Sydney to Manila $150 One Way or $260.59 Return - Cebu Pacific Air

720

Hi, this is my first ever deal post on OzBargain. Travel period is between October 1 2016 and March 31 2017. I found Sydney to Manila departing February 1 and returning February 28 for $260.59 return. Carry on baggage only. They are also advertising Sydney to Cebu via Manila for $199 one way. I have not checked what other dates are available so feel free to post what other time slots are there. This is the cheapest I have seen since the famous Sydney to Manila for $143 return over a year ago.

  • Sydney to Doha is $240.12 O.W. You could get a cheap Pegasus flight from there and be in Istanbul for $700 return.

I don't think I would go to the Philippines or Turkey anytime soon, which is a goddamn shame.

      • +4

Comparing Philippines to Turkey is quite ridiculous. One is going through a renewed phase of primitive regressive Islamic rule with all the bells and whistles we've come to turn a blind eye too. The other is The Phillipines.

        • +5

the other practises state sanctioned murder

        • +1

@knackers: And you have nothing to fear from that unless you peddle drugs

        • +6

@GreatWhiteHunter: unless they think you are peddling drugs when you are not and shot you anyway.

Or unless they think you are son of b**ch and can be eaten raw

        • +1

learn to read, I didn't compare shit. I said "OR"

        • @knackers:

If you do your research you'll find plenty of other places also practice state sanctioned murder. The USA, China and Russia for a start.

Are you boycotting every country that practices state sanctioned murder?

If so, your travel options are very small…

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: are you really that niave?

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: Are you boycotting every country that practices state sanctioned murder? Yes. The rule of law must be just. Killing individuals on hearsay without judicial oversight is absolute madness.

Wise choice… this is what you have to look forward to, once you arrive in Phil.

Also, speaking from personal experiences myself, I agree with the opinions expressed above.

    • wow! what date/month did you see this for?

      • Did some dates in Feb. I'm not booking as I've already got 3 overseas trips booked in next year.

  • I'd be jumping at this price…..

  • +2

Just one advise. Don't bring to there: drugs. Make sure people can't smell drug on your shirts. The president is kind of anti drugs.

    • +26

That would apply for, oh I don't know, every damn flight ever.

    • It's all great if you don't do drugs etc but I'm always worried about being framed, seeing as corruption is rife over there

      • +2

Yeh watch out for street vendors selling tasers or viagra. Its a trap being setup. There r cops lying in wait to watch u buy from d vendors n they arrest u n take u for a drive n ask for a 40000 peso bribe

        • this happened to a friend of a friend of mine.

  • +2

unless I'm mistaken pricing for flights at the reduced rate currently is for October and March everything in between is normal

  • +1

About 800 people have been killed since Duterte won a landslide election in May, Keep off the streets after 9pm or be shot lol.I'm taking my bullet proof vest with me next month.

    • +13

what u on about. Its almost 2500 now.

      • +1

Plenty more to go too. Goes to show how bad drugs and corruption have gotten when the mass actually prefer to go through a phase such as this. Been to the Phils several times so can sort of empathize with that view as harsh as it is.

        • +3

@GreatWhiteHunter: Nope - we'd be terrified of the gangs of vigilantes roaming the streets to prop up their own drug syndicates by killing off the opposition and whoever got in the way.

        • @singlemalt72:

Have you been to Auburn lately?

Look at the statistics, Middle Eastern organised crime dominates Sydney….

          http://australian-news.net/articles/view.php?id=110

Too many Lebanese gangs in Australia. Death squads to kill them off would be a blessing.

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

What's that got to do with other countries, apart from you been racist

        • @sambutler9876:

I am not racist. It is a fact that Middle Eastern crime is a massive problem across Australia.

20 years ago it was Asian, but now it's MIddle Eastern.

That is a fact. Stating it is not racist.

Fools on here are saying how corrupt and dangerous the Philippines is. Yet they are either too blind or too stupid to see the crime in their own country….

        • -1

@GreatWhiteHunter: except what has it got to do with that it is Muslims.

