I wonder if this can be used in conjunction with the 1000 bonus fly buys for $100

    • The Flybuys deal is only available in-store, while this code is only for use online.

      • +1

The flybuys deal is only for Coles Prepaid Master Card Gift Cards.
        $50 cards (500 points) or $100 cards (1000 points)
There is a $5 fee for the cards so if you get the $100 card you go even with the 1000 points.
        Maximum 10 cards per transaction.
Only benefit I see is if you can buy tha cards with 5% discounted cokes gift cards.

        • $5 for 1000 points is ok

        • @Turd:
The deal I mention is different from OP's deal.
1000 flybuys points =$5 so you just get back in points the fee you paid for the card.

    • Email says

"Only available in-store at Coles Supermarkets. "

  • +1

Does this have the same international transaction fee free bonus?

    • +1

      under fees:

Currency conversion fee: 3% of the transaction total

      so, nope

  • Is this only for the virtual (online) card only as per the link?
It says there that you can "Upgrade to a Coles Reloadable MasterCard at any time". Does that then cost $10?

Edit - Found the answers to my questions:
Virtual card only, which can be used online or over the phone, not in-store (unless you can convince the merchant to type in the card number as if it was over the phone).

$5 fee to upgrade it to a Coles reloadable Mastercard.

  • I just signed up for a deal where if I spend $50 over 4 weeks I get a $50 Coles card. Any idea if this would work. I'm pretty sure that was online or in store?

    • Yes.

Offer valid only at Coles and Bi-Lo Supermarkets and Coles online (excludes Coles Express).

But you cant use this with the FlyByuys I think

    • Probably not, I've just gone through to the payment stage and at no point did it ask me for my flybuys number.

  • +4

Description should be updated - it looks like it's only for the virtual/online card only. In the PDS it says you can upgrade to a Coles Reloadable MasterCard at anytime which will incur you a card replacement fee of $5.

  • +1

This is good if you have a cc with 0% purcahses for x months offer

    • But you can't use it at an atm though?

Where do I sign up to become an unsecured creditor?

How many of these gift card schemes where a company goes into receivership and decides not to honour them do we need before people start giving cash as gifts with a note suggesting what the recipient might do with the money?

I HATE GIFT CARDS. If it's a freebie or a bonus, then fine but I'll use it ASAP.

Coles is closing down next week I heard.

      • +20

        you misspelt woolworths

        • +6

Australia is closing down next week!

        • +1

With all of these 5.25% voucher specials, I see cash flow issues!

        • +2

          @Turd:

Dymocks, Angus and Robertson, Dick Smith and many more.

And they don't have to close down. Just bring in administrators.

        • @Turd:
It's true if the census figures are to be believed, seeing as all 25k people filled it in.

      • Coles is closing down next week I heard.

But Coles does not back these cards any more than they backed the Dick Smith gift cards they sold.
Cards are issued, and funds held by, Indue. If Indue goes broke, Coles might compensate people who still hold receipts, if they feel like it.

    • Agreed on the gift cards, but these are useful for other things, and anywhere, not just Coles.

Even if you already have a credit card, these are good for Tiger Air (avoiding the surcharge) or "free" trial subscriptions.
Or giving to online stores you do not fully trust.

    • +1

It's not tied to Coles. You use it anywhere mc is accepted.

      • +2

Fair enough. I stand corrected. But noting that you still lose the money if it expires, it's still a bad deal. They rely on people doing this. Cash doesn't expire.

  • +1

So with this card, if its expired, will I lose the balance?

Also if Coles to go out of business like ds, is this still valid?

    • +2

      Yes
      No

    • You should read the PDS.
      1) yes
      2) the company that you are buying the card from is not coles but someone called Indue. One of the conditions on the card is that they can cancel it at any time, so I would hazard a guess at no, it wouldn't be valid as liquidators try to stop funds flowing out of the company.

    • Some cards in the Coles shop have a long use by date - check the date on the back of the card on the stand.

  • Perfect for fetlife and other sites… :-)

    • Why FetLife?

      • Well in general, a card to use that you don't want to be traced back..

  • Are these linked to an Aussie address? Would it work as a USA credit card for example for services like Hulu?

    • I don't think it can work as a USA credit card, the only credit card with US billing address is www.usunlocked.com/

    • +1

You can get an Aus Post Load N Go card and not do the online registration step and it stays anonymous. You will be known as 'valued cardholder' with no address. I used one for almost 2 years with US Netflix before they brought in the Aussie service.

Better off with ING Direct card for International purchases. Only 2.5% currency conversion fee vs 3% on this card.
What else is this card doing that say an account at ING wouldn't do? (Besides giving one as a gift).

