people here getting these on the $2 a day just for the 500 MB data tethering per day for 5 days for the $2 ( $10 sim ). You also get unlimited calls and txt for that day too.

      • yes, but what are the plans?

  • +1

Got some at belmont wa, there were still 10 left.. Still scanned at $2

  • these are going half price might get like a buch of them

  • Not half price, that would be $5 each. These are $2 each now till next Tuesday, maybe longer @ Coles if you can find store with stock. Could be on till 6 th September.

  • hi, im a bit confused, some people have said to get the optus one, not the coles one as it offers 2.5 gigs of data which is what I'm after but the original message says only 1 gig of data? also how do I know how to get the optus one and not the coles one?

    • +1

There are two different offers. The Optus pack is yellow. The Coles mobile pack has a very busy design.

    • +1

With the Coles sim you get unlimited calls/txt and 1 Gig data to use over 10 days.

With the Optus sim, you can choose the prepaid plan as you like, and choosing $2 days could give you up to 2.5 Gig of data with unlimited calls/txt for 5 days only out of 30 days from activation. There are other plans available too for Optus prepaid. Check them out and choose what suits your needs best. Hope this helps.

  • Silly question re: prepaid plus and wifi hotspot. I have a Huawei 3g hotspot that I want to use Optus my prepaid plus on and off. Does the plan get activated as soon as I turn the hotspot on? I ask because when using the prepaid plus plan from a phone I could just disable data and make sure the $2 was not deducted.

    • As far as I know, these will only work in phones. If they work in pocket wifi, could you tell me how to activate as such, thanks.

      • Didn't think you needed to do anything different since activation is done online and AFAIK they don't discriminate between voice+data and data only devices once activated.

        • Really, did not know that. Tried with a Vodafone sim activated in phone and then in pocket wifi with no luck. Think chat told me I could not do it too. So your saying activate this Optus sim in phone and choose my offer, any data comes with offer I can just use in an Optus pocket wifi without changing anything then?

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Well that's providing the pocket WiFi isn't locked or something like that. Maybe there some other factor I don't know about.

        • @greenpossum:
Yes, of course unlocked. With some unlocked but other original carrier ( say Telstra or Voda ), even if using a data sim you had to re-set up and config with carriers data protocol with older pocket wifi. I will try using an Optus one to simplify.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Ah maybe it's the APNs or something like that? I'm so used to mobile phones handling all of that automatically.

        • @greenpossum:
Yeah, phones/carriers now do it automatically, not so some years ago. I stocked well up on these, even use a nice quick Optus 4G B28 capable phone as a dedicated tetherer for these $2 sims. Can keep track of data easy and set limits to warn me so I don't bump up to $4/1GB if not needed. Can check up to minute usage with the Optus App. Pocket Wifi often has better reception and speeds, but not always.

  • Quite a few at Dee Why Grand at the service desk, they even have a display box advertising the discount.

Just got 4 in one transaction through self-server at Coles Balwyn North. Still plenty in stock.

  • +1

Thanks picked one up, ten or so remaining at Garden City, Brisbane.

  • +1

Floreat has plenty of stock. needs staff authorisation if you go through self-checkout

  • If you select the $2 a day plan, then what I would like to know is what happens when you reach the 500 megs in a day? will it stop working or will I be charged extra from the balance?

    • +2

Another $2 gets deducted and your limit get bumped to 1G. No more bump ups at 1G. It's in the plan critical data.

      • OK, so what happens when you hit 1 gig? I hope it just stops working so then I know it's out and can load another sim

        • No more data I suppose. Probably get redirected to their recharge website and also get a text saying to recharge. But still good for calls and text.

        • I had hit 2.5GB in one day several times with several sims. What you need to do is texting MENU to 9999 and then choose 8 then 1 for buying more data.

        • +1

If you have an Android phone, you can set data limit in settings/data/usage/limit. Then you can get early warning and cut off/stop at say 450/470MB so you can finish off before the 500/1000MB.

      • +1

You can buy more data with $2 for 500MB in the same day as I mention below.

        • OK thanks, good to know. I'll have a hard time using up 500MB as it is though.

  • What would be the option with longest longevity?
I have a spare windows phone and saw the spotify data free with optus SIM (thanks for $1/3 months of Spotify from previous deal ). I went all primal Ozbargainer and jumped the gun only to realize it has only 5 days activity if I take the Daily Plus (not really willing to recharge $30 on it for Ultimate). Anyone knows if after the 5 days I could still listen to Spotify? or when wouldn't I be able to receive calls on that phone.

  • errr but what happens after the expiry?
