Received an email from Geekbuying advertising Xiaomi Mi Band 2 for $29.99 USD (around $39.50 AUD). Use coupon code MIBDII to get $3 off.

The price has been gradually dropping though over the last couple weeks. Xiaomi is not doing great either, and there are also competitions that are cheaper (Teclast H30 for example). A few stores on Aliexpress also said to offer the watch for under USD$29 (although they all seem to be unavailable, just showing low price to get you to see their items). So it might get cheaper next month…

Anyone own one of these? Would like to know how's the app.

    • +5

Yep. It is great little band. Does everything as advertised. I used it for running this afternoon. The tracker works fine and records the heart rate with the other metrics too.

      • +6

I have used fitbit flex in between my two Xiaomi bands. I think each miBand outweighs the fitbit by the ratio of 10:1 Does not even come close. My fitbit is lying in the drawer somewhere. Certainly, I paid more for one fitbit than the two bands combined.

        • Is there an app for the Apple devices for this band ?

        • @Arsi: Don't use apple devices but I've read there are apps for the band.

      • +2

Huh? I have MiBand 1S and other than telling the time display, it has way more functions compared to my wife's Alta. This model with the upgrade screen will definitely have more functions than the Fb Alta AND a hugely better battery life (Wife's Alta lasts no longer than 3 days now, compared to 30+ on this model).

      • guess I need to provide more information.
my wife has the Garmin vivosmart HR.

My miband 2 seems to exaggerate the steps, I'll be on a couple hundred, I'll walk up and down the house a few times, and all of a sudden, bam i'll be on over a thousand… my house isn't that big.

while the miband does have some water resistance the HR is water proof and can be used for swimming

the heart rate monitor on the miband one second it will be 90, next will be 70, then 110…(all while sitting down)
the garmin seems to monitor more regularly and displays a better graph.

the touch screen on the miband, isn't a traditional touch screen, its almost a button.
miband only displays steps, hr and time - hr displays cals burned, floors and a few other things,
        garmin controls the phone (music)
gamin apps leaves the miband app for dead.
the garmin displays part of the messages as well.

The compete features on the garmin are quite good, it gets you to compare and compete with friends which helps getting active…

don't get me wrong Id buy the miband again as they are cheaper specially if the additional features don't matter… however, there is a reason the garmins are more $$ and the battery doesn't last as long… they take your heart rate frequently, screen seems to be one more.

Disclaimer: Never used another fitness band/smartwatch (it's not really a smartwatch..)

Been using it for almost a month connected to my Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.

There are two main apps that I use. Mi Fit and Mi Band Tools (~$3 in the Play Store). Learnt about Mi Band Tools from a comment on here from a previous deal. Google Fit syncs from Mi Fit and I use that a little bit too.

Mi Fit: Official one that syncs everything. Required to set it up.

      • Incoming Call alert (vibrates 3 seconds after phone call comes in - there is no option to make it vibrate immediately for some odd reason)
      • Alarm - can set up to 10. Press the button to snooze (for 10 mins - can't adjust). Can snooze up to 6 times.
      • App notifications - i.e. make the band vibrate when you get a notification from a particular app. I have not tried this extensively. Turned it on for WhatsApp but vibrated too much so turned it off.
      • "Idle" notification - if you have been inactive for an hour, will alert you to tell you to walk around. Can set active time of the alert, and a DND time which cannot be adjusted (12pm-2pm).
      • Can setup auto unlock as long as band and phone are close together and connected
      • Can sync with Google Fit.
      • Can set activity (i.e. # of steps)/weight goals

Mi Band Tools: Made by some random and gives you more features. Includes things like ability to set specific notifications for particular apps/contacts.

Key features which Mi Fit doesn't have:

      • Ability to choose "icon" for certain notifications from certain apps from a pre-set selection of icons
      • Low battery alert (<20%)
      • Custom "vibrate" pattern for alerts
      • Graphical depiction of heart rate - broken down into various time periods: Last Hour, Last 2 Hours, Last 4 Hours, Today, individual days over the previous week. Also does daily breakdown for this week, last week, this month, last month. I assume it is done by doing an average of your heart rate for the daily measures.
      • Ability to set Mi Band to monitor heart rate either continuously (I assume this will eat more battery) or at set intervals in one minute units

There are some other features in Mi Band Tools which are a little more advanced. Haven't really played with them/don't fully understand them.

I won't elaborate more because then I'll be getting into really specific stuff. Happy to ask questions if people want to know more.