I'd much rather be in a back Allie in Tehran then in Cebu or Sydney at 3 am in the morning

        • @sambutler9876:

          Sam, a couple of points:

          1) Islam is a religion, not a race

          2) Did I ever once mention Islam before this reply to your mentioning it??

          3) Good luck in Tehran, I'd take Cebu out of those 3 every day of the week

          4) I assume you mean back "alley" not back "Allie" ??

Read the article I linked to above - you might learn something

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

Learn how to be a crazy racist? For some reason I clicked the link and my brain instantly regretted it.

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:
Lust like there were too many Asian gangs in the 2000's, too much Mafioso in the 80's, the Greeks running the drugs back in the 70's……

      • They love you coz you speak English? Don't kid yourself. Those are the poorer/less fortunate women and looking for anything to improve their life. Try your English speaking 'magic' trick with the middle/upper class. You'll soon discover you need real charm to even have a chance. Something you obviously don't have to post a trash comment like that.

Time to get some Mail Order Brides ! Walk into any shopping centre these days & you will notice 60+ pot bellied Aussie Men with 20 year old Filipina! Where are all the Aussie women these days ?

Filpina's rule. When I am 60 I'll be very pleased to have a 20 year old Filipina bride. Filipina's are the best!

Im Aussie. My wife is filipina from Cebu.

This blog very acurately describes the Philipines and its people values and attitudes.

From an Expat point of view.

I've travelled across phil from manilla to Camiguin island and most places in between, bohol, negros, cebu etc…

My wife had some of these traits… Mostly the idiotic superstitions…

Now shes Aussie too and thinks much the same as I do about Phils.

It's a failed state and it's obvious from the moment you get off the plane.

Don't take my word for it.

        Read the blog posts above.

If you're planning to spend a week there get used to saying 'no' about 10 or more times just walking 200meters from your hotel to the supermarket.

Beggars everywhere… I mean if you are a white foreigner you are seen as a walking atm by the majority of pinoy.

Lots of them are very young kids who sleep on the footpath. Others are elderly missing limbs or eyes and many are single mothers who bring the baby while they wait for foregners to leave the popular hotels and apartment blocks.

90% of filipinas are only with old white farts to escape the 3rd world and for the money.

Im 40 and my wife is 32.

        Been together 8 years.

    • And would any sane man who is 60 years old with a pot belly choose a 60 year old Australian woman over a 20 year old Filipina???

      • So you're saying that the only thing a woman possibly has to offer in a relationship is youth & good looks…right???

That's a pretty immature & unrealistic point of view IMHO…

  • +3

The Philippines president has given his law enforcement a licence to kill (in a sense). Stay safe if you do go to Manila. It's a human rights activist's worst nightmare over there.

    • +3

The Philippines president has given his law enforcement a licence to kill

Sounds like he's a fan of the bond movies

  • +4

Wow. Talk about misinformed and sensationalised comments. Davao, Duterte's home city, which he was instrumental in cleaning up in his (repeated) tenure as mayor, is one of the safest cities you can visit. Sure it has its problems (unfortunately very recently), but so has Sydney, Paris etc etc. At least Duterte is doing something about the issues, in this time of overly politically correct politician rhetoric, it's very refreshing to see a leader actually say what's on his mind, and have a backbone.

Manila is fine, but you'd only want to stay there a few days. Then get out to see the rest of the Phils.

    Thanks OP, good price.

    • +1

Spot on. Too many ppl read stuff like the Huffington post and think their informed!

      • +6

        They're*

        Sorry, had to

      • +1

So which Huffington Post article about the irrefutable state-sanctioned murder in the Philippines is incorrect or misinforming people in your eyes?

I can see why you might not like the idea that some people don't believe murdering drug users (it's not just violent gangs/dealers - it's anyone connected with drugs) is a good thing, but that doesn't discredit the entire article.

