  • The lowest I can get it down to is $1453.76

    • this price is the standard 12.1". To get down to 1081, you have to select LED screen. but for tablet i think you want the Multi-Finger Touch LED backlit WXGA Panel which make it to 11XXonly which is not bad as well.

      • Yeah figured that out.
And yes that screen would have to be the better choice.

        • by selecting the LED screen, i still have 1453.76.
how did you get it down to 1081?
          Thanks!!

          • @iloveLucas: Select this screen to get your base price:

12.1" WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing Angle

Then apply the coupon, the start price is $1818 and selecting that screen drops it to $1352 then the coupon gives you 20% off that

            • @markis10: thanks, i got that. but i missed the deal as they remove X200 from the web……..WTH

  • I got it down to $1081

    • How?
      Edit:
Nevermind I figured out how, I didn't change the screen to the cheaper one. Down to $1081.80

      • Whats the difference on the cheaper screen?
12.1" WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing Angle [subtract AU$466.18]

12.1" WideView Multi-Finger Touch LED backlit WXGA Panel [subtract AU$318.45]

        12.1" WideView Standard WXGA panel

Its not touch screen? The second one might be better? extra $150? LED panel means what?

        • The cheapest screen is single touch.

          • @markis10: but whats the difference between

            12.1" WideView Standard WXGA panel

            and
12.1” WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing Angle

            the difference is $466

The middle one already states multi-touch. The only difference I can see is LED? I thought LED was good?

  • hey.. so what's so good about these things that made them worth $4000 in the first place? (serious question).

    • Tablet, lightweight, long battery life, and supposedly thin.

    • Solid build, fantastic battery life and fast processor for what is a very small computer, worth $4K, not IMHO, but worth more than $1200 with the 8 cell battery! I had the predecessor and got 10 hours on that battery.

  • +1

This makes the ipad look like a complete rip off.

    • +2

      Thats because it is :P

    • -1

it is…think about this you cant work on ipad at all…so no point its a itouch with integrated ebook reader…this laptop actually allows you to work

      • -1

thats what i'd have said before i got one. consider this guys, the applet is 680grams, 10+hrs battery life on wifi, while being able to remote desktop, read chm/pdf and other ebook formats.

cant really compare a normal computer to it. they serve very different needs

  • Anyone know the dimensions of this thing?

  • In mm scale, 295 x 257 x 33.3 ( at the thickest) with the 8 cell.

  • +1

I won't buy the iPad if I saw this earlier.

    • +5

      So… you bought one? facepalm

    • shame… You are now under the power of the Mighty Steve.

  • Some good savings for someone after one of these.

  • is it a good deal? seriously no idea …

  • i suppose you can option it with the non touchscreen

but what's the use of a tablet PC with a PEN with a non touchscreen???

    • +1

It still has a 'touchscreen' you just can't use a finger with it and need the pen to interact. =.=

    • +1

pen-based tablet PCs have been around for easily a decade. They use wacom-style digitizers and are excellent for handwritten text entry and sketching, which is what finger-based touchscreens are poor for. That's probably why tablets have only ever been used heavily in fields like health care where entering information by hand can be more intuitive than typing alone.

(a digitizer isn't a touchscreen - it only responds to the pen, so you can safely rest your palm and anything else on the screen while you write)

  • i wanted the x301. what happened to it? i don't see it no more. and any idea when there would be another sale? hopefully its not just once (ending financial year time).

  • Awesome deal!
Though what did happen to the x301 tablet?

  • +1

to be fair this unit is about TWICE the price of the average Ipad…

    • yeah very true. Funny how Its the other way around. Apple should have been bitched about been too expensive.

    • +2

you do realize this does WAY more than a keyboardless walled-garden tablet with limited computing power?
they're two different things serving two different markets. Would you compare a truck to a tractor?

      • you also realise that this has a crappy OS that was not designed for touch screens, needs a fast processor and lots of memory, and that is a real pain to use?

though if you don't use it for a tablet most of the time, it is a good deal. thinkpads are nice machines.

    • +5

Ipad is a toy and fashion accessory.

