Your original code post link goes to the item trent :)

  • how does this compare to the 65" ALDI tv going on sale this week for $799??? Genuine question…

    • Smart 3D LED 200hz TV and probably less input lag

      • +2

I am sorry, but I could not see anywhere where it mentioned 3D on the official specs?

        • just stating what this panasonic TV offers

          full specs here

          http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/televisions-projectors/…

        • +2

If you click on the "See full specs" button on the left of the "Specs" screen it shows a table of specs. In that table it states that it has "3D - (Y) Active".

        • +1

@Micoa: Unfortunately Panasonic's stated specifications for this TV are written by the marketing department and therefore untrustworthy.

For example this TV does not have a 200Hz refresh rate.

        • @Diji1: That's interesting. So if I bought this TV and found in the manual or whatever it wasn't really 200Hz then would that be false advertising?

        • @lainey13: The panel so the processor works at 200hz not the screen refresh rate.

        • +1

          @Diji1:

With respect, are you certain about that? For example, can you provide further details please to verify it does not have a 200Hz refresh rate?

    • Advantage from 4K really relates to the distance from where you will be sitting to where the TV is standing.
Having said that, with 50" 4K you will have to sit ~2 meters from the screen to see the difference between 1080 and 4K.
For 65", this extends to ~2.8 meters.
So roughly 65" give you ~1 meter extra "range" so to say :))
      Source:
      http://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/what-4k-resolution-and-uhd-tv…

      P.S.
But you may disregard any of that "4K" marketing, since good TV is not only about resolution :)

      • So you are saying that the Panasonic is a better brand that the Aldi one (as long as you sit around 2M from screen)?

        • +5

Are you seriously comparing Aldi crap to a Panasonic screen?

      • advantage from 4K is more than just discernible resolution. it gives you higher bit depth and wider color gamut. See here
Even on a 1080p monitor, 4k content looks better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIf9h2Gkm_U

How about you stop spreading rubbish. Your own links don't even say that. Do you sell TVs for a living?

  • +2

I got the previous (non-HDR) version of this TV in January for a similar price. It's a fantastic TV - this is a great deal!

    • How is the twin tuner / external input PIP function on this are the multi window screens big enough? A lot of manufacturers have been taking this feature out (conspiracy ;P) but I use it a lot for sport when I want to go channel surfing.

      • +2

Haha, I've never actually tried the PIP functionality before! I've just had a quick test displaying both (dual) digital TV signals as well as TV/HDMI input.

There are two viewing options - one is a more traditional view with one large window with a small window in the bottom right corner. With this view, the top & bottom 1/8th of the screen are not really used (black) and there is a menu displayed on the right above the mini-picture. Useful for flicking through and changing channels, but you probably wouldn't want to watch for too long with this.

The other view has both windows equally sized across the width of the screen, with black bars on the top/bottom 1/4 of the screen. These are definitely big enough for easy viewing, but the black bars could be annoying if watching for lengthy periods.

One annoyance I found straight away is that I can't seem to swap the HDMI / Tuner inputs (the HDMI always stays as the "main" picture).

My model is the 50CX700A for reference.

        • One annoyance I found straight away is that I can't seem to swap the HDMI / Tuner inputs (the HDMI always stays as the "main" picture).

So do you mean you can't view 2 FTA channels at the same time :S

If so this is contrary to the manual (Multi Window p236).

        • +1

          @abc:

Sorry if I was unclear; dual (2 at once) FTA works fine!

It's only using a combo of 1 FTA & 1 HDMI that seemed a bit finicky - while you could watch both, HDMI has to stay as the "main" screen (ie. the screen with audio).

  • +3

I would probably get this if only I didn't have a 55" TV currently. There is no going backwards in TV club :/

    • +1

I can help you, I would get this if it were 55".

So, if you give me your 55", then you can purchase this.

Win win, we both get what we want.

And if you think about it, I'm actually getting the worse deal as I'm getting a secondhand TV, but I'm fine with that as long as it's in good condition.

