  • Clicked the link it's shows as $30 not $10
Is there further information or instruction for this deal?

    • Strange, it was working before. Try going through the banner on this page - should show as $10. The URL is the same, I am not sure why it's not linking.

The banner is detected by adblock as an 'ad' element because it contains 'banner' in it's class and script name, so you need to temporarily whitelist the page to see the banner.

  • Shows $10 for me when I click on the blue banner. Didn't have to disable AdBlock .

    • Great! I think what scrimshaw meant was that the banner might not be visible if AdBlock is on.

  • any expiry date?

    • +1

      yes, 2018 most likely
the last one i got from Optus online was to August 2018.
most of the ones i get from Coles/Woolies are Feb 2018

      • Mine purchased with this offer just arrived with an expiry of 01 Sep 2018.

Came with AusPost's "StarTrack" courier service surprisingly enough.

  • good to stock up some if you have relatives or friends coming over, better than recharge an existing number :)

"Limited to 1 per customer. Activate & recharge on chosen plan within 30 days of purchase. Offer ends 30 Sep 16."

Do you seriously need to active within 30 days of purchase?

    • Can they restrict the credits prior to expiry dates? Have problems (No credit) when I switched from Coles prepaid to Optus prepaid. The customer service operator told me need to go to optus store to verify. :-(

Seems it's 2GB of data, not 3GB, Unless you use it by 30/10/2016. Bit misleading.

And must activate within 30 days of purchase by the looks.
"Limited to 1 per customer. Activate & recharge on chosen plan within 30 days of purchase. Offer ends 30 Sep 16"

  • I bought one from Coles yesterday in Werribee Plaza. They also sell it for $10, and expire at Feb 2018.
    Good deal.

Did you purchase over the counter or via the Self Service Machine? I was told by a friend that the Self Service Machine showed "Activating.." when she bought 1 (and that a Staff attention is required).

The card expiry is Feb 2018.

      • From counter. Bought lots of stuff and can't be bother to check out at self serve.
But last time, when I check out at self serve, staff require before payment. That's couple months ago.

      • the simcard is made available for activation in the optus system when you buy it at coles register.

You still need to activate it like your normally would online.

  • Can I buy one of these and use it to pay for things on the Google Play Store?

No (as far as I know).

"Activate and recharge on chosen plan within 30 days of purchase."
    This limit……

This coles special circle provides $10 for optus $30 starter kit as well. But the expiry date is Feb 2018.

    • But how do they force you to activate the sim within 30 days? I guess the only way they could do so is to send you a sim expiring within 30 days, which is not very possible IMO.

      • Saw that there is half price for Optus cards at Woolworth. However, I noticed that they state: sim card has no value and will need to be topped up during purchase. Probably expect you to activate then… Looks like Optus is trying to close the loop hole.

I think this is a different kind of "activation".

In the olden days, all starter kits already have values in them and stored behind the counter. But this means that people won't be able to see their full product offerings an would have to queue on the counter to get the starter kits (and this wastes everyone's time). So they decided to put them on the shelves.

But since they are 'high-ticketed' items, they need a way to make sure that those SIM cards are only functional after they have been 'verified' at the checkouts (which is why the self-checkout counters will ask you to call a staff to verify your starter kit purchases).

This 'verification' is different than the 'activation' where you go to their website to activate. During checkout, you only make the purchase, but on the website, you will provide details, identification, and choose the pre-paid plan.

As to the expiry date, I still believe that whatever is stated on the starter pack is the true expiry date, meaning that you have until that date to activate.

When they say 'activate within 30 days' I would assume they relate to the bonus data promotion, because if you activate after 30 days, the bonus data might no longer be there.

@scrypton: Activate and recharge on your chosen prepaid plan within 30 days of purchase to make sure you can get the benefits of that plan.

That seems to be the case as they seem to have changed the wording slightly now.

          Within "The Details" it says:

Activate and recharge on your chosen prepaid plan within 30 days of purchase to make sure you can get the benefits of that plan.

I think they are just trying to clarify that if there are bonus data offers currently being advertised you should activate soon to get those bonuses as the $30 prepaid SIM doesn't inherently have any attached plan so if you activate it a year from now the available plans could be totally different.

Have just checked this with Online Chat - their exact words:

"Basically, this is with promotions offered along with the SIM pack. Once you purchase the new SIM, you will need to activate it within 30 days for you to receive any promotional offer and in your case, the additional bonus data.".

Thanks for raising this and to the others who commented. Post updated.
