    Google Chromecast 2 for $49

    It's only ONE !!!

    • +1

ha ha… 2 is the version of the Chromecast.

      • +45

When I saw the deal title, I almost fainted…

I was going to use one on the TV and one in the bathtub !!!

        • +11

Where did you get your bathtub from? Mine only holds water, unless the HDMI slot is hidden.

        • +1

what your old CRT TV has a HDMI input?

        • +10

          @Brouw3r:
Jv was going to use it as an alternative
          Hydro Damming Multipurpose Implement.
It's the right shape and even comes with an anchoring chain to save you from having to fish for it in the bathtub.

        • -3

hopefully the power lead is in the same tub :)

to stop us using the $25 voucher on it no doubt

    • +4

Nothing stopping you from adding $1 to cart

      • -6

i generally have $1 in my pocket, not in my cart

      • +16

$49 is just an invitation to treat. Just counter offer $50. Would love to see the expression on the operators face if they don't know about the voucher.

        • Ahhh, comm law 101…the memories…

  • +3

And so this is a perfect example of how commas should be used

    • +37

      It's like:
      "Let's eat Grandma!"
      "Let's eat, Grandma!"

      Commas save lives.

      • +27

It depends what kind of eat

        Its the difference between:

        Knowing your shit; and
        Knowing you're shit……

        • +4

          That's an apostrophe not a comma mate..Fyi

        • +4

          @djevoultion:

I though he said grammar instead of grandma.

        • +2

how do I correct the grammar for…
Let's help Uncle Jack off the horse

        • @TightBottom: Would you help let jack off?

    • +1

Nah, Chromecast Mk.II would be better.

  • +1

It's the same price at JB HIFI. I actually just purchased one from Officeworks (price matching JB HIFI) a couple of hours ago.

  • +1

bugger - just bought the thing for $58 (minus $25 voucher)

do GG give money back if they change the price within a certain period?

    • -6

they'll give u back the $33 and void your voucher if you want?

      • +1

can't tell if flippant answer or not….

I'll take my money back and purchase again at the lowest price (with a sim card to make up the extra $1). Not sure why they would void the voucher, not like I've done anything wrong

        • well I think their point was that voucher can only be used on min spend of $50, $49 voids it

      • thanks

      • +2

The price guarantee doesn't apply to their own price drops, I tried it a couple of months ago.

        • +1

That's a shitty thing for them to do - they knock their own price down and leave you hanging. In the meantime you can make a claim if someone else has it cheaper… Remains to be seen if they do it here but I reckon they should honour it (against the JB HiFi price)

        • This, and they are pretty blunt about it, got ripped $200 by this.

        • No they do and they refunded me the difference.

      • +3

Got response from TGG. Bought the Chromecast last week for $58 with $25 gift voucher and lodged a claim against JB Hi-Fi price $49 yesterday

Thank you for submitting a 30 Day Price Guarantee claim.

We have validated your claim and we are pleased to inform that your claim has been successful.

You have chosen to receive a store credit Payback to spend at The Good Guys.
Your store credit will be sent to you via SMS in 2 working days.

        • They must know OW will drop their price ASAP to avoid pricematch. And yes OW did. I've just done my claim by match OW's $49. Waiting for the reply.

    • +1

Do their 30 day price beat guarantee online form. They check what you paid based on the docket and just quote JB's price and they send you 105% of the difference via text as a coupon

      • +2

easy as - weird that you have to point to a different retailer given they have it for the cheaper price themselves. At any rate I've applied at the link f4te provided above

        Thanks

    • +2

Not worth the hassle for $8 IMO.
I also have the same thing

      • +5

I disagree - it took me about 1 minute to complete the form online - will take the credit and combine it with the next $25 voucher
        Very simple process

        • Will you lose $25 voucher code?
Or will they refund the money with the $25 gift card as well?

        • Agreed - I just completed the same thing myself - took barley a minute. I need an additional Chromecast for another TV I have so will combine this with the next $25 voucher when purchasing it.

        • @rodinthink:

Huh? I've already got the item at home having made the purchase online with the voucher last week. The invoice shows no mention of the voucher, just the $58 purchase price.

I have filled out a form that should get me as $10.80 store credit based on the 120% of difference guarantee. Shouldn't have anything to do with the voucher…

        • @fattyboombatty: I think the refund is 120% of the $9 difference, so I believe it should be $14.31 credit, correct me if I'm wrong though!

        • @delucz:

          I'd say you're wrong :-)

          Difference is $9 - 9 * 1.2 = 10.8. No idea where you got $14.31 from

        • @fattyboombatty:

Ahh ok got ya - I thought they beat the purchase price by 20% (ie 120%) but that doesn't sound right…just ignore me :)

        • @fattyboombatty:
Didn't understand… so we can either claim 120℅ cash back or return for a full refund?
I didn't see an option for full refund anywhere.

        • Who did you put for "Select an Approved retailer*" ??

        • @sund00bie: try jb hifi

        • @sund00bie: I'm trying to work this out too :( Can't go forward without it

        • +2

          @Newbie aussie:
No idea about the full refund. I claimed on the cashback form against the JB HiFi price - difference of $9 should be a store credit of $10.80.

