For SA residents (no 7/11 here): also $1 at OTR.

    • Out of curiosity, does anyone know why there isn't an 7/11 in SA? Just never expanded there, bought out?

      • +1

Someone told me that OTR agreed not to expand out of SA if 7/11 agree not to expand into SA, don't take that as fact though, could be incorrect.

When Mobil closed down 7/11 bought them Australia wide and turned them into 7/11's, apart from SA where they onsold them to OTR (most were made into OTR stores apart from a few that were closed or onsold again to Caltex).

if only we can use in google play store billing…

    • i've done google play store with optus prepaid before though, albeit with $30 kits

      • Yes but did you add money onto your account to do it?
If you buy a $30 starter kit and choose to activate the $30 my prepaid ultimate then you won't be left with any money in your account? Or am I wrong?

        • +2

nah for the daily plan, you dont get charged for the day if your sim is not in your phone. I bought it for the credit and only used it to receive calls (didnt use data/make calls)

      • What steps did you do to get Google Play Store credit with Optus prepaids?

  • +3

Sweet.. on the Daily plus plan it'll cost $1 for 2.5gb ?!! Perfect for tethering

    • I'm reading $4 for 1GB per day

      • What he means is you're paying $1 for $10 of credit with Optus charged at $2/day which gets you 500MB/day (2.5GB).. but you only paid $1 for the entire SIM, so it's $1.

        • Got it!

    • Hi Pat
I thought you need a minimum of $30 for daily plus plan, which lasts for 186 days, is it correct?
When $10 starter will expire after first activation?

      Thanks.

      • INFORMATION ABOUT PRICING
        EXPIRY AND TIMING
Daily plan inclusions end at the time when you select another plan
or at 11:59:59pm local time each day, whichever is earlier.
To keep your service active, you need to recharge 120 days from
your credit expiry, otherwise you may require a new SIM card to
use the service and you may not be able to continue using your
        mobile number.
Also, if you’re activating a $2 SIM, your first recharge needs to be
within the first 122 days of activation to keep your SIM and mobile
        number active

So you have 122 days to finish off the credit so it is only $3 for 1 years to park your number to the sim.

      • On the daily plus plan your $10 credit expires 28 days after activation.

    • Are there any other Optus subscription bargains because searches aren't giving any great incentives. I see cheap hoyts tickets, 0.5GB/day for 5 days, but what else?

  • +2

so with this we can purchase cheaper hoyts tickets?!!

  • +1

These will go great with the $2 sandwiches!

    • No it will go great with the free soup and donut

      • +4

        But those expire today :(

Also, Savas spelt backwards is savaS.

        • +3

Wait till 11:59pm, you can get 2 deals in 1 :D

  • +3

So is there any actual usable credit included?
    Do we get any data?

  • +1

I don't see the offer on the website

  • what do you get for the $10 kit?

  • +2

Any idea how many per customer/purchase?

    • +1

@ my local 7/11 had 4 on stock and i grabbed all 4 under one transaction

      • LOL. Thanks for being so honest.

    • +1

I would bet good money there are Ozbargainers out there that have grabbed more than 30.

  • +4

I bought some from Coles for $2 each. I feel ripped off now.

    • get some of these as well then port port port port port port

    • They've been free in the past with the right card (Coles, ING) using ATM at Coles Express. I've still got about 10 free ones from last deal.

    • That's different.

      • mate, do you know what is included in the starter sim?

      • Apologies.

  • Make sure you check expiry, have purchased expired sims from 7/11 before.

    • +11

Bit like everything else they sell I guess..

      • +1

bought 4 sims, all expires Jun 2018

        • The 52 I bought expire in Sep 2018

  • +1

is the Guzman deal still on?

    • +2

      Good call

    • If you have a Vodafone-unlocked phone you can activate the free Kogan SIM temporarily for receiving SMS/calls without payment on the last page.

  • make sure it's not expired, last stack free from coles servo end up into the bin

    • bought 4 sims, all expires Jun 2018

  • Optus. Wouldn't even bother.
    Great deal though, OP

    • So what do you suggest instead?

  • Time to stock up and get some 'free' UBER trips lol.

    • $25 value for $1

    • How do you get around uber not letting you use the same card for payment on different accounts?

    • Uber will blacklist your handset and card number

  • +1

I bought a few of these recently. I paid $2 instead of $1. I was going to use them to port my number from Telstra. Telstra had decided to screw over it's customers that like to port in and out to take advantage of the $30 freedom plan. So looks like I won't be porting anymore and giving Telstra $30 instead of $10 to $15 like I was before. Oh well it was good while it lasted and I save time moving my number all the time. These sims are still excellent if you want to activate just for some extra data. Can't lose!

    • +5

How did they screw you over?

They taken away the $30 Google credit component.

        • +1

But you can still port in/out and take advantage of the discounted SIMs?

That's not entirely screwing you over.

        • I did some reading and so much introductory articles were unable to articulate certain points and questions arose. For example;

          • Did the prior situation to the cancellation of transferable Google Play Store credit mean that $30 Telstra credit also brought $30 Google credit to use like $1 for $1 rebate that Telstra would claim from Google through billing?

