Buddy Telco is using the Aussie BB network to provide nbn.

IPv4 with CG-NAT and a static IPv6 /48 block.

CG-NAT works fine for most users. CG-NAT can break remote access to some home security cameras, some home automation products, home server such as a Plex server and NAS or if you want to host online P2P games. If your home security cameras and automation products use a cloud server you will not be affected by CG-NAT.

Static IP for IPv4 can be added for an extra $5/month and this turns off CG-NAT. You can do this from the Buddy Telco portal.

Buddy Telco are using a chatbot and live chat support.

Our Perth-based live chat team is available Monday to Friday, 12pm–8pm (AEDT). If you need help outside of these hours, our customer service chatbot offers a range of self-serve options.

Does Buddy Telco have a cancellation fee or notice period?

No - Buddy Telco does not charge any cancellation fees nor require any minimum notice period to close your service. While we would be sad to see you go, we understand that life happens and we want to make the process of closing your service as simple as the rest of the Buddy Telco experience. If you cancel your service mid-cycle, we will only charge you for the days you are connected. You can cancel your service in the Buddy Telco app.

I wish they'd announce their new speed tiers/pricing already

    • +16

      they have :

We’re excited to let you know that you’ll be receiving free high-speed upgrades in September. And, to keep things simple, you don't need to do anything to get these upgrades. We’ll reach out again closer to the high-speed launch to confirm the exact date your speeds will increase.

      New high-speeds
      Old speed New speed
      100/20Mbps 500/50Mbps
      1000/50Mbps 1000/100Mbps
The high-speed upgrades will be available for Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connections. Other connection types will not be eligible for these upgrades.

      • +1

        Thanks, I should've checked!

      • but what about >1gbps speed plans

        • +3

Buddy Telco isn't doing 2Gbps (maybe later). Swap to Aussie BB or someone else for 2Gbps.

        • +3

I wouldn't hold my breath; they probably want you to pay more at Aussie Broadband for these plans.

    • Same price for current customers. I'm not sure if they will have a deal for new customers.

    • FYI if you are on opitcomm FTTP they do not offer plans.

  • +2

any chance to opt out CG-NAT instead of taking static IP?

    • +2

Not for free. Get the static IP to turn off CG-NAT @ Buddy Telco.

      • It's a shame so many are going in this direction. I support the ISPs that still let you get off CG-NAT for free.

        • Most providers let you turn off CG-NAT for $0. Buddy Telco and Launtel charge you.

          • @Twix: When I was with Launtel you could pay upfront for a static ip and then get a complete refund of your money if you decide you don't need it anymore - has that changed?

            • +1

@shutuptakemymoney101: Launtel still does that or $0.15c a day.

              • +1

@Twix: Glad Launtel haven't changed that, makes more sense to me to pay a one off 100% refundable deposit for a static IP instead of $5 per month.

It's a pity other RSP's don't do the same thing as well instead of the charge only option.

          • +1

@Twix: Launtel technically does not, its more a deposit until you don't want it and refundable

        • same

      • Are we just concerned about cheap smart devices that don't support IPv6? I'm guessing with dual stack there no longer is a problem for things like accessing gaming servers.

Idk. I've always opted out of cg-nat.

        • security cameras usually won't work on CGNAT if you are accessing them from outside

          • @thestooge: That's right if your NVR is setup for local only access.

If your home security cameras use a cloud server you will not be affected by CG-NAT.

            • +1

@Twix: if u setup like tailscale vpn locally

              does that bypass cgnat?

          • +1

            @thestooge:

security cameras usually won't work on CGNAT if you are accessing them from outside

bold move allowing direct internet connectivity to your security camera system on your local LAN.

Solutions like tailscale allow you to do this with a significant improvement in security, and have no issues with CGNAT.

    • +2

Nope. 5 bux a month only though.

Static IP is so useful to.

      Run webservers, mail servers…

      • You can still run a webserver on IPv6 + CloudFlare.

        Mail would be trickier.

  • So I can sign up for the free month and then leave after that month?

    • +1

      Sure if you want

      • This is what I want. And I will do it. Who's next?

  • +7

I'm with Buddy on 1000/50 and quite happy with it, was on AussieBB with the same speed before, don't notice a difference except it's cheaper and of course I wont get their top teir support if I need it.

Kinda bothers me that there don't seem to be incentives for existing customers, they're always for new customers, but if I recall correctly that's incentives directly from NBN.