    • +7

Why do you even pay 2.5% currency conversion fee at all and why are you comparing this to ING?

      • ING wasn't mentioned, nor were international purchases.
      • If you want a card for international purchases, you should use one of the following:
      • Coles Mastercard Rewards ($89 annual fee)
      • Coles Prepaid Mastercard ($10 card fee - waives intl transaction fees until 31/12)
      • ANZ Travel Adventures ($225 annual fee)
      • 28 Degrees ($0)
      • Any Bankwest Platinum Credit Card (Annual fees of $0, $150, $160)
      • Citibank Plus Transaction Account (debit card - free)
      • Macquarie Transaction Account (debit card - free)

All the cards I have listed above waive the foreign transaction fee.. that's all I can think of right now. Save yourself that 2.5%!

  • I am still not understanding why 32 people liked this deal?

      Free Trials

      • Unfortunately the virtual prepaid card doesn't have the deactivate feature unlike the physical prepaid card.

    • +4

Sometimes balance checks with this card at Coles Express servo gives you a voucher for a free sim card, free coffee, six pack of Corona for $10 etc. I haven't seen any for a while though.

  • Says you can only put $1000 max on it. That kills it for my purposes (OS trip).

    • Due to possible illegal funding and sending money to terrorists, limits are imposed.

    • +1

says here you can increase your card limit up to $10k if you verify your identity.

      • Thanks @blablabla23. That's good to know.

  • Can anyone confirm if these cards allow you to reload a coles reloadable mastercard using the prepaid service centre?

    • No the transaction will get declined

      • Boo. Thanks for the reply though!

  • Can you load it using usual BSB transfer? And can you use it for Hey You free coffee?

    Edit:
    Nevermind, min $10 load.

  • +2

Virtual cards are difficult to spend completely since your can't split payment online. Leaving a few cents/dollars in them. Not worth the hassle.

    • You can load it up to the exact amount you need. A hassle though.

    • Spend rest at super market

      • Is there option to split payment online for supermarkets?

        • +2

Leave your left amount above $4.75 and buy 5% off Wish eGiftcard at your customised amount. You can always adjust the giftcard value to spend the last bit.

    • Less flexible - but there are ways to spend the remaining balance- ATO, utility bills (through auspost app), phone bills (depending on provider) are some I can think of.

  • How long is expiry on these?

    • One year as opposed to the physical prepaid cards which are valid for two.

  • there a few scraps of reasons in other comments, but can someone please tell me why this is a great thing to get? i mean, i can shop online with paypal or my normal bank debit card, so what are the benefits of this?

  • Originally I was going to use this card to sign up for free trials which automatically start charging you after the free period (eg. Spotify or Presto). I thought this would be safe, as if I forget to cancel the trials, the transaction would get declined anyway since there'd be insufficient balance and I wouldn't lose money.

However, I just read this in the T&Cs, can anyone confirm if this actually occurs (or if they just claim it to stop people from signing up to free trials with recurring costs):

"If you authorise a transaction that exceeds the Available Balance, you’ll be liable for any Negative Balance that may result. If you have less than $0.00 Available Balance remaining on your Card, you must repay us the amount needed to bring the Available Balance back to $0.00. You may also be liable for any reasonable costs we may incur in seeking the amount of the Negative Balance from you. If your Card has a Negative Balance, when you next load value onto your Card, we will first apply that loaded value to recover the Negative Balance from you."

    • Don't do that. They will screw up your credit rating and send the debt collectors to your house. No worth it!

  • Can you use Amex to purchase these cards?

    • No,VISA/MasterCard only.

  • Meet problem in using it.
Every time I transfer money to coles card from my commonwealth bank card. The commonwealth bank card would be blocked and I need to ring them to remove block. Talk with them many times to tell them that this is my regular transaction. But this just keep happening and they said they have no way to stop it.
So had to stop using coles card. Any advice?

    • They put an exemption on my card for me. You can do direct deposit or use ING card.

    • Their tight security is the reason I'm cancelling my CommBank credit card

  • -1

    Is the virtual card reloadable?

  • Does anyone please knows, if money can be sent using this card via Western Union or Money Gram?

  • Does anyone know if using your credit card to load is treated as a cash advance or a purchase that gets you frequent flyer points?

    • I would say purchase, thus the low limit of 1000

  • Does anybody know if buying this card gives regular credit card points?

  • Having probs receiving mail on Pegasus from Coles with this system. Be careful.

  • Code is still working as of now

  • I am getting Promo code has expired message

  • Dang, late for a day :(