        • Live your life in the Philippines and watch your loved ones turn to drugs and crime, and then hear about how the same thing is happening to your friends families too. The problem with westerners is they can only imagine the world through the lens of their existence they experience. Being a filipino myself and knowing that this has happened to my own family for YEARS now I can understand the gravity of it's effect there. Many can't past the opinion expressed in a paper written thousands of kilometers away from the situation.

The Philippines has been screwed by political rhetoric year after year. Duterte's actions, as deplorable as they are by western standard, are the product of a system that has not protected it's people. It is a product of political greed. Because people before him did not make the right decisions for the people many have died so that he can attempt to clean up the mess. It's not an enviable position but in his eyes he is doing what is best for the people in the long run.

In my eyes the Filipino war on drugs is morally more understandable than the war of terrorism ever was. This doesn't mean I approve of it, but I'm not going to say it shouldn't happen.

        • -1

@bset: Complete and utter rubbish. I'm sufficiently civilised to be able to think objectively about policy and not rely on primal instinct to form my opinion. I had previously thought they generally could in the Philippines as well - evidently not (though I guess that goes without saying in any religious society).

And plenty of people have horrific drug problems in the West so don't try and play that card. And that includes my family - people you'd seemingly be happy to see gunned down on the streets (there's very little difference between approving and refusing to criticise).

        • @callum9999: Did you honestly compare the severity of Australian drug issues to that of the Filipino drug issues and think you had some sort of point?! bwisit ka…

        • -2

          @bset: No I didn't, learn to read.

About the only thing I compared was how civilised the countries were.

    • +3

I'm sick to death of morons classifying everything they don't like as being "political correctness". Operating a fair justice system instead of having roaming death squads on the streets is not being "politically correct" - it's a basic human right…

  • +2

I took part in the great $145 return escapade - but I'd miss Manila City second time around and go straight from the airport to my chosen destination.
But I'd have to say I'd vote with my feet with the current sanctioned killings. Addicts are addicted and need help. No addict wanted to get addicted - but I don't have the answer. Perhaps cold turkey farms instead on one of the many paradise islands.

  • +1

I was there last month. At no point did I feel threatened although I was in a good area. Most touristy areas are decent enough in terms of crime. Speaking to people who actually live there, they feel safer in general and criminal types are more scared. Don't get me wrong, I think the current political crap is F'ed up. Absolute power and all. But in terms of safety, just don't act a fool and you'll be fine. Try not to piss off a police officer, that sort of thing. Cos they can shoot you and say you were a drug dealer and they'd be fine.

I actually booked flights last night, for February. Hope they don't declare martial law before then :(

    • +5

Yer. Recently been to Phils too on a weeks long business trip. Primarily Manila.
Its quite refreshing to see some "huge" changes already that this iron fist president have brought. Exposing lots of corrupt politicians (including law makers), cleaned up so many streets and market from dirty shanty and illegal stalls, thousands of scared drug addicts surrendering to get some rehab (well their choices really are: be killed if you keep on going that path and are caught by these vigilantes, rehab or prison if you are lucky). Tourist in airport are better secured eliminating scams such as bullet planting in your luggage. Many more.

Saying all that of course he ain't the perfect President for a long shot. What he can do for the PH economy is yet to be seen. For the people of PH who voted for him, he is a godsend figure that has somewhat delivered on what he is about (crime fighting figure).

As an Aussie observer who frequently go there for business reasons there are good changes happening which is a boost actually for the confidence of the people (where all they are used to living with are corruption in every level and growth in crimes and drugs).

The media portrayal of him has actually worked to his advantage!

Don't care how cheap the fares are.

While the murderer-in-chief is in power in The Philippines i won't be traveling there.

2500 people have already been murdered on the genocidal orders of this moron.

The Philippines is no longer a democracy.

It is under fear-based rule of a brutal tyrant who has given police unchecked authority to murder at will with no possibility of any consequences for the killers.

If you travel there you are supporting this bloodthirsty moron.

The sooner inbound tourism to The Philippines collapses and international pressure to oust the Moron
    Intensifies the better.