Thinkpad is a workhorse and professional tool.

  • -1

and whats stopping some one from signing up for 3 year accidental damages and claming a new laptop in couple of years?.

    • the same thing stopping you from writing off your car/burning down your house and claiming insurance on a new one?

      • lol bad examples - car or house would cause too much life chaos compared to 'damaging' a tiny laptop

  • it's morally wrong and normally i would be all for it but strangely i don't feel like doing that to lenovo

    dell on the other hand…

  • +1

Nice price for a touch screen ultraportable. If I had not bought the Thinkpad Edge 13 I would probably go for this one… by the way if anyone is interested, the Thinkpad Edge 13 is now selling for $657 only with an Intel SU7300 CULV processor, which is a great deal too. I upgraded to 2gb ram and 6cell battery and it only cost $730.

  • +1

God damn, tablets are overpriced if they go for $4K+ normally.

This brings it back down into the realm of reason.

  • anyone knows about warranty? is this 1 year international warranty? can i purchase international warranty?

    • If you go through the configuration you will be given warranty option on the third page, it is an international warranty for a year as the entry option.

  • HELP…Which one should I choose?
Win 7 Home Premium 32 or 64 or XP tablet PC preinstalled?

    • -1

Windows 7 of course. If you think you will uprade the RAM to 4 GB later, choose X64. Otherwise leave it at 32 bit.

Why use XP, ancient OS, and the user interface isn't as polished for touch as W7 is.

      • +1

W7 is known for poorer battery life at present, it made an hours difference to my battery life on my X300 so I went back to XP, as battery life is important to me on the road.

        • I decided to choose 8 cells

        • Actually i find the opposite, i get better battery performance from win7 on almost any laptop i use

      • Thanks for info..

Does it improve the performance by upgrading RAM to 3GB with Win 7 32bit?

        • Depends on your usage. 2 GB is enough to run a few apps comfortably without performance issues, but if want to multitask, more RAM always helps.

  • +5

Comparing this to an ipad is like comparing apples to oranges. The products are made for 2 different segments.
This weighs more than twice an ipad; also touch screen is not as responsive. It is of-course a more versatile computer. But I doubt one can enjoy same level of usability(specially with regards to touchscreen, weight and apps) with this.

    • +1

I like comparing apples to oranges, because I HATE apples (Apple, geddit lolol).

  • Am I missing somthing I can only find the X201 on the webpage, thanks

  • Anyone compared this to the HP TM2?

I looked up the Lenovo X200 and it seems 1 year old already, X201 is the newer model but works out about $1500 for basic features…

  • Omg forgot to use mbc!!!!!

    Could have saved another $84

    • Can you use Moneyback Co to link to the Affinity website? I think you can only access the general lenovo.com.au site through MBC?

      • Hmm you are right it doesn't work.

Oh well good deal. Got myself one

        • Affinity is 15% off the public pricing, so you are already ahead!

    • +1

This has to be the lamest reason for giving a negative EVER

      • +3

Have you looked at spyborgs posts, hardly bargains themselves LOL

    • +2

Prepare to get downranked into oblivion.

    • +1

what the hell? this is definitely a bargain whether or not you think the product is for you.

  • Is the Digitizer Pen included, or you have to buy one as an extra? I can see it's listed for over $70…

    • I'm pretty sure its an extra. It is a tablet after all 1xpen should be included.

      • Thanks for the reply. I am also wondering about the differences between the processors in the two available models. Is there any significant advantage with Intel Core i7-620LM Processor in X201 over the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor (2.13GHz).
        Thanks in advance

        • All the Core i7 processors are Native Quad cores (4 cores), which means that they actually have 4 cores on a single die, while the older Core 2 Duo processors like the Q6600 (2×2 = 4 cores) had two cores on a single die, and two such dies merged together. This increases the processing speed greatly. They also have 256 KB L2 cache per core and a shared 8 MB L3 cache which has proven to be much better than any cache configuration in Core 2 Duo.

You want see much difference in the two in reality using real world software though (I used to work for Intel).

          • @markis10: Thanks, mate! That clarifies things.

