At this price it's worth a try. Might also want to add that they're 150 grams in the title/description.

BBQ ones are great. Chicken is OK. Both of them the Peri Peri taste sneaks up on you the more you eat. Haven't tried the Hot.

  • +5

Been meaning to try this. Thanks for the extra 10 kilos of fat on my body OP

  • +14

Hot flavour not that great IMO

    • Disagree. I have tried hot peri peri and chicken flavour, I prefer the former

      • +5

They taste weird at first but after a while are average and they arnt hot like them Kettle spicy ones..

        • +2

Yeah agreed that the chilli kettle chips are better but this is still good for something a little different

        • +2

@edrift: I find the Aldi chilli chips to be spicier than kettle (though the last bag of kettle chilli chips did seem spicier than previously - I remember when they were eye-wateringly spicy in 90s)

        • @altomic: didn't know Aldi did chilli chips; will check them out

    • +2

      Its not even hot.

    • Hot has absolutely no chilli heat at all. Flavour is tasty though.

  • +7

Thanks Savas. Just out of curiosity, has anyone been disappointed with the service at Nandos recently or even with the quality of their chips? I only ask because we've been disappointed many times and several different locations in Brisbane.

    • Been to my local one a couple of times lately. Served by the same guy, but he was great. The chips were nice and crispy and he asks if you want peri-peri salt, which I do but always forget. No complaints from my visits. Regional Victoria though.

      • +2

I loved their crispy chips, but the last 4 times they have been either undercooked and or soggy. Now it's a gamble as to whether I will get great chips or not. Also had issues with consistency of portion sizes.

    • I've always found they take a very long time to make your meal. I get a half hour lunch break and often it takes 20 minutes just to get my order, leaving me 10 minutes to finish it. :/

The staff have been nice though.

      • +2

My most recent experience was that I called 5mins before to place my takeaway order so that they could at least get started well before I arrived. I arrived, paid and waited and waited. 20mins later I noticed people that came after me were picking up their food, the cook looked a me and said are you waiting for something and I was like yes, turns out my food was ready 10mins earlier but the guy at the register never told the cook that I was here so they never started the chips to complete my order (apparently they wait for you to arrive and do the chips fresh). So I had hot chips and cold food. 1st world problems I know but it just puts me off their service :(

        • (apparently they wait for you to arrive and do the chips fresh). So I had hot chips and cold food.

This part isn't true. Though I guess it would vary from store to store. Any time I order in advance I just pick it up as soon as I walk in. It's always been ready.

5 minutes in advance is not enough time though.

If you've already paid for it (which means walking in and paying when placing the order) then you can just go to the front of the queue and they are already expecting you.

But if you ordered by phone and haven't paid, you have to get in line to pay for it… and if it's during a busy time this could take a while and your food will be getting cold while you're in queue.

So I always go in person to order. Only problem is.. they don't open until 11AM. I don't get a lot of opportunities between 11AM and my lunch time to go there to place an order.

So I usually just wing it by waiting, and hoping it's not busy during my lunch time. If it is, I go somewhere else. It's not really practical for me to go to Nandos on a work day.

    • You could consider Zambeeka's in Brisbane Airport or at Underwood. I have not went to Nando's since I found them through this Groupon deal.

Even without the groupon they are cheaper than Nandos, staff are friendly, I only really eat the quarter chicken meal not the burgers, the chips are good but I choose to get the garlic naan with hummus and tzatziki.

      • +1

Thanks for the recommendation Owli. Usually when I'm in underwood I go to Mangal Char Gril, but next time I will give Zambeeka a go.

        • +1

I've never tried them, I will give them a go next time I'm there. thanks!

  • Worth a try. Try chicken flavor yesterday. Taste like normal chip. Nothing special. Not worth the premium.

  • +2

Skip the hot flavour, not hot and doesn't taste like much

  • +2

I didn't see the big deal about these chips either. Did anyone else find these chips overly crunchy??

    • +4

Isn't that the point of chips to be crunchy?

      • +2

Haha trust me I was expecting these to have the same crunchiness as smith's chips but these were 3x as hard

        • Interesting! I wonder if they're like the Kettle Thick chips..Those are very hard crunchy.

    • +1

      Yes they are very hard.
      Odd texture for a chip

      • Almost like Indo kripik; I liked the texture, just not the flavour.