          • Is the understanding correct that the above node said Freedom Plus no longer has transferable credit to Google but the other options still do?

Back to the Optus promo in this node, thank you to the OP for noticing everyone, please be Johnny on the spot with any Telstra promotions if credit can be transferred to Google.

        • +1

Yeah not screwing you over. They have the right to change their offers.

        • +1

          @lovepeoplenotmoney:

Yep, you could use the credit to purchase on Google Play (excluding devices) at a $1 to $1 rate. This was still a telstra balance (not google play credit) but under payment methods on the store you could select Telstra. You also still had the call credits/data associated with the recharge.

Yes it is still available for other Telstra PrePaid offers at this stage excluding PrePaid Plus.

        • @JordanM: So having Telstra postpaid still allows $1 used for Telstra to be matched with $1 for Google, or no longer is offered?

Is the understanding correct that other Telstra prepaid offers allow credit transfer to Google credit, but are not matched $1 to use on both Telstra and Google?

  • +2

    @lovepeoplenotmoney:
Telstra postpaid charges any google purchases to your bill. You can only take advantage on this with prepaid.

It is not a credit transfer as such, you use the Telstra Balance. For example I have a Telstra PrePaid Data Pass simcard/service, I recharged $50 and this gave me a $50 Balance and 5GB of data, I have used this $50 to purchase on Google Play and my current balance of that service is down to $2.67 whilst I still have the 5GB of data to use. You do not have separate Telstra and Google Balances but the allowance or $ balance of the recharge can be used with Google.

    • Thank you so much for clarifying, it's nice people explain things well.

  • What's included in this $1 starter kit? Standard calls? Any validity before which it needs to be activated?

    • +1

On the My Prepaid Daily Plus you get 5 days of calls to Aus, sms and 500MB credit. If you use any of those you use up that day. 30 day expiry. But you only get to dial out, sms or turn on data for 5 of those days.

      • I am after 30 days calls and SMS (incoming and outgoing) and no data at all. I guess this offer won't suit there.

        • 6 of these would give you that though activating would be a pain.

  • If I buy a bunch of these, and activate the number of one SIM to use as my new primary number, can I use other starter kits each month like Telstra's CreditMe2You, to keep recharging the primary number?

    • I bought $30 pack at $5 and tried like your intention but no luck. The activate web site will disallow you port from Optus to Optus. Only way is port out and port later alternatively. This pack is even strict because it's preloaded $10.

  • If only u could use this towards iOS iTunes credit…

  • Confirmed this at calamvale, QLD. Limit 1 per customer but I bought 5 without problem.

  • +2

Bought 4 in melb elizabeth street. No problem. Plenty more. Lady seemed surprised. All expiry 1 jul 2018.

    • Yep the ones I bought also expire 1 Jul 2018…and I bought from 2 different stores about an hour apart.

  • +4

Of course my local store had none in sight and the clerk never heard of the deal…

    • The cashier machine actually scanned as $1 and the advertisement is below the hooks of SIM card packs.

    • That's always the case for me whenever I go to 7-Eleven.

  • For non-porting, do sim cards work instantly or is there an activation-validation period?

    • +2

Sim card work instantly after activation-validation process with new number

  • Edited :Sorry posted wrong thread!

  • +3

Bought one cos I went to get $2 sandwiches. Now what do I do with it

    • claim free burrito, uber credit etc.

  • my local 7/11 had 4 on stock and i grabbed all 4 under one transaction

  • +2

Bought 10 at one transaction. A staff brought heaps of sim card fill up shelf quickly and ask if I want more. She said we have plenty and time to stock. Wow I like this kid. Lol

  • Plenty at St. Leonards. I thought this was Optus up to their usual practice of clearing old stock but these are new batches, expiry date 1 Jul 2018. There was even a promo sign on top of the rack so as expected, it scanned at $1.

  • The store I went to said they had to activate them for me. Couldn't talk sense into them. What gives??

    • Rubbish. Wait for a non-moron clerk to staff the counter and try again.

    • Lol. Poor you.
      Go to another.

But… it is good service though

      • same thing happen with me, im guessing since we havent selected a plan therefore it would not be activated.
        Correct me if i'm wrong.

      • +1

        That was Ashwood.
I drove to the Chadstone store and they had none.
Finally found them at Malvern East and the guy seemed surprised to see that price, but he obliged.
To make up for all that driving around, I bought 5.

    • The ones I bought today each came with an individual receipt marked "gift card". I don't think it's BS about having to activate them. But I was able to get multiple cards at 2 different 7/11s so the system isn't enforcing 1 per customer.

Btw given that they can change their deals any time that is exactly how you should think of these prepaid sims - they're a gift card until they're activated.

    • The store I went to said they had to activate them for me.

So they can sell you recharges ?

  • Tried to grab 6 but the guy only let me buy 1 :(

  • Turns out the $10 credit included is only good for 7 days on all plans. I was hoping 30 days but nope. You have to recharge.
I'm too much of a tight arse to continue after 7 days.

    • I activated one of these $10 sims on the My Prepaid Daily Plus just last week & I received 28 days expiry.
