NASA Makes All Scientific Research Available FREE

4580

NASA has just announced that any published research funded by the space agency will now be available at no cost, launching a new public web portal that anybody can access. The free online archive comes in response to a new NASA policy, which requires that any NASA-funded research articles in peer-reviewed journals be publicly accessible within one year of publication source

Does it include area 51 research on extraterrestrial life forms

    • +3

      Thats the UAF unfortunately =(

    • +1

The conclusion is that Russia dropped pig carcasses from an aluminum air balloon to cause hysteria.

    • +2

Its free access to research articles published in peer reviewed journals (which are already available to public but paid per article, subscription or through university's subscriptions).

      So nothing classified!!
I doubt any classified research done by NASA themselves would be published in journals.
So no Area 51, moon landing……………..

    • +2

      Nope, OP lied, deal reported.

    • "any published research"

Only if the Area 51 research you are interested in is already published…

    • Oh god I hope not

      alienlivesmattertoo

  • +29

Can I see the moon landing set?

  • -8

Where can I view all those moon rocks they bought back ? Oh, that's right, they all went missing.

    • Huh?

      • In a glass cabinet in Berkeley.

    • +3

I hear you brother. I'm trying not to panic but ONLY 25000 MOON SAMPLES LEFT!

      • Yeh but as any good conspiracy theorist knows if they did land on the moon why couldn't we see them?

  • +11

Love NASA. Love free research. Not negging the "deal" but I am asking is this a bargain?

    • +20

but I am asking is this a bargain

Yes !! TA has been in contact with NASA Rep. This is NASA's Debut on Ozbargain

Next NASA deal will be : FREE moon soil sample

    • +1

This is a out of the world deal, so yes

    • +1

It is quite a bargain for anyone interested. Usually research papers cost and/or are hard to obtain. I'm sure anyone who needed them could have simply contacted NASA and requested the papers for free, though that's quite a process.

In other words, the service and library/database format is more the bargain rather than the content it's self.

      • +2

Hubble telescope data is also free and has been for decades but it should not be posted as a bargain.

        • -1

          has been for decades

If it has being for decades then that's the normal price and indeed isn't a bargain. This on the other hand is rarely free (it's not often you see free public access to research findings inc. full papers) and therefore is a bargain.

        • @dyl:

Let me help you get better informed:
          http://arxiv.org/

"Open access to 1,175,980 e-prints in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Quantitative Biology, Quantitative Finance and Statistics"
There you go. They're pre-prints but usually close if not identical to the final paper submitted.

If you Google "free scientific papers" without the quotes you'll find a heap more in other areas.

Oh and if research papers aren't your thing check out NASAs existing archives. Images, mission reports, a whole wealth of knowledge there for everyone to use and enjoy.

  • +2

Here come all the conspiracy theorists lol

    • you mean the ones whom think we never made it to the moon? lol

      • +2

And the ones who think the earth is flat

      • -3

apparently there is wind on the moon

        • +2

yes and apparently the reason we have not returned to the moon is because aliens warned us not to. :)

        • -1

          @siggy213:

because aliens warned us not to.

The rumor is it was Darth Vader

        • +3

          @siggy213:
Better play it safe …..I've seen mars attacks. It doesn't end well.

      • -2

Moon conspiracy nutters drive me insane. The arguments put forward are completely nutty.

The only conspiracy I am talking about here is the conspiracy to publish a non-bargain.

      • +1

You know, if you don't know how to use "whom", it's fine, no one is going to think you're stupid, just never use it. If you're going to use "whom" though, use it correctly. In this instance, the "who" are the subject, therefore, "who" is correct, not "whom".

        • +1

Lol Iphones auto functions doing but thanks for pointing it out since I didnt even notice the typo.

    • Who said Chem Trails?

  • +3
    • bummer.. I was thinking about this one! ROFL

        • +1

Have you decided to emigrate to America so you can vote for the Donald? This is the sort of rantings that the Trumpettes keep posting.

        • Whereas the right wing nutjobs and Ultra-Conservatives are so on the ball with their "healthy" skepticism…

        • -1

This was the simplest explanation I could find for why you are completely wrong but rest assured that even using the "raw" data, 2015 was the hottest year on record:

          http://arstechnica.com/science/2016/01/thorough-not-thorough…

  • +3

Someone should let Malcolm Roberts know about this.