I really bought this as a cheap "play toy" and I am not disappointed at all. I think the most useful feature is the vibration on calls. I just wish I knew how to set the vibrate to start as soon as a call comes in rather than 3 seconds after. Main complaint is it sometimes disconnects by itself for no apparent reason. However, extremely easy to reconnect. Just turn Bluetooth on and off on your phone. Oh, and I don't know how to turn the Mi Band off. I don't even know if it's possible.

Overall, I think it is fantastic value for $40.

      • Only one caveat to both Miband apps: It does slice through battery life a bit, especially if BT is not connected between the two. The app will constantly poll to look for the Band and it becomes a massive drain (indicated by the Bluetooth module when you check the battery usage). Otherwise, its not a bad app and it does integrate with Google Fit as well.

        • This might explain why my phone battery life seems to have noticeably deteriorated..

      • I use the Notify & Fitness for MiBand app, also ~$3-$4 for the Pro version. Does mostly the same as Mi Band Tools, looks less slick, but has more functionality in my opinion.

        Main additional functions:

        • You can set up custom notification icons and vibration patterns via the app
        • Workout mode allows you to track your heart rate continuously and saves it so you can track and compare your workouts

Note that I haven't used the Mi Band Tools app, only seen it on someone else's phone, so there are probably more pros and cons between the apps. Best to do some research online if you're seriously considering buying the band, as it is pretty useless for Heart Rate tracking just with the official app.

        • Mi Band Tools has custom vibration patterns for any app you like too

        • +1

@Fobsessive: Thanks, that's good to know.

    • The step counter seems accurate.

The heartrate monitor varies wildly, and is inaccurate compared to simple pulse and wristwatch measurements.

The sleep monitor is also very random, only accurate to within 2 hours.

I used it for a few weeks and sold it.

The app is just OK, but there are better third party ones on the Google Play store that enable more features.

  • The Mi Fit app is pretty straight forward and automatically syncs the band with your phone. I've got the iPhone and have also set up the band so that it relays data through to the iOS Health app.

The main thing I've noticed with the band is that the heart rate figures seem a bit inaccurate but otherwise I've found it to be pretty good value over other bands on the market right now.

    • Interestingly, the heart rate figures were damn accurate during my run this afternoon. They were almost instant without a seconds delay and tracking pretty accurately on the tracking stats in the app too.

      • How does heart rate tracking work? Can you do it using the Mi Fit app, or only possible using Mi Band Tools?

        • +2

I used the HR view on the device during my run and also checked the HR readings on the tracking after my run in the Mi Fit app.

        • -1

@search: So did you actually check the accuracy because it sounds like you didn't and then bought up the fact that the app has the same numbers?

The claim that instanteously provides accurate readings is also dubious.

        • +2

@Diji1: I know where my HR lies. I have used strapped HR for years in resting and active situations. Trust me. I know my HR like my phone number. :-) MiBand's HR was very accurate. I have also loaned it to my daughter whose HR matches her past use of other HR devices.

        • +1

You can do it on the app but I'd still recommend Mi Band Tools. Just makes it easier with automatic, you can set the interval, you can set it so it uses the a weighted average over x number of readings to get it a bit more accurate. You can set the hours in a day you want it to record (eg. I don't really want to know my heart rate while I sleep so I have it off at 10:30pm to save battery.

    • What do you compare it to to know it's inaccurate? Or are the figures just way to inflated/low to be realistic?

      • My resting heart rate measurements can fluctuate in some cases by up to 20 bpm, even where there's no increase in physical activity- maybe I'm not taking the readings correctly but this has been my experience

        • Wow, I keep reading the same thing over and over: why the hell are you people not taking 15 seconds to take your own pulse to compare to these woefully inaccurate products in order to show they're inaccurate.

Instead i keep reading these statements that seem to be inferring the things are accurate because computers so why bother spending 15 seconds even though i can tell it's behaving like it's wildly inaccurate without doing this ..

I've set this one up for a friend and tested for 2 days, it's a great device. I have the 1s, also great. The manufacturers app Mi Fit has come a long way in functionality over the past 6 months. I've using an LG smartwstch with Google Fit and found the Mi Fit app better in data and especially user interface. I don't find it necessary to sync band Google fit.
If your interested in notifications from phone to band and you have Android, buy the 'Mi band tools' app from Play Store. This app opens up the device to an advanced level of notifications customisation that I've yet to see in the Smartwatch space. The app can even place icons on band e.g whatsapp icon, phone, bell , message. The app can also take regular heartbeat measurements.

