Pioneer VSX930 7.2 Channel AV Receiver with Dolby Atmos, 4K Upscaling, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth $559.20 Posted @ DickSmith / Kogan eBay

560
C20DS

I purchased this Pioneer VSX930 receiver in the last Kogan 20% of eBay deal in June, so it went from $864 t0 $691.20 after the 20% off. It's now $559.20. The VSX930 is apprently the same as the VSX1130, except the front panel on the VSX1130 is metal casing against the VSX930 which is plastic. It has some decent reviews and I have it setup running great. The main reason I upgraded was to have the dual HDMI outputs.

VSX930: Kogan has for $699 or $849 here, http://www.excelhifi.com.au/vsx-930-k-home-theatre-amp-7.2-b…

  • Anyone had any updates on their order?

    • Not yet, but I'd allow a couple of days. They're practically shifting one an hour, so might be busy?

    • Got shipping confirmation this evening.

      • Got mine earlier today.

        • Same, tracking # received 10 minutes after my last post.

    • Thanks guys, I got mine earlier too.

  • Yeah mine just shipped today

  • Awwww yiss, on for delivery today (Melb) :D

    • Lucky boy, mine is at the warehouse about 5min drive away, but i'm not allowed to just go and pick it up.

      • I was thinking I would have to wait another day based on past deliveries, got lucky this time.

I think I may have got a little Karma back after the weekend :D

    • +1

      Have fun setting up!

  • OK - In Hand and took a look.

These ARE grey imports, brought in from Europe as mine came with a European Cable.

Edit: Looks like a C13 to Aus GPO cable will work fine too.

You WILL NEED a C17 to Aus GPO cable which is what was used on some Xbox 360's and Subwoofers etc OR a Euro 2-Prong adapter.

    • That is not good news that it's grey import. Seems obvious in retrospect though.

    • Mine came with the Australian and European cable so check your box

      • Nope, just euro.. strange..

        • Could be two batches - did seem like they ran out and then some came from Kogan right?

Aside from the cable anything else indicating a European source? Does it have an RCM / C-tick? If yes, it doesn't prove it's Australian (as they all might have it) but if it doesn't then it's not going to be Australian stock.

        • @Shonky:

There's a sticker on the box that makes it seem very likely haha

        • @XeKToReX:
That's not really definitive though. Depends who resealed it. Kogan/DS Online or Pioneer. If the latter it would be classed as Australian stock. Sounds like when they modified yours, they forgot to modify it for the Australian wall socket…

  • I think this is pretty easy to clear up that these units are Australian Stock with a 3 year warranty. As per the same item listed on the Dick Smith and Kogan websites.

    Same on Kogan website; https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/pioneer-72-channel-av-receiver-…

  • Can anyone confirm if these are indeed Australian stock?

EDIT: I called the Dick Smith hotline to confirm that it IS Australian stock and is therefore covered for 3 years - they will also supply a Dick Smith Invoice, not just a generic eBay/PayPal one.

Can people who have purchased please confirm what they received? Dick Smith Invoice? Warranty Card? Australian cable?

    • Is there GST on the invoice?

    • Didn't receive a tax invoice with mine.

      • Can you send me a message I am a novice with this stuff.

      • Looks in fantastic condition haha!

I will have to check the package of books in mine, but wasn't 'loose' in the box from what I remember.

    • I can vouch for this. I asked on eBay and got the following response:

      Hi,

      Thanks for contacting Dick Smith.

I can confirm that the Pioneer 7.2 Channel AV Receiver with Dolby Atmos, 4K Upscaling, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is Australian stock and will be delivered from our Australian warehouse.

  • So mine just arrived, wtf is this shit?

    http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/greencomet83/IMG_20160…

I shit you not, that is the included AU power cable they gave me…

Other than that everything seems fine.

    • Yeah that's pretty hopeless. Just go and find another (I have tons of spare ones from old gear) or buy one for less than $10 and move on with life.

      • Yeah I have a heap at home floating around, just made me cringe is all. lol

        • @xdreamyst: opened mine today. Also wrong cable. Euro one nicely packaged and wrapped up, Aussie one with incorrect figure 8 end thrown down the side loose. Australian stock my arse. Also had spare of the right one floating around, so not end of the world. But disappointing. Also the setup app is rubbish and after using it I can't seem to get the osd menu to work. Grr.

        • @salem:
Why do you care if it's Australian stock?

If it's because of warranty and the company putting the cable in is the official Australian distributor then for all intents and purposes it's Australian stock.

