1520

Harvey Normans one day sale.
Dont need anything, but saw a very good looking kettle with temp control on clearance for $49+$15 post to WA. No stock in WA and I have not checked other states.
Reviews are mixed, many died within the first year, but if your one works past that, then its a bargain =)
Could not find other places that sell it, just 1 ebay listing at some crazy $250

    Good looking Kettle
However seems like its been discontinued by the manufacturer
Also not very good reviews on the ProductReview Website - http://www.productreview.com.au/p/electrolux-eek7804s.html

    • only based on 4 users BUT all complained died within 12 months (still big hassle/time to deal with warranty, just for a kettle!!)
I do also have bad experience with Electrolux product…

      • +8

More often than not, people only post reviews when they face a problem. When was the last time you actively looked for a website to post a positive review on your microwave oven which you are happy with?

        • +1

i post positive reviews when there is a product worth posting about. however i've had a bad run with electrolux products (CHEF, Kelvinator simpson, westinghouse) so all I have for that brand is neg.

They really are not the brand they used to be.

    • +1

It's the worst reviews site ever. Have you noticed that the reviewers for most negative reviews for most products have only written one review - that one?

      • That is very true but it could just be they were so pissed by that one failed product they decided to make an account just to rant about it. But it does lead me to believe that some reviews could potentially be fake.

        • It's not just this item, I have come across so many examples, from blenders to insurance policies - mostly 1 star reviews from single-review reviewers.

        • @elektron:

I've posted multiple reviews on productreview.com.au and fwiw, out of the 7 reviews I've posted there, only 2 have been 1 star (1 of those being for the Breville Smart Kettle BKE820, which is similar to the item posted by the OP).

Of course people will have different experiences, but if I have an extremely positive or negative experience in relation to the purchase of a product or service, I like to share my experience, so can you name what you'd deem a more genuine general review/purchase feedback site please? Genuinely curious, thanks.

        • +1

          @Baltoski:

but if I have an extremely positive or negative experience in relation to the purchase of a product or service, I like to share my experience,

I think that's the problem right there. Appliances aren't exciting things. My Simpson clothes dryer works perfectly fine, it does exactly what it's supposed to, which isn't exciting enough for me to write a review for. I haven't had an extremely positive or negative experience with it - it just dries my clothes.

The vast majority of people are probably like that. My toaster works perfectly fine, just like my sandwich press. But it hasn't driven me to go to productreview and write a positive review.

But if 1% of buyers get a dud, they'll be a lot more likely complain about it somewhere. People will then only read the complaints and not realize that 99% of users are totally satisfied with the product.

It'll be worse for popular items as there'll be many more potential duds out there, even though the failure rate might still be the same.

so can you name what you'd deem a more genuine general review/purchase feedback site please?

Dunno if there is one. Amazon seems like the best at the moment, but even they have issues with fake reviews or reviewers who only have experience with that one product.

I'm not saying all review sites can't be trusted, I just think reviews should be read with the above in mind.

        • @eug:

I'm not saying all review sites can't be trusted, I just think reviews should be read with the above in mind.

Agreed. You have to keep an open, objective mind when reading reviews on anything, after all experiences are like opinions, everyone has one and they'll differ from person to person.

I think that's the problem right there. Appliances aren't exciting things. My Simpson clothes dryer works perfectly fine, it does exactly what it's supposed to, which isn't exciting enough for me to write a review for. To me, that's a positive experience, it performs as advertised and has met your expectations.

Whether or not it's enough for someone to leave feedback/a review will differ between people. Guaranteed, those who have poor experiences are more likely to share them this way, but that doesn't make their experience/s any less valid.

Dunno if there is one. Amazon seems like the best at the moment, but even they have issues with fake reviews or reviewers who only have experience with that one product.

Ok, thanks mate. Yeah Amazon has these same aspects to it. I guess any review site where members of the public can contribute will?

I'm not sure why people have an issue if people have left only one review though. Is their experience less valid because they've only felt strongly enough to write about that one item?

          Fake reviews are a scourge.

I'm happy to agree to disagree in regards to the validity of Productreview. I believe that feedback and experience is some of the most effective input one can receive though and in this respect I've found the site helpful enough that I wanted to contribute also, but respect that others don't like the site/don't believe in the reviews etc.

Sorry for the long post everyone. TL:DR version - Opinions and experiences vary ;)

At the same time, you find many products on that site that has 100s of positive reviews. Usually an indication of quality. Some products I have that I looked for reviews on that site were quite accurate. But yes, we often speak louder when things don't work well than when they do.

    • On Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Electrolux-ELKT17D8PS-Expressionist-K…), there is a kettle with the same appearance but different serial number. The reviews of that product are quite neutral. It makes me confused, is this one just a cheap version?

      • The reviews of that product are quite neutral.

4.6 stars out of 5 is hardly neutural.

is this one just a cheap version?

I understand they're around $300 RRP in Australia, so I'd say it's the equivalent model but with temperature in F instead of C and water volume in Oz instead of ml.

sticker on the box says $149

        • @poop: Good to know, thanks. In terms of the design and features though it seems identical to the US version.

        • @elektron: Yeah I think it's great! boils very quickly and much quieter than the quiet boil kettle it replaced.

        • @poop: Thanks for the initial impressions, as I won't be able to try mine until the weekend. I didn't even realise it had a quick boil function when I grabbed it but I do like the sound of the one cup turbo mode.

        • +1

@elektron: Yeah seems really nicely made, I like the pop top lid as well - much easier than a manual open kettle. It also has the preset temps which list what they're for on the screen (e.g. green tea, white tea etc)..pretty nifty. Damn must be getting old when a kettle is this exciting.

        • @poop: On the contrary, you know you're getting old when it's hard to get excited about anything.