    • +1

      I just pm'd him

      • Tor ?

    • +4

He's not interested. They've corrupted the empirical evidence

  • +3

Any research on jetfuel melting steel beams?

Studying Civil/Structural Eng, but unfortunately can't get anyone to pick on this research topic.

    • +3

Metal beams don't need to actually melt to become weak…

      Pick a different profession please…

      • +12

Not sure if trolling or not aware of the meme.

      • -2

When you get molten metal in a basement the steel hasn't just weakened

    • Check the beam's "Bending" moment diagram

    • -1

      Only if you include thermite…

      • +1

        Or have a bending robot.

  • -1

As @easternculture & @RedSky mentioned, I wanna see all the research data/images/videos related to Area 51, the moon landing, plus aliens etc. If those aren't included then I ain't interested.

  • +1

Don't let any government officials see the climate studies!! The facts on climate change will make their heads pop.

  • FYI you can also get their 1976 Graphics Standards Manual for free. https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/nasa-graphics-standards-m…

  • +1

Any photos of the Hollywood moon set?

    • +2

copyright is owned by universal studios

  • Can we see the non corrupted data on climate research?

    • Probably not but there's plenty of free information and discussion which might help to overcome your ignorance if that helps. Here's a good starting point: http://www.skepticalscience.com/

Feel free to ask them any questions you like or take part in the online debate if that's your wont.

  • Can we see ET?

  • Any useful stuffs? Or just some craps of the day?

  • +3

    How much usually?

  • its all corrupted/manipulated data anyway ;)

    • doesn't this apply to ALL research

      • +1

But if you look of the body of work as a whole, the corruption averages out!

  • You know, i've never met anyone who actually still believed the moon landing was a conspiracy…

So, is the conspiracy really that theres a conspiracy the moon landing was faked?

    • According to wiki, 6 to 20 percent of Americans believe the moon landing was faked:

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_landing_conspiracy_theo…

I too am surprised how many people think it was a hoax. Especially since they took photos of the Apollo flags they left there in 2012.

      • Well according to a short clip some Americans think Triangles have 4 sides and Australia is actually North Korea. So I am not surprised.

    • You should meet my father, he firmly believes that the Russians landed on the moon first.

      • +1

Reminds me of an old joke, apologies if you've heard it before:

"Houston, Tranquility base here. We've just discovered that the Russians are here too, and they're painting the moon red!"
"Tranquility base, message received. We expected this. Report back if anything changes."
        A day or two later:
"Houston, status update. The Russians have finished painting the moon red."
"Tranquility base, open storage locker 7L, you'll find supplies of white paint. Write 'Coca-Cola' on the moon."

        • awwwwwwwwwwww daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddd

  • +5

Checked CamelCamelCamel and it appears this is the cheapest NASA research has ever been.

I picked up two for myself and one for the missus.

    • That's pretty greedy, it's everyone's research sir.

  • +1

With all due respect to TA who posts some awesome deals here but shouldn't this be in the forums? This isn't really a deal let alone a front page one.

    • I thought freebies were considered as deals, no? Don't know. That's what I always thought.

  • +6

Aaron Swartz would have loved this.

  • I bet NASA really had bargain hunters in mind when they made this deal.

    • maybe NASA's new CEO is an ozbargainer

    • +3

      Malcolm is that you?

      • +2

        It's Robert…

      • +1

Ahh… As in Turnbull? Ideologically he's probably the most environmentally progressive Prime Minister we've ever had.

        • +1

As in Roberts, I think he meant…

        • -1

Progressively tear up the environment for profit you mean?

    • +2

ALL scientific research? Are you sure?

No. That's not what it says.

NASA has just announced that any published research funded by the space agency will now be available at no cost

Several things such as the two minutes of radio silence following Armstrong's mention of UFO's are missing.

    • +1

Terra - Are you sure your tin foil hat is on straight?

      It has been well documented

      … by conspiracy nutjobs

planted the story of the holocaust

I take it you've never read, heard or seen ANY well documented history yourself then

primitive humans were on the moon millions of years before we shamefully had to fake that we got there

Erm, how exactly do we know primitive humans were on the moon if we faked that we got there?

Any why would NASA want to cover something like that up? They would love to announce finding such stuff as it would increase their budget by a factor of 10 plus!

The first thing most conspiracy theories lack is common sense…