  • Great TV, great picture quality, i purchased the 65" THCX800A series from last year, absolutely love it.

I like the Panasonic design of the panel also. As badarz stated, 4K more than resolution, at this level you get 'better' depth of images and colour range, rich blacks etc. A good buy if you are after 50".

I never wanted 65", however we do sit about 2-2.5 m. away from screen. Good for those epic movies ie. The hobbit also to show off and appreciate the picture quality look up the 4K version of timescales.
Until I set up the new HT room with our old BenQ projector, this does the job perfectly.

I just came back from the good guys store and checked the quality of this TV. It is not brighter than this Hisense: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Hisense-55K3300UW-55-139cm-UH…

and the picture quality is also not good enough, or it depends on the contents of what we are viewing?

    • +5

Cheaper TV's tend to up the brightness so that they stand out more on a showroom floor, but it also means the blacks would be washed out and the contrast ration would be horrible. Once you get it home and tune it to your viewing environment it would be significantly improved.

      • +1

ah you remind me when i go to the Apple store, all the devices are set to the maximum brightness. Thanks, I'll get this TV

    • Also need to be careful what kind of content they are playing in store. Some TVs are playing special 4k content from the manufacturer which makes them look even better while on other TVs they are just playing normal free to air TV programs.

  • The Panasonic web site shows both this and a very similar TH-50DX740U at the same RRP. The only apparent difference is curved legs. Are there any real differences or is the 740U just an 'exclusive' for some shop that doesn't want to price match?

    • +1

This came up in a previous post. Apparently the straight leg one fell over too much so they had to introduce one with curved legs. No difference in the TV though.

      • I've never liked those shitty legs, and they don't look all that good.

  • its not 3D, confirmed by The Good Guys

    • +2

I'd trust the Panasonic specs over the Good guys information anyway, GG Are hopeless when it comes to specs, just look at half the stuff on their site which specs are wrong or just not there.

    • As Panasonic's specs states "3D: Active", this gives some credence to a Panel Drive (or Refresh Rate) of 200Hz if this article is correct:
      http://modia.com/what-is-refresh-rate.aspx

  • Hi guys, don't know how accurate this site is, but it appears this TV (or European version) is 60Hz refresh rate.

      Not the same model.

  • Not a bad deal, i'll give you the tip..

How would this TV go for gaming?

  • +1

How does this compare to Samsung UA50KU6000W 50"(127cm) UHD LED LCD Smart TV at $1195 before 15% discount?

    • I'm interested in this comparison too. Anyone care to comment?

  • Was planning to get the Panasonic TH-55DX600U 55"(139cm) UHD LED LCD Smart TV instead for almost the same money. But this post came up and the specs of this TV seems even better so I bought this one. Really want the TV anywhere function and I hope it works well. This one also has twin tuner which is nice.

    • Twin tuner are going the way of the dinosaur IMO thanks to DRM. Great feature especially for sport, foxtel and channel surfing.

    • I think the TH-50DX700A 50" is hard to beat at this price. I am thinking of also buying it to replace my 42" plasma Panny which is only 6 years old. May I ask what distance you will be viewing it from?

      • 3-3.5m. The guy in store reckons triple the distance of the screen size is sufficient viewing distance.

        It's also replacing a 7 y.o. 46" Sony Bravia so an upgrade :)

  • so only 60hz panel then? the site doesnt state what the screen refresh rate is

  • Did you read the earlier discussion (above) about the refresh rate? It would have to be more than 60Hz IMHO.

    • but its not confirmed by any hard source. There's not clarification of the translation of Panasonic's term 'Panel Drive' I see it states 200Hz. If this is an inflated number, what is it inflated from 100hz?

I'm curious as I'd be considering a UHD TV as a monitor.

Currently looking at the Philips, Wasabi Mango, are various Samsung models at the moment. Primarily will be used for desktop applications (video/photo editing) and would be nice to do some light/medium gaming.

