i ended up getting one for $42 from overseas while on holidays, still cant seem to find any advantage of this over 1st gen? (besides wifi and gui speed). Am i missing something or is this just a rehash of v1 ?
It's faster, so your videos will load a bit more quicker and it will be more of a smooth experience when casting. Thanks to its improved processor and connectivity. That's about it.

If you can do online order and pickup, I think you can just add Chromecast to your basket and checkout. A few ozbs (including me) managed to get it for $24 (49 - 25) without adding any thing else in the basket.

Even though the coupon says MIN SPEND $50, you can use it on the $49 Chromecast upon checkout…further that, i used the $20 credit i got form their scratchy campaign which was accepted even though both said 'not to be used in conjunction with any other deals' or some shit…

Who owns a tv that isnt a smart TV? I bought the first version of these and never used it because it does nothing I found useful.
I don't believe any smart TV would perform as good as this would, they're quite clunky to use.
Chances are you will have a better experience with CC, especially when casting websites or using PLEX.
However, it might be good as a substitute, like the main TV might have your X1 and your second TV might have CC to stream content.
It depends on your use. Plus it's small, can plug and play to any TV, take it with you etc. For the price, it's handy to have.

my issue is I signed up a day or two ago but haven't received any emails or communication from them yet. Not even so much as a confirmation of registration email. If I try register again with the same, correct email address it says I'm already registered. nothing in the spam folder either

The catalogue is weekly, so at least 2 weeks. Catalogues are sent every Tuesday, and another maximum of 4 days before the code is texted to you. So 18 days from now.
Ok got the "Thanks, we've received your details" email today to both my original address and the new one I used last night. Looks like they lagged on sending it out.

What does this do that the PS3 doesnt do?
ummmm…tell me how you're playing youtube on the ps3 currently and if you're using the stock web browser then tell me it isn't a very slow process loading youtube, finding each video and playing it in less than HD quality. I know there's a workaround website you can use to force HD but it isn't pretty.
Also you gotta boot up your ps3 whereas the chromecast is going to be a fair bit faster. If your ps3 is anything like mine you're not going to have any fan noise. you can control the chromecast from your phone or just about any reasonable android/apple tablet device and your friends can connect up to it simultaneously and control it for some youtube roulette.
Plus PS3 can't cast websites with ease, doesn't support 5Ghz and it's outdated tech, tiresome to use compared to PS4 or X1 now.
there's a youtube application for PS3….
The Chromecast sounds good, but i can't justify buying one if i have the PS3….
alright i gotta try this although i'm not sure how I missed it seeing as it apparently came out in 2012. I'll get back to you on what I feel the difference is.
/edit/ nevermind. my ps3 is jailbroken. need to be logged into playstation network to use the youtube app or at least, it wants to update the app first and you need to be logged into the psn network to do that. maybe there is a way around that, I dunno. I could play gta5 online two years ago but maybe that's different.

In order for me to cast my iPhone onto the Chromecast2 I would need to install the Google Cast app right?
Then in order to connect the app to the Chromecast2 I would need to add this Chromecast2 as a new device and connect it as if it was a WiFi network right?
If this is the case, will my iPhone be using it's only WiFi connection to the Chromecast2?

No, you don't connect to the chromecast as a wifi network, it's a separate connection, you just press the cast button on the app you want to cast, (no switching networks) once you've done the initial setup and connected the Chromecast to your home wifi network.
You can be connected to your home wifi on your phone, and also be casting things (Music, YouTube, etc) to your Chromecast.
You should never have to connect your phone to the wifi network that the Chromecast creates.Thanks for the response… Sounds logical!