          • +1

@markis10: I'm pretty sure not all Core i7's are quads

            • @qazwsx: Yeah the low voltage and the ultra low voltage versions are dual core, but all the standard voltage versions are quad core.

            • @qazwsx: This particular model is not - it has 2 cores only but has 4 threads which helps buffer the cpu to maximize utilization.

Speed wise it is slightly faster than the SL9400 cpu at little if any power cost (maybe even a slight power saving). The SL9400 is rated at 17w, the i7 620 cpu is rated at 25w but also includes chipset + graphics.

              • @voter1: The comments on the difference were non specific and were more family versus family, and I had a typo in my reply, I meant to say "you wont see much difference in the two CPUs in the real world"!

  • Anyone knows whats the delivery time like? I am going overseas in a week.

    • from memory, it takes bout 10 days.
p/s. if it arrives earlier,u could probably try claiming gst back ;)

      • Delivery with lenovo takes an age in my experience. When I bought a x200t a while ago it took a good month. Almost cancelled the damn order.

    • I'd say…you'd see it when you get back. =S I LOVE my ThinkPad, but I had to wait nearly a month for it to arrive.

  • Looks very good but I'm also looking at the Asus EEE PC T101MT. Cheaper (can be found for less than $750 - iPad territory), smaller and lighter.
The things I like about the Lenovo is the battery life (you can't change batt. on T101MT) and the processing power. It's really got me thinking, but I think I'll stick with the cheaper T101MT (after all, it's just to put some uni stuff on).

    • Asus has actually really good specs, especially considering that it's nearly half price of the Thinkpad. The only issue for me is the small screen size of the EEE - I already have one and sometimes it's really not that great for MS applications, especially for Word. Lower resolution is also an issue…but then again…the price!

  • Hey guys,

Sorry for the really newbie question but I never own a laptop or thinkpad before, so what I want to know is what are the parts that can be upgraded after purchase?

    RAMS? HDD? Graphics card? Processor?

If you could give me a list, that would be greatly appreciated! Also, it isn't hard to replace anything right?

    Thanks!

  • Is it just me or has X200 been taken down from the site? I no longer see it available for purchase even going through this link:
    http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auaffinity…

    • Umm interesting I can't find it either.

      • not available anymore,
        maybe due to large orders……

    • Yep, they got pissed off so many people were buying it - so it had to be removed from the list…These who missed out can always get the X201 - obviously it would not be cheaper (since it's still there). I love how big corporations think and act ;-)

  • -3

WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING…………..I WAS GOING TO CHECK OUT BEFORE I GO TO WORK THEN I WAS LIKE maybe i will configure again when i come back….NOW ITS GONE…….CRYING MY HEART OUT FKKKKKKKK MEEE

    • LOL ah well, what can you do.

There'll be more to come. Unless you really needed the touch screen I don't think you missed out too much.

      • true, touchscreen was just a bonus…but 1k for the ultraportable i am very very very NOT WANT TO MISS….T.T

        • Then don't think next time act faster :)

  • LOL I also missed out the Acer 3810T $499 deal last time, so I know how you feel…haha…you may consider what I ended up with, a Thinkpad Edge 13 for less than 800…

  • Lenovo's version of bait and switch?

    • Can't say "bait and switch" like Dell as Lenovo didn't jack up the price and cancel the orders.

      • I didn't say like Dell I said Lenovo's version of bait and switch. Ad a product, then when most people are able to take a look switch it over so that only the more expensive one is available, or hope that people will continue to browse and buy other items.

        • Well they can't sell you if they run out of stock. They pull it off isn't that a good thing? Or you want them keep the promo active and can't fulfill and cancel orders next day?
I like to mention Dell there so people remember their fiasco as I'm boycott DELL.

    • Hmm, all the prices on the X201 have increased as well.

  • Can anyone tell me if the cheapest 12" LCD is touch capable?

I picked the cheapest option and yea I hope it does. If it doesnt no worries.

    On my order it says:
Display type 12.1" WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing Angle

    • It is still a touch screen but without multi finger touch so you can only use the pen to touch. Still very cheap though.
