  • Wow, these prices look awesome.

I wish it had more then 12 month warranty :/

    • Sam,

Samsung warranty is 12 months - they USED to have 24 months - but they brought theirs inline with all the other Big 3. :(

      ODS.

      • Regardless of that there is still a statutory warranty.

        • -1

The statutory warranty that you're legally entitled to could be significantly less than 12 months. The actual wording is arbitrary: a reasonable amount of time. I doubt the respective tribunals and consumer protection associations would do much if your TV broke down after a 12 month period.

          • +1

@pais: So you think a >$1000 TV which lasts less than 12 months is "reasonably fit for purpose" or of "merchantable quality".
Or to put it another way it, you think it is is acceptable for consumers to need to spend $1000 per year buying a new tv? The answer is no.

            • @anthony: The tone isn't really necessary. I said nothing, anywhere about a TV that lasts for less than 12 months being of reasonable quality. You've just put words into my mouth. I said it's possible due to the arbitrary wording of your rights - essentially a grey area for consumers, retailers and manufacturers alike, but I think it is fairly safe to say, as you've suggested, that less than 12 months for a TV is unacceptable.

I did say, however, that this TV has a 12 month warranty, and that you may have a hard time convincing everyone ($$ and time) of what you're entitled to. Even then, if they grant you a refund, it's pro-rated; $$ taken off if you paid too much at purchase, $$ taken off for wear and tear, $$ taken off for time used.

I don't think you've read my comment properly and instead are just pulling things out of context to argue minutiae. What you'll find is regardless of their voluntary declarations of warranty (12 months), that most retailers will still be accommodating even after this time period. They must keep replacements parts for (even a discontinued model) a reasonable amount of time, and if you complain hard enough, they'll usually just fix it for you regardless. Of course, they may not, and then (again) you're wasting time (and perhaps money) by chasing it up via official channels.

              • @pais: Sorry if you took my comment the wrong way, I thought you were basically saying statutory warranty is useless as you will never be able to convince the relevant people you are entitled to a remedy.

    Wooooah……the 63" has a shipping weight of 220KG …… and consumes 620 watts / hour!

    • Ash,

You want big? Bigger is better? But you do have to pay!!

We can arrange pick up from our Sydney Warehouse - and - its free!

      ODS.

      • You want big? Bigger is better?

You'd certainly need a heavy duty wall bracket to support that puppy …… infact, you'd need a stong wall.

        • Ash,

I hear you - IIRC the TV itself alone weighs in the vicinity of 77kg…..PHYSICAL weight.

I hope the studs of your walls are more then 3 x 1&1/2 at that weight….

          ODS

          • @ODS: 55" plasmas are around 60-65KG, so that figure shouldn't be too far off :)

    • thats the issue with plasmas, as they get larger the amount of juice required really kicks in, which is why the bigger plasmas are much cheaper than similar size lcd, the electricity bill kinda pays off in long term

    • the 63” has a shipping weight of 220KG

I wouldn't have thought that a TV would be charged at volumetric weight, the boxes are not that big and the tv's are fairly heavy

  • imo seems like a good price but found the same model, series 8 50", for 100 dollars cheaper however i dont know if it's a factory second or new.

also read reviews that say this model buzzes a lot, does any one own one and do they know if the buzzing noise is really loud?

  • people are still buying plasmas? are you using your next door neighbor's electricity?

    • +2

      According to whirlpool addicts…

second post on page 3~ new gen plasma use less electricity than current gen LCDs…

      Sublemon,

Fantastic price! Are they IN stock?

Regardless - you want this 63" mother - and you are in Sydney - I will BEAT their price. ($2999.00 + $99.00 shipping)

      email me - [email protected]

      ODS.

      • Good to know you are willing to beat their price. I've already got a samsung plasma myself though.

The 50 inch is an old model which is not eligible for the free surround sound blu ray system from Samsung.
I bought the new model for $1380 last week and have applied for my free blu-ray.

  • +1

According to the samsung website, all 3 of these models are eligible for the free BR HT system

Very interested in the PS50B850, just a few questions please.

*Found it $150 cheaper here, are you able to price match and do free delivery(i'm in Sydney)?
    http://www.www.thinkaudiovisual.com.au/p/1118212/samsung-ps5…

*I assume your product is eligible for the free BR HR System?

*Do you offer the extended Warranties?

*If i happen to buy it and the 'known' buzzing sound found in a few samsung models is found & excessive - is it replaceable by warranty?

    • Cary,

NO free delivery - but free pick up :)

Free BR system -is eligible on this product:

      http://www.samsung.com/au/promotions/tv-av/score-a-gift/regi…

Sorry - no Extended warranties available directly from us.

Not sure about the known buzzing thing - but if there is an issue - I am sure it would be covered - no matter whom you buy from.

      ODS.

      • Able to beat the other price then? :)

  • I bought my PS50C550 for $1250 from Myer, and if you manage to find the B550 in stores I reckon it could be had for around $1000.

    • I shopped around for ages to get $1380. Was told that this was below cost by a few stores.

      • Harvey Normans cost was $1091 and Myers was $1180 for this particular model. Good Guys and JB wouldn't have a bar of it for under $1350 though.

  • The flier I picked up did not list the B model.

  • -1

    VIVO better :) much cheaperrrr

  • Probably a good deal, but I just bought a Samsung PS58C7000 for $2399 with additional four year warranty for $399, all up $2,798

3.5cm thick and only 33kg without the stand

Also eligible for the 3d bluray and glasses redemption : )

  • NO deal Delivery is rediculously expensive, why is it a 40-60 kg tv is has a shippign weight of 165kg pushing delivery costs of $249 to ship to most capital cities?
PS50B850 - Full HD Super Slim Series 8 Plasma - only 30mm Thin! - $1649.00, is now pushing $2000 dollars

correct me if I got the delivery charges wrong.

    • Fenrer,

Whilst i see the math you have used it is incorrect.

The TV may itself weigh 40-60KG and be only 30mm thin - but the shipping is calculated on:

The PHYSICAL (or cubic) dimensions of the box (you know the thing that has the protective padding and the foam and the stand an accessories in it :) ) or the weight - which ever is greater (in this case the cubic capacity of the box.

The shipping calculation also included FULL insurance - which means if it arrives damaged - WE cover the cost of sending you a new one - ASAP - no excuses and for your protection.

The shipment is also done by PROFESSIONALS - with 1 day to most capital cities (east coast) - and 1st class specialised shipping just isn't cheap.

I hope that helps explain it?

      ODS.

    • As the rep explained, it has to do with a thing called volumetric weight (or cubic weight)

Think of it this way, you have 1KG of lead and 1KG of feathers.
It would be fairly obvious that the feathers are going to take up MUCH more space in a tuck than the lead will, this then means the freight company can carry less other parcels in the truck.
Because of this you are charged more to ship the feathers.

The shipment is also insured (as said above) so there will be at least $20-40 of insurance cost in the shipping cost.