    • +5

port and change to get the deals, its the only way. Loyalty does not pay (unfortunately)

    • +4

Buddy is a pretty good compromise between price and reliability how it is - the best possible deal will always mean porting around.

      • Leaptel too same price for gigabit.

  • any idea when this deal runs until?

    • +4

      ends 31/08/2025 11:59pm AEST.

  • +2

Buddy Telco is pretty good value compared to Aussie, not in love with the support hours though, not that I have had NBN issues for years.

Superloop doesn't have amazing support, though better hours than Buddy and you can usually negotiate $99 per month ongoing for the 1000/50 plan.

    • How'd you manage $99 for ongoing 1000/50 with Superloop?

      • +1

Called to cancel and was willing to follow through with it - $10 off per month for 12 months.

  • +5

damnit i just signed up a week ago and missed this

did the sidegrade from aussie and no difference to anything but $30 a month cheaper

    • +3

Same, was with Aussie before we got FTTP and the customer service was well worth it for the transition. Now that it's basically all smooth sailing and support requirements will be rare to non-existent, saving $30 a month is an easy trade-off.

    • I also literally signed up last week from ABB.

Oh well, at least I'm saving either way!

  • +6

Just DO NOT trigger a port over on a Friday, or you'll risk having no internet access over the wkend.
.. I've learnt it the hard way..

    • +5

Not sure if it's the same for FTTN but I submitted my order an hour ago and am up and running now

    • +2

I was up and running within 40 minutes

  • I missed it by one day. I just left Superloop with 30days notice and join buddy 30days ago statrting from yesterday……

    • Contact their support and tell them you will leave unless they honor this?

      • Thanks, I might just ask them on Monday. If not, I still have $10 off for 6 months, so only missing out $25.

  • Nice deal, there is no reason to stay with Aussie Broadband now that Buddy exists and you can get a static IP

    • +6

It depends on your requirements. Buddy Telco sells the more common nbn speed tiers and that suits most users.

Aussie BB has local call centres and sells everything including the extras…

      1. moving from nbn FTTN/FTTC to FTTP.
      2. nbn Fixed Wireless and the fast upload nbn FTTP speed tiers.
      3. nbn business and nbn enterprise.
      4. OptiComm.
      5. home phone and mobile.
      • +1

Would Buddy have the same ping to o/s servers?

        • You get the same ping using Buddy Telco as Aussie BB.

  • This one or Exetel which is $80/month?

    • +6

Exetel $80 is hard to beat, of course unless you host servers etc and you need no CGNAT Ip Adress

    • +3

Use this for a month and maybe swap to Exetel later. Note that Exetel is CG-NAT and a static IP is not available.

      • +2

This is the way. I left Exetel but will be back. Btw don't forget cashback for Exetel when you come back as a "new" customer.

  • +1

Did they increase their prices on the 50 plan, I swear it was 6 months ago 65$ or $69.95 now it's like $85 bucks.

To be honest 20 upload is criminal.

    • their 50 plan is $75 per month ongoing

      • Hmm, I recall signing up to them and it wasn't $75, I must be dreaming.

    • There was deals for 50/20 $63/m and $65/m for 6 months. $75/m was always the ongoing price.

      $85/m ongoing is for 100/20.

      • +1

These operators man are cutthroat, I left Aussie because I don't see the point calling their hotline, but in return I'm on a shared IP, good for piracy but for everything else.

Google flags everything connected to the network as a bot, something to consider on buddy.

But buddy had a deal, now I can't see the justification staying on buddy id it's price, hold on let me fact check the price:

        $1
        /first month*
First month $1 with code 1MONTH50
        $93/month after promo period ends.*
        nbn® 50/20
        Typical evening speeds (7pm–11pm):
        49Mbps
        Download
        17Mbps
        Upload
        Unlimited data
        Designed for:
2-3 people online at the same time using multiple devices
        Making phone calls (home VoIP)
Browsing the internet and sending emails
        HD and UHD video streaming
        Playing games online.

Oh dear lord Aussie much more expensive now, hmm.

        • I hardly ever get captchas with CG-NAT.

Keep changing provider for the deals. Aussie BB are pushing those on 50/20 $93/m vs 100/20 (500/50 soon) $95/m + $0 FTTP installation for most FTTN/FTTC users.

        • Google flags everything connected to the network as a bot, something to consider on buddy.
This happens to me on Superloop too, but didn't happen to me when I had Buddy NBN. Probably should get CGNAT switched off if you are getting captchas.