        • @Shonky:
I don't really care if it's Australian stock. But I do care about being told it is if it isn't. If the distributor put the cable in, they stuffed it up. I hope there is decent warranty with it, not too fussed if it's with dick smith eBay or the distributor.

    • That's not the right size!

      • Haha, I thought I accidentally threw that in when I re-packed it at work as I had one on my desk.

I got the same thing, pretty terrible lol

        • Another great customer service experience! I would contact them to correct this though, hope it doesn't affect everyone.

    • Interesting someone negged you for your experience and photo?

    • Opened mine today and received the incorrect cable too

  • Can someone please help me out. I am a complete novice to this audio visual setup stuff.

    I am looking to
    - have 5.1 surround sound in my lounge
    - have speakers in the alfresco
    - have speakers near pool area

Does the receiver support these areas being wired and playing different media
    - someone can watch tv while others are outside
    - only have speakers in alfresco only and not pool area

Could I have a second TV in my Alfredo connected to the speakers ?

I will really appreciate help with this.

I don't think it's fair I call up an audio visual retailer get there help and then buy from eBay.

    P

    • But it's ok if you ask here? ;)

Most lower end units like this one will only support two zones where you're actually looking for three. This unit has a 9 channel amplifier so 5 for the 5.1 surround (sub amp is in sub), and 2 can be used for an external zone. The other 2 can't be used for a third zone on this.

So you'd probably be best off looking for some speaker pad switches for you pool and alfresco zones and run them on the second zone. They couldn't have different sources though if played at the same time.

You could have a second TV on the second zone. But you don't need the TV though. The zone can be audio only (using the builtin amp as the this unit doesn't have pre-amp outputs for any zone) and often is audio only on the third and higher zone on higher end units.

      • Thanks Shonky I hear what you are saying. I appreciate your help.

  • So anyone got any good ceiling speaker recommendations and/or in-wall speaker wire recommendations to pair up with this?

  • +1

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006BMQT

These seminars to get great reviews and really reasonably priced.
Anyone have experience with them or have alternatives?

  • Has anybody received a damaged piece? I got mine today and checking it over there is a dent in the chassis on the top back right corner. I'll be contacting dick smith tomorrow to arrange a replacement. Hopefully they can replace it without too much hassle.

    • +1

mine had a hole punched in the side of the box that looked like the corner of another box had been rammed into it. thankfully it didn't penetrate far enough to reach the amp itself but I took photos of the box before unwrapping just in case.

  • Early days for ours and I haven't run any setups yet. So far, it's okay but I'm underwhelmed by it. My old Kenwood KRF-V5300D 5.1 currently sounds better. And that's supposedly lower-powered, uses two fewer speakers (I'm currently wired for 7.1) and is relatively simple to use.

Once my long cable arrives for the second sub and there's peace and quiet around here, I'll be running MCACC with the hope of dramatic improvement.

Mine lacks a bit of clarity…sounds muddy I suppose. Anyone have tips aside from the MCACC ordeal? I usually keep it in DD Surround mode.

  • What speakers are you using? I have an all Whardedale Diamond 5.1 setup, 9.6 fronts and 10.1 rears and no issues, I have some new Diamond 220 for the rears coming. I use banana plugs and for normal listening I have always set to ext stereo. Also added in a new sub over the weekend, a wharefdale WH-10 and Dolby sound was great with a movie from foxtel running, I did re-run the MCACC after adding in, i would defintley be running the MCACC.

    • I've cycled through the modes during TV output, and EXT STEREO just sounds too bright, with not enough from the centre speaker unless I set that to +12 and the L-R to -tive values.

Tried the MCACC and the summary looked accurate for calculated distances. Minor adjustments to the speaker levels and it's a slight improvement. Will have to wait and see with my music tests.

      Thanks dandandan.

    • Speakers (doh) same as the last few years:
      L-C-R: Accusound 6.6XD
      Top L-R: Tannoy subsats (6ohm)
      Rears: Genexxa Pro X5
      Sub: Sony SA-W2500 10" (from a 2014ish deal here)

They were mostly fine with the Kenwood, was good up to 70% volume but anything higher was a struggle from the fronts especially. I felt they could handle a bit more, and it's better now.

The setup here is a very deep one. Will take a while.

  • With all respect and not having heard the accusound speakers myself, I would say they may be part of the problem? In saying that the sub I swapped out on the weekend was an accusound! and the wharedale WH-10 was a major step up. Do you have a friend with some reasonable bookshelf speakers you can try out? not sure where you are located but keep an eye out on some second hand wharfedale's or other reasonable brands. I only know the wharfedales but I am sure there is others who know some more. For example http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wharfedale-Diamond-9-1-Speakers-B…
