  • How can it be dual channel if the ram sticks are 8GB and 4GB? Strange

      • No they don't. That's a completely different scenario. To run memory in dual channel the amount of memory installed in each channel MUST be the same. That guy is talking about 4+8 in each channel i.e. 12GB per channel for 24GB total. This is 4 in 1 channel and 8 in the other meaning 12GB total and single channel operation only.

You will lose half the memory bandwidth, for the sake of higher capacity. Graphics may suffer slightly, will you notice in day to day use? Unlikely… HD 520 wasn't made for gaming.

  • Thinking about buying this for my parents, seems like a good deal - they need a solid, lightish work laptop. Any strong feelings either way?

    • +1

The specs are pretty good if you dont plan to play games on it. Besides that the reviews are also good. I bought one for myself.

  • How is this one compare to this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262078

    • Depends on your needs. The Lenovo has great specs too but it's not touch screen so you can use it as a Tablet. The dell is also top of the range and hence the build quality is pretty good(Fully Aluminium). The Lenovo does have a dedicated graphics card though if you want to play some games.
The Dell has more ram and has an 512GB ssd which IMHO better than 1 TB HDD. There is however a $450 difference .

  • So tempting, but with the latest Nvidia mobile cards announced, I think it's worth waiting til next generation

  • Whatever the case, they cheaped out bigtime by not putting 2x8
