FYI these are $338 new from JB Hifi and are supposed to come equipped with a 1-yr office subscription.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/asus/asu…

There is also a 4GB ram variant.

32GB emmc and 2GB RAM is ok for very, very casual usage, but from my experience with a machine of this caliber, Windows updates and feature updates for office chew up precious storage space and the 2GB RAM limitation means no more than 5 tabs open in Chrome at any one time, unless you like lag.

Typing on said machine now and using PaleMoon with adblock origin and a few extensions, plus Avast in background + F.lux active, 63% of RAM has been used up. Barely enough left for more apps.

It's a 2gb machine so really more targetted at people moving up from a phone as their internet device and you get a bigger screen.

Ok if people are into browsers viewing video and using cloud apps.

Probably 32 bit windows like alof of other similar devices made to compete with Chromebooks .

        It has 64bit Windows.

  • Whats the point of it having a certain USB variant and being worth over $300. Aren't they all similar, charging and data transfer?

According to the page, having USB-C, with it's compact design, allows the laptop to be thinner. That seems irrelevant if it also has USB2 and USB3 slots.

  • •32GB eMMC SSD & Micro SD Slot to upgrade storage

    Does this mean
32GB eMMC. SSD & Micro SD Slot to upgrade storage
    or
32GB eMMC SSD. & Micro SD Slot to upgrade storage

Does anyone know if the RAM is upgradable

    • Yes, DDR3L up to 8Gb. That's unlikely to benefit much with that CPU such a slow Celeron.

      • Going to 4Gb should help noticeably. Good luck opening this up though.

        • Doh!!! you're right eMMC, didn't' even think about that. lol Cheers for the correction, that have gone down well if they opened it up and already bought the ram.