A great device, great price, manufacturer app improving with active development and a great third party app 'mi band tools'.

    • +1 for Mi Band Tools functionality.
The OEM app did not have app notifications until recently, but Mi Band Tools is so much more advanced.

  • +1

@illumination I don't use Mi Fit for notifications aside from the 3 alarms you can set in device firmware (doesn't require Bluetooth connectivity to work). I use 'mi band tools' for ALL notifications - call, sms, email, whatsapp ("exact name1|exact name2|exact name3"), outlook calendar (ticker = "begins at"). It definitely is worth having a play with it and it has extensive help with examples.

    $33.91 from GearBest

However, I wouldn't buy from them, never received my product when I bought from them and I was too lazy to chase up, but I shouldn't have to.

    • +1

      $33.91 USD. $45.34 AUD!

      • Oops, sorry. Didn't even think to check the currency.

I can vouch for the miband 2, battery life is great! i can probably go two weeks without having to charge it.

One issue i have is that the sleep monitor is not accurate. If I wake up during the night, it registers as awake and not going back to sleep. You can edit it manually afterwards, bit inconvenient but great product.

  • How good or bad is Teclast H30?
Its just $25 as of now.

  • Purchased… Forgot to use the code :|

    • lol

Bought it when first deal posted. Am happy with it.
Apps good. Would like extra edit capabilities for sleep like fitbit that will track several periods (eg. wake up at 3am for an hour, but doesn't show). Am checking Google Fit app, but doesn't seem to be much better.
Charged it weekend before last & is currently on 51% battery. Think I have only charged it 2-3 times since getting it.
My testing shows like many optical sensors, HR tracking is variable. Usually fine for activity tracking, but not great for exercise.
Some examples - took my RHR this morning 4 times & showed around 95 bpm, when I know it was 50. Just tried then & took 3 attempts to get a read & in the middle of the morning after walking around was 58. Comparing to my Garmin bike computer is is usually out on each of the exercise phases of WU, work, CD. CD the other night showed 100 bpm on computer & band was 165 (which I never actually got up to in the work phase anyway). Have also checked to the Garmin smartwatch. Both with strap.
If you have good skin connectivity & no movement, you can often get a correct read.
I would have bought the Garmin tracker if it allowed to pair to chest strap & still might if they allow in a firmware update.
Steps seemed comparable to the fitbit.
Have seen problems on forums of pairing, but has been ok for me.
Inactivity reminder is great, though does go off occasionally when I'm already walking.

  • so far I've had to send two back as the charging circuit was faulty from factory. seems xiaomi have dropped the ball on quality with this release. third one is working ok..

  • If you try to buy 2, it becomes more expensive…

    • +1

      Make 2 separate orders.

  • How much is the shipment?

    • It comes with free shipping.

      • Thank you.

This is for airmail, which usually takes 15-30 days.

How about for DHL? is there a discount on this?

        • No discount on DHL. Currently showing as $14.90 for me.

  • -1

TBH, I just paid an extra $15 to on ebay to have it here next Tuesday, and with some peace of mind RE: warranty….

    Neg away haters!

    • +1

I paid $52 via DHL from banggood for mine - took 4 working days, I had two DOA and both were refunded in 1-2 days (didn't even have to send them back).

Yeah sure local might be easier for some but good luck getting that kind of customer support locally.

  • Can anybody comment on the strap for it please?

I had miband 1 and I have big hands. The strap would almost always get loose and fall off as I could not close it at any other level than the last one. Also it would be very comfortable to wear. I got a bigger strap that closes in 2 places but I still could not close it at a comfortable level. I do not care about the hart monitoring function.

    • Straps great. Alot easier to get on than the fitbit & doesnt come off. Have pulled it off a couple times putting my hand into tight spaces.
Not sure what hand size has to do with it, but my son can only just get his Garmin tracker around his wrist & this one is only marginally bigger.

    • Just measured last hole at around 20 cm, 2nd last 19 cm around wrist.

  • I'd rather wait for the Aliexpress deal. Much more trustworthy.

  • FYI, Mi Band 1A is on eBay from Hong Kong sellers for under $18 shipped.
Greatest value of all time if you mainly want notifications and not the fitness capabilities.

  • How does this compare to the Teclast band ?

    http://www.xiaomitoday.com/teclast-h30-smartband-review/

    • Wow. Never heard of it, but that looks like it could potentially be even better value than this Xiaomi Mi Band 2. Would be keen to hear from anyone who has tried.