If you travel to The Philippines you are playing Russian Roulette with your life.

The final decision on whether you live or die will be in the hands of some corrupt cop, who's probably already shot dead 20 people in the past month. He can happily pull his trigger and murder you at will with zero consequences for him.

So boycott The Philippines until the Moron is ousted.

That's the only hope, sadly, for the Filipino people.

The only reason these fares are cheap is that inbound tourism to The Philippines is already collapsing as tourists stay away for fear of being shot dead.

I expect Cebu Pacific to soon axe flights to Australia as the murder death toll increases exponentially into the tens and hundreds of thousands.

Then the Moron will cancel elections and plunge the nation into a North Korean-style dictatorial horror story.

    • Duterte is doing what should have been done 50 years ago. Killing corrupt politicians and government employees, killing the drug pushers.

PI is so much better for him and is a safe place to go as long as you are not going to be selling and/or using drugs.

    • +1

You really have no idea about what you are talking. Don't just parrot sensationalist journalism articles. After all, no-one sold a paper by saying how green the grass is today.

They LOVE Duterte there, not fear him. This comes from people where he was constantly re-elected for mayor. You should have seen Davao before he was elected compared to afterwards. This guy actually cares about the Philippines, and it's people. When other politicians are posing for a photo shoot, he is actually in there helping. There was a time where taxi drivers feared for their lives, Duterte went out driving a taxi himself to take people home (and he never charged the people he gave a lift to), so he could catch people that were threatening the drivers' lives. This guy has steel balls the size of watermelons.

He has a mouth, he has a temper, he isn't shy with either. He's a womaniser. But damn it all, I'd vote for him too.

  • +2

I'd recommend a trip to the Philipines.

I did it last year on a fare cheaper than this. Spent 5 days in Manilla - not that nice, pretty busy, but taking a slum tour was pretty eye-opening.
Then went down to Cebu - really quite and laid back, with great beaches and water sports.

I found great accomodation using Airbnb in Manilla and cebu.

we want to visit davao for some adventure activities next year.. amazing star fish, clear waters, sky cycling, white water rafting etc

but i would have to pay extra for domestic flights to sydney and flights to davao. wiuld probably work out better to take budget flight to sg and direct flught sg to davao. can stopover in sg for 2 days.

davao is an amazing destination and its still not too touristy yet. best part are that the activities are seriously cheap.

during a sale i could budget $600 pp for all flights, hotels and all activities! for 3nights 4 days

check out this blog. its great because she quotes prices for all activities.

  • Read all your posts about the Philippines and being a Filipino, I believe I am the only one here who can clear things up. Do not trust the news. The news corporations in the Philippines are run by corporations who supported the previous administration, and thus, are against Duterte. The news you read and see are a bit twisted. The President did not order drug lords, pushers and users to be killed. The police are after them, and IF they fight back and shoot at the officers, then they have the right to shoot back and kill them. The police don't go shooting suspected people roaming on the streets. Most of the murders are even believed to be ordered by drug lords for fear of squealers.

Oh, and the latest news about Duterte vs Obama? The news journalist who reported it has apologised. It was said in Tagalog, the national language, and was erroneously translated to English. So there!

Ask a Filipino what he thinks about the current President. 9 out of 10, they would say they support and admire what he is doing. Even those who did not vote for him are now supportive of him. Do not believe everything you hear in the news. He is cleaning up the Philippines - drugs, corruption, illegal mines, and others. Sure he has a crass tongue, but I'd rather that than a "saintly" president who does nothing or who does a lot of illegal things unknowingly.

It is safe to travel to the Philippines if you are no criminal.

I voted for Duterte. And I am proud of that.

    • Oh, and the current administration is digging up graft activities from the previous administration - former President included. Thus, the ill impression the press is giving him to sell to the UN and US.

      • -1

Thanks, it's nice to hear from somebody with local knowledge who actually knows what's going on.

FWIW, I'd probably vote for him too, we could do with a few more straight shooters (no pun intended) in diplomatic circles…
