  • Website doesn't have the XPS 15 "On Sale" but does have the XPS 13 - good deal on the 13 for those that have missed previous offers.

    • It's still pretty steep for 256gb/8gb.

      • you can currently get 'as new' XPS15 i7 16GB RAM 512GBSSD from the dell outlet store for $2,499 (4 units available) compared to $2,999 RRP - representing 16.67% discount.

  • Brand new Asus UX360XA is on sale, seems like it review well

Last time they did this I saw an ASUS laptop suddenly $2-300 more. Comfortably wiping out the discount.

Yeah, fake sale. Dell Inspiron 7000 is 70 cents less than Dell online.

Thankfully I did a lot better than this at JB HiFi on Tuesday with a Dell Inspiron 11.6" 2-in-1 Touchscreen Laptop. They had it for $699, and I got them to match (very reluctantly) the Dell website price of $499 (29% off). A really nice little laptop with a great IPS screen (the colours stay pretty try even from some harsh angles compared to most laptops). A huge step-up from my 5 year old 10" netbook (not surprisingly) - I use it fairly infrequently and for some traveling.

It looks like Dell had a few of their older machines discounted significantly to make way for the new ones. In my case the old model had a far better screen, 3x USB 3.0 ports (vs 1 on the new model) and a full size SD card slot (vs a micro SD slot on the new model). So the $200 discount made it a bargain compared to the new model.

Dell still has the 11" 3000 2 in 1 advertised at $499 if anyone is interested in getting JB to price match.

    • I had just about decided to buy this last night, now cant find the older model. Only the newer model which is blue or red. It seems Dell really make it hard to know the actual model numbers of their laptops and its hard to differentiate between the old and new one.

    • Apparently it was an offer, and its now off. You must have been lucky to get it at that price! But if JB let you have it they should really let someone else have that price? unless you bought other stuff at the same time?

  • No it was the only thing I bought. I asked them to price match the special offer of the Dell site, so they may not give it to someone else. The Dell offer was up to 11/08/16 (yesterday). JB complained (the saleman referred it up to his manager, and disappeared for about 10 minutes) and said that they had sent Dell an email about this, but they gave it to me (Browns Plains, Brisbane). If they hadn't I would have just ordered it from Dell and waited the 2-3 days to get it.

Dell still has it listed, but it says "Call for latest prices", which means that you wouldn't get JB to price match because co price listed, but Dell may have an even better price if they are trying to clear old stock for the new (and far from improved) model. The actual model number (AFAIK) is Y511232AU and the i3 version (that JB still has for $798, maybe less the 15% ?) is the same but ends with a 3AU instead of 2AU.

There are a number of differences between the old and new - shape is different, obviously colours, old had IPS screen, new does not, old has 2x USB3 & 1x USB 2, and new has 1x USB and 2x USB 3, and old has a full size SD card slot, and new has a micro SD card slot. The old also has a Pentium N3700 CPU, and new has a N3710 CPU. The old has a 128Gb SSD, whereas the new has 4 models, with 32Gb, 500Gb and 128Gb SSD. The old one has a 3 cell battery, and the new has a 2 cell. So the new model is cheaper (by $100) for the 128Gb SSD model, but (IMO) has taken a step backwards in many/most areas. About the only improvements are slightly smaller, colours, slightly faster CPU, but most other things are a step back.

Dell also had a couple of these listed on their outlet shop a few days ago, but nothing now, in fact, there are currently NO Inspiron laptops listed, which is a bit odd because earlier this week, there must have been 20, mainly 3000 series.
