Akky, a subsidiary of NIC.mx are offering a very cheap .MX top level domain registration.

I have tested this, and it indeed works (whois tusker.mx).

You can register a shorter period too if you don't want to shell out $60, but obviously the per year price will not be as good (http://promociones.akky.mx/en/)

  If you host a mailserver, having a short hostname <company>.mx is shorter than mx.<company>.com.au!

  I'd think users would be more likely to remember mail.company.com.au than mx. "Mx, what's that about, any connection with my?" You like your DNS jargon too much.

    Interestingly MX actually stands for Mail Exchange, the DNS entry for the mail servers…

      Yes and it's a type of DNS record rather than a reserved name. Any name can be a MX. Not to forget the priority field too.
