I bought two brand new units 3-4 week ago from Officeworks for $189.10
They had quite a few for sale at the three Officeworks locations I visited that weekend. A refurbished unit for $180 inc. postage does not seem so great.

    • Agreed, latest map + 9 months extra warranty worth more than $10.

Can you do a little cheaper?

A refurbished unit with an unknown history AND a dramatically shortened warranty, for little to no saving over a brick and mortar store selling them new? Sorry, but that's a neg from me

    • Wampus,

      Little or NO saving???

      Officeworks CURRENT price is $227.00.

Sorry but a post 3 weeks ago that was a loss leader cant be compared to current deals….

Even the $197 from Big W is not even the same model - but an older (2008) version AND more expensive.

      • Cost aside, can you tell me why these 'refurbished units' have a much, much shorter warranty? In my experience if they are refurbished or seconds from the manufacturer, the manufacturer honours the entire original warranty?

        • Wampus,

The warranty is what was outlined by TOMTOM, i.e TOMTOM stipulate (as they "refurbish" the units) what the warranty period is.

AFAIK 90 days is standard for "refurbished" units.

We are lucky that in AU and with some of our partners they allow for the SAME warranty as a new product.

          • @ODS: Thanks for your replies, rep. In my experience (supply chain management etc) returned goods are honoured with full warranty, but I've never dealt with TomTom so I don't know their practices.

I'll let others vote with their buttons, but I'll stick with my neg, I wouldn't buy this due to the warranty and unknown history. Cheers

            • @Wampus: Wampus,

No worries - however this is what we do for a living and I would be happy to share some statistics with you.

Some of our clients DO NOT even honour ANY warranty for refurbs - Samsung Au is a GREAT example - e.g any Samsung item sold that isnt new is NOT covered by ANY Samsung warranty……. not ever.

Of the ones that offer a full 12 months warranty for "refurbished" its only Kodak, Nikon, Panasonic that offer a full warranty…..

Delonghi, Kenwood, Grundig, Bush, Gaggia, Krups, HP, TiVo, Talon, Husqvarna, Poulon, Onkyo, Harman Kardon, JBL, Navig8or, Laser Co, iHome, and others offer a reduced warranty for a number of reasons.

You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that.

Apple is on that list too.

The fact you're getting almost no positives even on ozbargain when you have posted it yesterday means that this really isn't a bargain at all. really don't belong on this site. I personally know (and imagine others would have too) that the pricing on these were an easy $199 at HN but didn't get it then, why would I get it from you now. For what is essentially second hand goods.
