    • That's a MediaTek phone and the Chinese version with less 4G bands.

This RN3 is the Taiwan version and is currently ~$16 US cheaper than Xiaomi Taiwan.

        • I don't think you understood what I said.

The Redmi Note 4 has a MediaTek SoC instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon and supports less 4G bands, e.g. B28.

This deal is on the Redmi Note 3 and is cheaper by ~$16 US than what Xiaomi Taiwan sell it for.

          @Clear:
Helio X20 and Helio X25 are the top of the line processors from Mediatek and they are in competition with Snapdragon 820. Helio X20 and Helio X25 are Deca-core processors which mean they have 10 cores and it is the most for a mobile processor right now. They are built on the new and innovative Tri-cluster CPU architecture having ten processor cores. They consume low power, gives enhanced gaming performance, supports 32MP camera and much more. Below are the clock speeds of Helio X20 and Helio X25 processors from Mediatek.

@Allan69: So, to summarise your points.
          1) You think that Mediatek is better than snapdragon.
          2) You are wondering why people are buying the Note 3 (Snapdragon) when the Note 4 (Mediatek) is cheaper.
          3) You assume everyone has friends in China who can bring one to Australia for them for free (no postage).

I think everyone understands what you are saying, it's just that most of us would rather get the Note 3 with snapdragon and with google play / andriod already in the phone as opposed to getting the Note 4 with mediatek and having to root the phone / install google play yourself.

I can anticipate your next question, so I am going to answer it now.
Yes, it's easy to root. Yes, it's easy to get google play. Yes, some chinese sellers will install google play for you. However… I would much prefer to receive the phone sealed, with the andriod system installed by manufacturer. I do not like some unknown guy to be tinkering and doing dodgy things to my phone before I receive it.

        • Snapdragon version of the RN4 is probably not far away, as they cannot sell the Mediatek versions in India, which is a big market for them.

        • @Brianqpr: why are they not allowed to sell phones with Mediatek?

        • +2

Some sort of patent dispute that is going on. although it seems things may change. Read about it recently. Couple of links discussing it here:

          https://www.quora.com/Why-cant-Xiaomi-launch-mediatek-powere…

          http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/qualcomm-patent-agreeme…

        • @Brianqpr: thanks for the links, never knew!

      • Hi Clear,
I purchased Xiaomi Note and it has been working perfect. I recon way better deal than these samsung ones, especially if you compare prices with functions they provide.

I am looking to order 3 Xiaomi Redmi note 3 phones with cover & screen protector.
        1. If I order 1 gold and 2 grey, will I get them in one package or 3 separate packages? (i will order them together in one transaction).
        2. How do I choose DHL as courier option? There is no option for it.

    • +12

Question: Can you purchase from mi.com?

Don't bother answering that, the answer is no, you can't, so don't use it as a price comparison

        • +13

          Just stop…

        • +10

          Hi ALLAN69 RUOK?

      • -1

So you will find Xiaomi mobile won't last 6months.

  • +2

Is the Note 3 Pro global slightly bigger than the non-global version?

I bought a case for the Note 3 Pro and it doesn't fit!

    • +4

I think this international "Kate" model is marginally larger than the RN3P Chinese model "Kenzo".
      Weird, I know.

      • +1

Where can I buy "Kate" cases?

        • +3

          in Taiwan.

    • +5

yeah this is actually so f**ked. I bought a Redmi note 3 case and it doesn't fit. I've googled and ebayed, there is literally no case available for this phone at the moment.

so guys, BE AWARE. NO CASE AVAILIABLE AT THE MOMENT

      • Yep I've started to come to this conclusion sadly.

  • +6

Wonder if my week old order will ship one day? Good thing I paid extra for shipping. If i knew it was out of stock when I ordered, I wouldnt have.
    Last order with these jokers

    • There were 800 units instock at time of posting. The popularity was not expected. There are well over 1000 units on this one.

      • +3

When they took my money I assumed they could fulfil the order

      • +4

The popularity of the official global version(otherwise known as Special Edition) of Redmi Note 3 Pro is expected unlike many other Chinese phones because 1) Google Apps & Global Rom are pre-loaded, which makes this phone usable instantly out of the box 2) Nearly all Chinese & Xiaomi Apps are removed 3) The phone supports almost all bands for Australia 4) There is no phone at this price range better than Redmi Note 3 Pro 5) All other Chinese phones that have better specs than Xiaomi either lack the community support or don't have Google Play out of the box.

        • +2

I'm well aware of that. It's the whole reason I asked Geekbuying for a discount. The deal literally ended within 4 hours of posting and more stock was allocated hours later.