  • +1

    Can it be future dated?

    • Like sign up now for it starting in a month or two

    • +3

You can pick any future weekday until late October.

      • +1

That's legendary, my current internet plan expires around then

        • +2

Wait about a week and it will go into November.

  • For anyone wondering, Aussie Broadband removes CG-NAT upon request. I seldom have my IP change too.

  • Do these guys have any advance notice policy for churning away?

    • +3

No - Buddy Telco does not charge any cancellation fees nor require any minimum notice period to close your service. While we would be sad to see you go, we understand that life happens and we want to make the process of closing your service as simple as the rest of the Buddy Telco experience. If you cancel your service mid-cycle, we will only charge you for the days you are connected. You can cancel your service in the Buddy Telco app.

      • Leaving them in a month! Signed up today.

  • Any cashback deal?

    • No, I haven't seen any.

  • Moving from Exetel to this, had to put in cancellation 30 days in advance for Exetel, so my service for them is cancelled towards the end of next month. BuddyTelco recommended while signing up for this deal to put the connection date 1 day before Exetel cancels the service, so it reduces any chances of delays.

    • I left Exetel just 30 min ago. No notice needed. I was at the end of my billing cycle anyway. Whatever if they make me pay another month I'm getting Buddy for free at 1000/50.

      • +1

I left Exetel just 30 min ago. No notice needed. I was at the end of my billing cycle anyway.

expect to be billed for the following 30 days as per their (annoying) 30 day notification requirement.
You may be able to argue your way out of it , but at least dont be surprised when it turns up.

        • Yeah it's not too bad if it happens. I'm getting a free month so if I didn't have this offer I would've paid the bill anyway!

  • +1

Happy with Buddy so far. Is a price increase on the way?

    • +1

      No price increase.

  • +1

Thanks OP just churned and will leave after a month. Free internet!

    Churned in about 20 min.

    • Do they do a credit check?

      • Don't know. I don't think so?

      • +1

        No.

  • +1

Hahaha!, always the deal appears just a few days after I sign up/buy it

  • +2

Just a more specific heads up, you can sign up to get connected max 90 days into the future

  • Anyone know if you can sign up to multiple addresses each with the code? I pay for my parent's internet too 😅

  • I switched over from Aussie Broadband (on CGNAT, since it wasn't a problem) and ever since I've been getting a tonne of captchas on many sites, incredibly frustrating, though $69/month 100/20 was pretty cheap… Still got a few more days until I'm considered a new customer again at ABB.
Might want to take that into account if you aren't prepared to spend extra on a static IP (which I didn't want).

    • There are some benefits in having a dynamic IP address. Some download sites only allow one download per so many hours. Refreshing the IP address gets around this.

  • +1

Awesome deal, sign up for free internet then leave :D

    • This is the way!
Aussie Broadband have NBN50 for $1 first month.

      • +1

Just signed up with Aussie. Now the NBN100 is $1 first month as well.

  • No access to streaming services (Disney, YouTube etc) on smart tv since change over, anyone else? Easy settings fix?

  • +3

    Thanks OP!

Perfect timing as my promotional period with Leaptel (fantastic ISP) has just finished.

    • +1

      Exactly the same here!

Put the request through 20mins ago and already up and running on Buddy.

  • I am on Optus HTTC.
    Buddy showed:
"Sorry, we can't provide an nbn® connection to your address at this time, for connection options please check with our friends at Aussie Broadband"
    Then I checked Aussie:
    "READY TO CONNECT (APPOINTMENT REQUIRED)
Your address is serviceable by the nbn® but additional works are required. You can order your service with us today and we'll schedule in an appointment for a technician to complete your installation.
Your connection type is Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)."

I never require to upgrade to http, but think it is time to.
btw, superloop is still have httc options for my premises.

    • nbn has marked your location as FTTP from now on. FTTN and FTTC is going away over the next few years.

Buddy Telco doesn't let you move from nbn FTTN/FTTC to FTTP. This is why it says check with Aussie BB to organize FTTP. I would use Leaptel or Superloop to organize FTTP.

Buddy Telco allows you to signup with them after FTTP is installed.

      • Thanks and sorry for typo: fttc/fttp.
There is a concrete driveway from curb to my meter box. Is that a huge job to upgrade fttp?
Also, can I still use my old fttc router? As it’s not easy to change 1x devices passwords.

        • All good. Is there a Telstra/nbn conduit pipe near the meter box?

Yeah you can re-use your router. What is the brand and model number?
