Goldair 2000W Micathermic Heater - $24 (Save $54) @ Masters

370

Looks like Masters have again dropped the prices of their heaters range, with this being a pick of the bunch.

Opted for this one as it gives instant heat and can heat quite a large room.

Other bargains also to be had including this 2000w Fan heater for just $8 https://www.masters.com.au/product/101053902/Goldair-2000W-F…

  • It's showing out of stock for me.

    • Other stores have stock.

  • "Gives instant heat". Also gives instant heart attack when you see your electricity bill.
Gas or mechanical refrigeration is the way to go.

93.21% of people buying the thing already know that, sadly they live in houses without gas as an option.
:/ I got no choice but to use something similar to that thing, I got an Aldi one for about $70 that looks similar - it's got a big glass pane , a little remote control AND THE LOUDEST MOST ANNOYING BEEP EVER WHEN ADJUSTING THE SETTINGS - but it works well enough.

      • Oil column heaters are better if you have to use an electric heater.

        • I'd agree with you 15 years ago. Nowadays the oil column heaters weigh 17x less, have SUPER THIN fins and just seem like cheap crap. Bugger all oil inside them.

Also I've seen some smart physics guys talking about electric heaters, they are a simple formula or some such - electricty in = heat out or something, there's only so efficient they can be.

        • Oil column heaters not instant heat. You have to wait for a while.

        • Why are they any better though? They take time to warm up and for the most part just have hot air come out the top via convection leaving the space near the roof warm and the air near the floor cold.

I would expect something with a fan to do a much better job in a room. (assuming you had to use a non reverse cycle electric heater)

All of these heaters essentially put out as much heat as the energy input they consume you don't get more or less efficient models.
Radiant heaters can be good in certain situations, outdoors on a deck or in a wet area when you dont really need to heat the air.

          @Duff5000:

I've owned an oil fin heater before and I can guarantee, the heating effect is far, far superior on a micathermic heater. You have the benefit of warm air plus radiant heat. I put it on a couple of hours ago and was warm and cosy within about 20 mins. Turn down the thermostat once you reach the desired temp and the heater switches off and on to maintain it.

Using your argument, the same wattage oil heater will use the same electric but takes much longer to heat the room to the desired temperature therefore costs more.

Why are you saying that to me? Not once did i say for anyone to get an oil heater.

Please quote what part of my reply you are talking about, I am not even sure what you are trying to say.

To get X amount of heat with any of these electric heaters will cost you the same. Oil isn't more or less efficient.
I asked "ANLagonda" why they thought oil was better and gave a reason why i thought they were not a good idea.

          @gooddealmate:
100% electricity in = 100% energy output as heat for any heating micathermic or oil fin.

Lightbulb is a good comparison for inefficiency.
100% energy in and the output is both heat and light.
I think you would be comparing variances in heating times based on the surface area of each hearing unit.

  • Not familiar with micathermic. But the one in this deal, will it glow with red, which can be seen when it is turned on? Sort of like this?

I have a heater that glows so uncomfortably bright when on, from Kmart or some such, that I prefer not to use anymore. Thanks for feedback.

Just set mine up.. no it doesn't glow at all.

Very happy with it. Great that it is double sided, can heat 2 people sitting on separate sofas with ease. Gives off plenty of heat too.

Thanks very much, for posting and this info. Yeah, just came back with one too, the cust service personnel there very kindly offered to hook it up for me to check. Doesn't glow and looks really value for money. Very happy.

  • Thanks just in time for Melbourne winter. Bought the small tower heater with remote for the study to keep my feet worm while sitting on the computer chair and the micathermic heater as well.

    • +3

It's been cold for at least two months now ;)

    Pretty useless without remote control.

    • Remote control would sure have been a huge plus, but Micathermic Heater for $24, its a bargain!

      • -2

This heater RRP $78 without a remote is a joke. 3 years ago, I bought a 3 setting heater with remote from Aldi for a low $35 and still in excellent conditions.

  • Link says price only valid in the Chullora store. How would I go about checking stock in other stores? I don't see an option.. it just says out of stock.

    • Change location - to another store.

  • Use CashRewards for 2% cashback and pay using Wish Card for further 5% discount to bring it down to $22.32

  • I had a cheap Micathermic Heater from catch of the day a few years back but it emitted the most obnoxious toxic smell even after I left it turned on outside for several days. Had to send it back in the end. We ended up with a panel heater from Target which was pretty cheap, didn't stink and low wattage so super cheap to run. But like others said heaters are all equally efficient at turning electricity into heat so a low wattage heater means low heat output. But we live just over the NSW/QLD border so winter only arrives for a few days a year…better to invest in a decent doona

  • managed to get one from northlakes. Thanks OP

  • Thanks. Bought the Tower heater with remote and a backup Fan heater for another $8.