Yeah, the pop lid is very common even on $30 dollar K-mart specials these days. I had a temperature controlled kettle from Aldi until recently, which I was happy with (although without some of the bells and whistles of this one like the current temp display, turbo mode etc.) but had to return it due to a recall - was lucky to get the bad batch. So this one is a replacement.

How long does it take to boil? I think standard kettles of this size are around 6 min.

        • @elektron: Haha I like the positive spin there. Oh I haven't timed it but at a guess I would say 4 minutes? maybe even less? will time it next time I use it and post. I think it gets up to 80 fairly quickly from memory so you'll save some time there if you use a lower preset.

        • @poop:

It's the boiling time that counts. Not urgent though and I guess I'll find out in a couple of days myself.

        • @elektron: haven't tested it properly but I heard someone else use it in the house and it took about 2 mins 30 seconds to boil.

        • @poop: Thanks for that - very impressive!

        • @poop:

I took it to the top of Mt Everest, where I heard water boils much more quickly, but couldn't find a power point to test it out with.

        • @gomertose: That's a shame, should have packed some eneloops to run it off.

  • had ours for over a year, been working fine!

  • They are around the $300 mark. Good price!

    • +9

Holy flap a $300 kettle? Does it get up, dance and sing songs?

      • +5

No, but it's rather good at boiling water

        • Harvey Norman says the sale is up to 57% off.

It's weird if the usual price is around $300 they don't say more.

  • +1

1 year! I've had the same kettle for over 10 years now, still going strong.
It's not a bargain if it is a rubbish product!

    • +4

Should we understand what you are trying to say?

      • +3

many died within 1 year, how is that a bargain if you buy something for $50 and it carks it within a year?

    • yeah but ours doesn't use our stove top and has no whistling.

      • haha, doubles as an alarm clock for the kids

Does anyone know if there are any plastic inside?

  • +1

Paid around $100 for mine a few months ago. Great kettle well worth $50 might go buy a spare thanks OP…..

Could you advise how noisy it is please?
I'm interested in a quiet one.

Leave it unplugged and it's silent.

      • +1

tends to make bubbling noises at peak function times

  • Get the blender and toaster as well and you have the full picasso right there.

    • I snapped up both kettle and blender :)

  • Good price for a kettle with variable temperature control.

  • +1

thanks, got one… was thinking of the xiaomi kettle, but this will do for now cheers

    • +1

thanks, got one… was thinking of the xiaomi kettle, but this will do for now cheers

I saw the Xiaomi kettle hours after I ordered a breville smart kettle last night! I would have preferred the Xiaomi one.

    • I had the exact same thought. Was interested in the Xiaomi, then saw this post :)

    • +1

thought exactly same!! xiaomi's looks awesome and a truely smart kettle (compared to this one), but $50 for this kettle seems quite good too…

      • I actually prefer this over xiaomi's for the reason that I don't have to whip out my phone to change the temperature.

I do like xiaomi's design and possibility of being able to use it's app to switch on my coffee machine and boil the kettle while I snoozed in bed :P

  • Put order in… but no confirmation email

    • +1

Gotta wait like 10-15mins for an email to come in

  • I've got one a year ago and thought that it was a good deal for $85…

  • +1

Nice.. snapped up a kettle and toaster for Click and Collect

    • +1

All picked up! sheesh that was quick!

      • +1

Please make breakfast and report back ;)

        • Hehehe… on the weekend!

        • @ezza: noooo deal ends today! Need to know by 11.59 if I should order more haha

  • Sleek and slim kettle. Thanks op. Got one. Order ready for pickup as well from H&N Blacktown,NSW.

  • got a toaster and a kettle, thank OP!

  • Got one, it is $49 instead of $49.95.

  • I bought two. Got the extra as a father's day present. :)

    • If I was your father i'd be really disappointed in a kettle for a prez.

      • +3

A father of OB'ner will be very happy to know how much the kettle was selling for originally

        • +3

But still wouldn't want the kettle cause he'll have 4 sub $20 kettles in the garage…

  • +2

Kettle purchased! who buys a 2 slice toaster? maybe i'll by two and gaffer them together…

  • When are we going to get a smart kettle?

  • How much to spend before we get free delivery?

  • +1

Their Masterpiece Collection Jug blender is for sale at $99 today if anyone is interested. It was posted at over $200 here yesterday.

  • dont even know why, but ive snapped one up too. thanks OP!

  • +2

Here are some reviews on Amazon. It might not be the Exact same model, but looks the same…

    https://www.amazon.com/Electrolux-ELKT17D8PS-Expressionist-K…

  • Thanks for costing me $50 OP. There are around 15-20 left in Bondi Junction.
I also spotted another in a slightly different box. I didn't verify the barcodes so perhaps a later model.

  • A keep-warm function allows the user to maintain water temperature for up to 40 minutes.
But for Breville Kettle can be assigned to keep the water warm so you don’t have to boil it every time you need a top-up

  • Look good to me! mine just died a few week ago. Got one thanks

  • +2

Delightful, just got a toaster, kettle and blender - now my whole kitchen matches! (not always a common thing for a single straight male, haha!)

    • +10

Well done, you won't be single much longer now

      • +4

        …or straight?

  • my order got delayed :(

  • I used it for 2 years with no problem at all!

  • Grabbed one - could use a new kettle and many loose leaf teas need water at 80 degrees, as hotter stuffs it.

  • Thanks OP. C&C from H&N Cambridge, Tas.

  • Bought one, thanks!

  • Good deal but I wouldn't prefer a kettle with plastic inside.

  • Got 1 in Malaga WA. Still have 2 avaliable.

    • Thought there was none in wa?

      • Walk in, not order online.