    • +2

More crunchy than any other but a little lacking in the strength of flavor. Nando's manufacturer should keep the crunchiness but add more flavour. Maybe even a flavor packet like Samboy chips use to have

    • Agreed. They were too hard. And just having had a root canal, it was a bad idea.

    • Are they anything as bad as the kirkland brand ones? those cut up my cheeks and gums

  • +4

Tried them yesterday, not that good. Too thick and not very spicy.

  • +1

Been wanting to try these (just not at full price) so I'll pick some up tomorrow!

  • +1

enjoyed the BBQ a couple of days ago. picked up the Peri Peri this afternoon to give them a go.

    • I just ate a bag of the "Hot" Peri Peri chips.

      they are not hot.

they had a scale on the pack and it was at the max level for hotness.

      they lied.

      I've had spicier slushies.

the chips them selves were very good. however I feel sadly let down by the lack of even the subtlest spice/chilli.

disappointing, as I was waiting for a real chilli kick.

      • +1

They always lie about hotness. There was some McDonalds chilli burger where they had TV ads with people being asked if they dared try it, and you could see them in agony from the spiciness. But when you buy the burger you find it is sweet chilli, not real chilli, and there isn't even a hint of spiciness. False advertising.

The only chips that are close to being hot are Kettle Chilli chips.

        • +1

give Aldi chilli chips a try. I've only had one bag but they seemed spicier than kettle.

        • @altomic: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give them a try. I rarely go to Aldi because of long queues and no express lane or self checkout. I don't ever recall them having Chili though. Is it the deli range chips? (taste similar to Kettle).

        • +1

@lostn: yep, deli range. They maybe made by kettle…..

  • +1

yuck or yum if youre a kettle's hot chilli fan?

    • +1

      It's different. Kettle still great.

These OK for a change but not as addictive or spicy

  • Are these chips or crisps? Or french fries?

    • +1

      Crisps

  • +3

Shit, this Chips really sucks :(

    • +1

      +10 see below comment

  • +2

These chips are not what was expected. They taste identical to kettle. Initially tried them at full price and was super excited in the hope they would actually taste like the real peri peri seasoning.

Long story short ~ they don't. Ripped off

    • +1

Nah they don't. They have that slightly sour taste that nandos has.

  • +1

I thought the peri peri ones tasted a lot like the Smiths/KFC Zinger chips, but with a slight sour tang.

    • +1

Those KFC zinger chips were amazeballs. I gotta try these I guess.

      • They're not close enough IMHO…those Zinger ones were indeed the shizz. If you can find the Smith's Hot Wings chips around, they're even better than the Zingers! :)

  • I don't like it.tried once and will never buy again.

  • +5

i've tried the PeriPeri one , i feel like Nando's should pay me $1.89

  • -1

    Do they contain MSG?

    • +1

      What doesn't?

  • BBQ is good, chicken is terrible. 1.89 should be normal price, but no more.

  • +2

These things are more hard than crispy. There's too much oil in them. They taste like kettle chips that have been folded in half and are thicker.

  • These are not good, I did not finish the packet. Kettle much nicer. I had bought these another time to try.

  • Pringles, Kettle chips and Grain Waves are my favourite chips still… this one isn't that great

    • Which flavor Pringles do you like? I find they don't have a lot of range. Many of them taste bad.

I like sweet chili and cracked pepper Tyrrels chips. Also CC's and Doritos.

Kettle got rid of a lot of awesome limited edition flavors. Of the standard ones I only like Honey Soy Chicken.

Grain Waves I don't like because they're thick and hard. I like the crispiness of something thin.

  • +2

    These are some tasty chips!

  • Since they have great seasoning thought I would post.

Does it have real seasoning or just sprinkled with chemicals? Asking because most flavoured chips taste artificial to me.

  • +4

Another thumbs down from another kettle fan! :(
Tried peri peri - nothing like the peri peri sauce at Nandos…will never buy this crap again, luckily i didnt stock up, just bought the 1 packet to try…

  • +1

This offer valid in WA too? Didn't see it in the current Woolies catalogue though

    • It wasn't mentioned in the catalogue, still not sure though.

  • +1

Damn gotta stock up on the Hot flavour.

I'm a sucker for super crispy kettle style chips and this is just so good.
