It used to be a natural carbonated spring water from the edge of Mt Te Aroha, bottled in a town called Paeroa. It was taken over by the local Coke subsidiary called Oasis, then coke put their mark on it.
It is now bottled on the normal production line in Auckland. It was the mixer of your dreams. It is now an over-sweet imitation now also available with aspartame :-(
If Rockola was still available, I'd be interested, but I somehow doubt it :-/

In 1979 I bowed down in front of the giant L&P bottle in Paeroa. My NZ girlfriend got me hooked on it. I may never worship another beverage again.Just a few miles down the road was the Te Aroha hot springs, and they also had a local " lemon and Te Aroha" which was quite genuine - that was a long while back tho, I don't think you can get fluid ounces any more…

IMO it's a nice middle ground. Lemonade and Sprite barely have any lemon flavour, while Solo is disgustingly sweet. L&P is my favourite soft drink after visiting NZ a few years ago, but it's hard to find and overly expensive here.