    • nothing to see here

  • What happens with warranty issues or is it bad luck buster if something goes wrong

    • +1

Likely have to send it back.

Activate Refunded Returns at Paypal so they'll cover the return costs. Auspost now ship lithium batteries by air too as expensive couriers are not an option.

    • +1

You have free returns with Paypal if you pay through them so won't be an issue i guess?

      • presumably that's for DOA and shipment issues and not for a warranty claim after some months?

        • +5

As long as I'm still around I'll make sure they honour it.

    • Only one person asking about warranty! What has become of ozbargain :o

  • +2

Nice phone so far, although if getting for micro SD card support be aware, for some reason RN3P doesn't like the format in NTFS. You'll need to format and change format to FAT32

    • +6

Also, for cards over 32gb, a little program called GUIFormat quickly and easily formats them as FAT32. Windows won't. I found a couple of other solutions, but one took HOURS and then failed and others seemed to require elaborate software and then were potentially slow. It took only a couple of minutes, if that, with GUIFormat and it's only a tiny program. I'm using a 128gb in my RN3P,

      • +1

Can you just format to ext4?

      • +1

        Thanks will try that program

  • Does any of these two has dedicated SD card slot, or is shared with sim slot 2 ?

    • +1

      Shared with SIM slot.

      • +1

Thanks, Moto G4 plus is still the best :)

        • @shanakatak: Much better to have a separate slot for all 3 (sim 1, sim 2, sd card), than have to faff about with lighters and superglue. Besides what if you want to port carrier on the glued SIM, or upgrade to a bigger SD card, and they are super-glued together? You have to replace both simultaneously, no? And what if the phone's connectors are broken or the tray gets jammed with this trick? Comments underneath these videos/guides tend to have people concerned they have done both. And no way it's covered by warranty.

        • +1

          @nickj:
I know about the risks, however if someone does need the dual sim functionaility it at least is a workaround.

        • +1

@shanakatak: Completely agree, better to have a workaround than nothing, and I appreciate that you were only trying to help. My hope is that the phone manufacturers will lift their game and stop making people use these workarounds, and just give us 2 SIM slots (with 4G+4G or 4G+3G, rather than 4G+2G) + separate SD card slot.

        • +1

          @nickj:
Hopefully, but not everyone cares about these things so Im doubtful.
However I heard a rumour that new android phones will have an exclusive audio jack that is universally shared and won't require adpaters for legacy headphones.

  • +1

does anyone have a mi max? what are your thoughts on the phone? i have current have an lg g4, would it be a downgrade?

    • +3

Camera undoubtedly would be a downgrade from the lg g4. On the bright side, the mi max probably won't bootloop on you at some random point in the future.

    • It would be a downgrade unless you manage to get Mi Max SD 652.

      • +1

Nothing wrong with Mi Max running on SD650. Mi Max with SD652 isnt necessarily better, just a slight edge.

That said I wouldn't say Mi Max is an upgrade over LGG4, but it doesn't seem like a bad phone at all. OP, my LGG4 boot looped…

  • Does anyone know if there are going to be B28 versions of the Redmi Pro, Mi Max or Redmi Note 4 Pro?

  • Gold International ones in stock?

  • +4

I received this phone yesterday, the dark grey colour is really nice.

This was a very good purchase. Very fast, great screen, extremely fast fingerprint unlock.

and so far with the same usage that drains my nexus 5 to 5%, I am only at 75% (so far 1 day and 4 hours from 100% charge with 2hrs 20 minutes screen on time.)
4 days 16 hours between charges isn't bad ay?

    • Have you had a chance to use the camera? What's the quality like?

      • +1

I've only tried low-light indoors. It was pretty bad! Not noisy but just kind of blurred like it wasn't focusing properly.

From the reviews, it performs 'meh' in low light, but quite acceptably in outdoor light. Definitely not a phone for taking good photos with, but I expect it to perform pretty good for outdoor.

Here's a detailed review if you want to see for yourself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhi-pS7jZ80

        • +1

Yeah it's supposed to be better than my Redmi 3s, and I found my Redmi to be worse in low light than my $69 Lumia 640. The cameras on these phones are the only negative point for me.

        • +2

          @Ronnnie:
Thanks for feedback. In all fairness, most people would have paid between $129-$159 prepaid for the Lumia 640, more unlocked.

      • +2

These were all shots from the phone posted by a whirlpool user, about a week or so ago. I'd have to agree with them in what they said, that the phones camera is actually really good. It's just that people expect DSLR quality in low-light settings with phone cameras for some reason, when the reality is that basically no phone under $800 and even the majority of point & click hand held cameras are capable of doing low-light photos nicely.

