JB Hi-Fi drops the price of Apple Pencil from $165 to $145 as well, and

Apple Store drops the price on certified refurbished iPad as well.

    • +3

I bought the Air 2 64gb for $619 from the refurb store the day before the annoucement. It then dropped to $559. I called Apple the morning of. And they happily refunded the difference. They offer 14 day price protection :)

  • +3

Nothing to see here, just new revised apple prices.

  • New iPads due?

  • +4

The good news is as per todays Apple event with new iPhone7 and iPhone6s going forward, they incresing their standard of storage capacity with the new base being 32gb and the next jump up not 64gb but a massive 128gb.

So going forward 16gb and 64gb is going the way of the dinosaur/nokia devices.

So these current ipads at 16gb should really not be seen as great value with the trending change of larger storage.

    • +7

The irony is that storage is finally increasing right when people are starting to use the cloud for everything. Really only need space for apps now.

      • +4

Apps are now getting towards a ridiculous size now. A couple of multi-GB games here and there, and you can breeze past 32GB. The OSes (OSs? Operating Systems!) are getting bloated as all hell as well.

  • OW have dropped their prices

    • +1

i checked their website, their apple ipad air 2 64gb is showing as $674, compared to JB's $657.

      • yeah i dunno why yoyo was lying. the website and their instore system wax still $674 at 10am

        • Prices doesn't necessarily mean all, it's a plural meaning more than one

    • you were incorrect.
i checked the website after seeing your price and ipad air 2 64gb wax still $674 and their ther prices hadnt changed.
popped down to local ow 30 mins and got em to price beat dwn to $624 which is a good price currently.

they have fixed their prices now.

i bet some ozbargainers saw your post and believed you.

it was amusing that jb priced one of their ipad pros at $1448 just $1 below ow $1449 setting ow up for a $70 price beat. probably accidentaly tho.

Compared to iPad Air 2, iPad Pro is an utter ripoff - 40% more cost for barely any difference in user features

    • -2

The difference isn't as much as user features as it is performance and requirements.

Going from an iPad Air 2 to an iPad Pro is more like upgrading from a GTX 1070 to a GTX 1080. You aren't getting new features with a 1080, but you definitely get better performance.

      • The air 2 was well specced for its time, tri core 2gb ram.its starting to feel the strain but for a 2 year old iOS it's doing well considering iOS devices age like dog years. Can't say for the air 1 though, that thing felt like a slow dog out the gate.

        • Using iPad air 2. Still quick as ever. Don't think need to upgrade especially since playing with the pro or doesn't seem that much faster

      • +1

iPad Pro 9.7 only has 2GB ram, same as iPad Air 2.
The iPhone 7+ has 3GB ram, iPad Pro 12.9 has 4GB ram
iPad Pro 9.7 could have at least had 3GB ram
Regardless, the differences do not justify the price leap.
Additionally & most importantly, speed differences don't mean price increases - refer every iteration of iPhone & iPad with improved CPU & GPU

    • +4

It's got quite a few improvements actually: Speed, sound, cameras, screen, pen, etc. It's a choice remember, no one is forcing you.

      • +4

Camera would barely be used on tablet cf phone
Pen is $150 extra - which would make the Pro nearly 70% more expensive
Yes, no one is forcing me to buy, hence why iPad sales are plummeting.

        • I think that another, often missed reason for why sales are not where apple would hope, is that their isn't a compelling reason to upgrade for a lot of people. If you've got an ipad from the past 2-3 years, it still does an ok job of what you bought it for.

  • FYI- Apple Stores will price match (advertised price of a bricks and mortar store) up to 10% on nearly everything.

    • when you say up to 10% off you mean price beat? or a difference not more than 10% of their shelf price?

      • Price match only. Price beat - no. Difference no more than 10%… otherwise, they will still refuse to match.

      • price match up to a maximum of 10%

      • e.g. If JB are offering 10% off the retail price of macs, Apple will match it, but not beat it (for obvious reasons)

    Has headphone port. Check

if you want iPad Air 2 16GB + Cell, better to sign with Optus for $20+$15 (device cost) = $35 per month includes 2.5GB data too

    • +2

Min total cost is $840 for 24 months plan. Not a good deal.

    • Is that a 24 month contract?

  • Price drop and double storage, these would be the "old models" then I guess

  • I've just price beat JB HIFI price at OW for the 64gb IPad Air 2, paid $624. Also never had anymore in stock so ordered another with price beat for delivery into store Tuesday.

    • wow, still expensive than what i paid 2 yrs ago, AUD suck :(

      • What did u pay.?

Thats the best price at the moment, so jumped on the deal for my sons birthday

        • $619 from JB and OW not long after this thing launched. And the AUD back then was lower than it is now.

I got it for $588 with 5% off staff card.

        • @lostn: I got it for $540ish with business offer

  • Same price at Harvey Norman

  • Confused why Mini 2s are in the market alongside Mini 4s.

    • And why the 3 is missing.

      • They got rid of the "3" to simplify the mini lineup. So its the 2 and 4 on offer now.

        • Why not get rid of the Mini 2 instead?

        • @lostn:
"The iPad Mini 3 was a great tablet, but with the largely identical iPad Mini 2 available for less, justifying the price was tough"
          According to this article http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/tablets/1402081/ipad-mini-3-r…
Maybe thats why it was discontinued.

        • @titan0r: Or they could reduce the price of Mini 3 to Mini 2's levels since they are largely identical anyway?

          It's just weird to offer a 2 and a 4 but not a 3.

        • @lostn: Pretty much no one sells the 3 anyway, it was so shit they canned it a long time ago

        • +1

@TRENT86: Can't be worse than a 2 besides the price. It's just a 2 with finger print scanner more or less.

The only complaint anyone can have is the price. If they're unwilling to lower it to the 2's price, Apple are just being stingy. It's not going to lose them any money (other than the cost of a fingerprint scanner) since everything else is identical.

So now you have that weirdness of a gap, and everyone's first thought being, what happened to the 3?

  • Hoping the next gen Air has the smart connector. That is the only feature tempting me to get the Pro.