Yet to be determined whether the use of the voucher will have any impact on their 30 day price beat promise, but it's worth the effort. Hopefully they'll come through. I suppose if they don't I could try to return it, I imagine I'd lose the voucher then as it has already been redeemed

I'll report back when they send me communication on my application

        • @sund00bie:
I provided the URL for the JB HiFi sale price of $49

        • @delucz: So you're allowed to combine two separate gift codes? How do you do this online, just enter one after the other?

  • +14
  • Damn.. Should have waited…!!! Agh..

  • Found a bowl for $1.49

    ignore that can't pickup

  • +1

    Thanks, got one :)

    • How? The website is ozbargained. I couldn't even get to the checkout page.

      • It's working fine for me

  • +1

Thanks guys. Great work. Just got a Chromecast 2 for $25 and bonus scrap papers for the kids :)

  • +5

ok.. I'd get one but I can't think of any reason to replace my original Chromcast
What does this do that the original can't?

    • waiting for answer :)

    • Same but bought one anyway since the old ones are selling for $25+ on ebay so I consider it a free upgrade

    • Chromecast Audio can do multi-room audio sync.
However you need two Chromecast Audio - as-in you can't combine with Chromecast or Chromecast 2.

      • +1

Unfortunately TGG doesn't sell Chromecast Audio.

        • Not yet, but I'm working on it.

        • Or just take your newly purchased GG chromecast video (using $25 voucher) to JB and swap it for a chromecast audio

          :-)

        • +1

          @pumpkins:

Or just take your newly purchased GG chromecast video (using $25 voucher) to JB and swap it for a chromecast audio

how is that even possible without a JB receipt?

        • @CVonC: unless there's something unremovable identifying it as being from tgg, it would be a store exchange without a receipt. Doable but unethical.

        • @Gav: This is why we can't have nice things

    • +1

      I googled.
CC1 has just 2.4 b/g/n WiFi (should be ample fast enough).
With dual band ac WiFi the CC2 can stream faster.
However with my pathetic 5 mbps adsl it's not gonna make any difference.

I think I can wait for CC3 before upgrading

      • I think the significance of the newer AC connection is just that it is a potential improvemnet if you are doing network streaming to it via Videostream or similar. It also eliminates or reduces interference that the G/N bands can experience which may slow down your video streaming.

    • I am really struggling to find the words to explain myself clearly so my apologies if this reads oddly.
Anyway… anecdotally I have read this thing has faster or newer internal bits and this means its initial start up is quicker as is its loading time of the video. This is seperate to it also being able to use AC wireless in this newer version and seperate to any buffering or internet speed related considerations. The example I can give is if you have a really old computer or maybe a netbook and you have an otherwise fast internet connection, you will find that loading youtube.com and then loading your desired videos page and the player within will still take a noticable amount of time.

Personally I liked my chromecast enough initially but the interface and lag between setting a video to play and waiting for it to start playing has become noticable and a bit annoying over time when considering if I had a computer attached to the tv, switching between videos via the browser would be a lot smoother. Take this with a grain of salt, I do not own Chromecast 2 however I will be hoping to get one as soon as my $25 off voucher arrives.

      • I can confirm the 2 is much snappier in loading the program initially and subsequent videos. I mainly use plex and YouTube. The A.C. wireless will be helpful when I eventually upgrade my router.

  • is there any way to search the whole website for cheap items? or does one have to search each sub category one by one?

    • I just search GVA or USB and sort by price.

      • yeah, you could search for specific things like that, but what I mean is a search for ALL items, to browse through random useful things. eg. someone posted a bowl above (not what i'd be after exactly, but to each their own!). :)

  • Can anyone kindly send the code if you dont use it please? thank you!

    • ditto, please :)

happy to provide my code as payback once it arrives. this is the only thing I'm going to want to buy from the TGG in the near future, if ever

  • The promotion code you have entered is invalid. Please verify the code and try again. WHAT? O_O

    • +4

You need to enter it as a gift card, not in the promotion code box

    • +2

Its not a promo code, enter it at the the payment page without a pin number

I was able to order without adding any $1 item to make the total $50

    Description Unit price Qty Amount
    Discounts & Other Payments
    -$25.00 AUD 1 -$25.00 AUD
    GOOGLE
    $49.00 AUD 1 $49.00 AUD
    Subtotal $24.00 AUD
    Total $24.00 AUD
    Payment $24.00 AUD

    • This worked for me too =)

    • Yep same here!
      $24 SWEEEEEEET!!!!

      Strange.
Invoice still says $49 and same with email verification says $49.
Payed with Paypal and that invoice says $24.

Was worried for a second there that the $25 off was rejected!

    • Worked for me as well. Thanks

    • +6

i got it for $4 :) truly my proudest OzBargain moment.

Combined the $25 newsletter voucher with the $20 scratchy win a few weeks ago.

  • I have received my first catalogue but not the second, to get 25 store credit. how long does that take usually?

  • Delivery isn't too bad ($5) if pick up isn't an option.

  • +2

Damn it, could have got this for free instead if I waited. Definitely going to wait next time.