        • +1

I don't, I was expecting it to be similar or maybe better than my cheap Lumia. They do great outdoors in goodlight. :)

        • +1

@Ronnnie: just wondering, is your picture quality in the camera settings set to high? Because it's on standard by default so people might tend to overlook it.

        • yep that's the pics from the youtube vid posted earlier - vid samples in the prior link as well.

        • +2

          @nanoronline:

Set to high quality. It's great outdoors in good light, like the pictures posted above. It's only when you move indoors that the camera turns to crap. Maybe my expectations are too high given the price point and all the other high end specs. The Lumia 640 is probably a harsh comparison, because the camera is the strong point of all Lumia phones and they cut back in other areas to provide a reasonable camera.

        • +1

@Ronnnie: Yeah, I have a Nikon Coolpix point & click that cost $150 and it takes photos in low-light & night that are no better than my RN3 does. I really don't know what to make of anyone thinking they are getting a good performing camera in low-light conditions for a phone under $250. Photographers who know what they are doing and use DSLR's still struggle to consistently get good low-light photos without serious know-how, the right conditions and equipment.

not sure if this phone has band B28. check the above link. I'm not sure if it's the same phone though

Waiting for a Deal on the Mi Max 4GB / 128GB model.. :-/

  • +1

The note 4 looks like a nice upgrade to this. https://youtu.be/ktDjwRF4mEw

Hopefully snapdragon 652 global version comes out for it. I like the redmi phones, constantly improving. Only thing I found is the cameras are crap. I guess you can't complain too much when they are only around $200. :)

  • +2

Sigh….Still waiting for my order of the Grey from the 01/09 to be processed :(

    • Wouldn't that be far beyond the processing time? I am still waiting on mine for almost 5 days so far.

      • +2

Yeah i'm thinking they just take in huge orders and to get funds in and then order from Xiaomi, rather than having actual stock to sell first.

        • +3

JUST GOT TOLD my order will no ship till after Wednesday next week!!!

        • +1

@Huntakillaz: they told me to "be patient" for my order from last week. I guess that is when mine will ship, if I am lucky
          Pathetic

        • +1

          @ramsheed:

I would have thought you two would be the first served if you've been waiting this long. @clear said they got 1000 in stock before the sale, so surely they'd have assigned yours first? Seems like a long processing Time if it is next Wednesday.

        • +1

@Huntakillaz: Can you please PM me your order number?

        • +1

  • +2

Is there a Mi5 4GB international model available anywhere?

  • Are they new or refurbished? Thank you

    • New…R U Ok❓

      • +1

Yes….I dont know anything about this company. Just googled looking for older new models of samsung notes for a gift and it led me here. Sorry!

        • +2

It's a great phone, worth every cent.

  • @ Associated

Taking a photo with flash takes over 3 - 4 seconds to focus and fire the flash. The rest of the phone is very fast and snappy. Can you comment whether my phone has an issue with the camera?

    Thx

    • Try using a different camera app via the google play store and see if it makes a difference. I have the phone and my camera takes shots instantly, or if focusing, only takes a fraction of a second.

  • If I had waited one day I wouldn't have ordered the Nexus 5X…
The company has already shipped it too.

  • Clear, are you going to source out a bundle with this phone? Tempered glass and case? thanks

  • I usually expect to wait 4 weeks …… Then a surprise turns up ……

  • The idle/standby battery life of 2 to 3 days - for anyone who knows this model, is that pretty accurate?

    • +1

The battery life on this phone is fantastic.
Your question is highly subjective as each user is different.
It lasts me up to 2 days with moderate use.

  • so is the note 3 pro better or the special edition?

    • -1

Special Edition is the Taiwan version of the Note 3 Pro. Basically it has better 4G support.

  • +3

Phone works well but can someone link me to just the cover for the note 3 special/int edition? Checked and it doesn't fit my friends note 3 cover

  • Slow processor on this phone, any deals on Mi5, thank you.

Is shipped via DHL or slow Australia Post mail?

    • +1

Free shipping will use Auspost once it arrives in Australia.

      • What are the other options and cost?

        • +1

EMS use Auspost too so can also be sent via Parcel Locker..

        • +1

DHL and EMS. Add the phone to your cart and click "Proceed to Checkout" to get an estimate of how much it'll cost.

EMS shows as $9.78 for me while DHL is showing $40.72 US.

        • @Clear: That is ridiculously expensive for DHL

        • @nanoronline: That's based on my shipping address and is considered a "remote area" by DHL. That's why.