My greatest concern is reports of the poor input lag associated with FPS type games on UHD TVs.
I'm not sure if refresh rate is has any affect on input lag. But I figured a TV with a true higher refresh rate would allow smoother faster game play.

      • Try it in store mate

      • Input lag could depend on the panel type. Plugging a Gamecube into my Dell 2407WFP there is a horrendous input lag lol, yet it is fine for PC FPS.

Maybe do a google? However its a new model so maybe not much info. The local GG store didn't even have it on display :S

        A bit out of date :S -> http://www.displaylag.com/

    • … and don't forget to bring a multimeter when you check it out in store :-)
      http://en-us.fluke.com/training/training-library/test-tools/…

      • lol

  • I'm interested in this TV and been digging around for more info. The Panasonic NZ site lists the equivalent TV (DX700 series) as 200HZ MRR and in the UK as 1400Hz BMR.

I think BMR is "Back Light Motion Rate". Not sure about MRR, maybe "Magic Refresh Rate". Whatever they're called, they're not 'true' refresh rates, but frame doubling or insertion of black frames.

Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily, VR goggles do it to stop motion sickness. When used right it works to raise frame rate and make motion look smoother.

It's 'bad' in the sense it confuses and misleads people.

  • I am thinking to check this out in store. I went to GG a week ago and only saw samsung, sony and LG 50 inch models. So don't know how the panasonic compare. The samsung and sony stood out. Only Samsung is 4k. I was interested in that until seeing this offer. If i buy this in store, can i get the discount? The store guy told me that he could do a deal when i am ready. I don't know the common rule of negotiation in store like this.

    • I asked about this yesterday in store and was told no as 'eBay pays for this promotion'.

One of the stores I visited didn't have this in stock - only 2 pana's on the shop floor. 2016 model Panasonic TV's have been slow to be in stock. Everywhere you are swamped by Samsung now :(

      • :( I guess I will just have to order online and pick up at the store. I was hoping to have a look at the store first.

  • A genuine question as i have never wall-mount any TVs before.

Can this TV be wallmounted? And if so, does it works with any specific wallmounts or any wallmount will work?

    • I had a look at the manual and most the cables are on the side of the tv. Only cables at the back of the tv are ethernet, component and TOSLINK. Theres also HDMI and USB but they're on the side too.

Manual also says the bracket holes are 400x200.

  • Was going to get the Sony KDL55W800C for $1,016, then come across this one.

I know it's like comparing oranges with bananas. Pay $173 more to get UHD but lose 5 inches. I don't really need an UHD TV, so ordinarily I would go with the larger one and to save a bit of money.

Then I noticed a difference that may matter, W800C runs Android TV, DX700A runs Firefox OS. It seems Android TV is more extendable due to tight integration with other Google products, on the other hand Firefox OS is more user friendly.

Any first hand experiences with either platform and your opinions?

    • Had a go at this yesterday and definitely the Firefox 2016 OS is cleaner and perhaps simpler.

Also depends on the user i suppose. I am getting this for my mother who wouldn't know how to use the Samsung "Smart Remote" :P. This comes also with a more traditional remote.

  • Just returned from my local GG (Maroochydore) store and purchased one of these after comparing it to the Samsung / Sony equv. Picture quality is a stand out.

They were unable to offer the same price in store. Great Deal thanks!

    • If they couldn't match it, why didn't you buy through ebay? Or was it close?

Some retailers claim that they get ebay rebates, that's why they couldn't go the same deal straight up.

  • I ended up purchasing through eBay. The salesman said he couldn't compete with the eBay promotion price in store, So I jumped online and purchased through eBay, drove to the delivery dock and picked it up :-)

Setup last night and very happy, easy wall mount etc. using standard bracket.

    • cash rewards?

      • Nooo, i forgot cash rewards!

    • I just set the tv up. Did you have the tingle feeling problem with the TV? It is all around the frame…….

  • +1

    haha OF COURSE!!!!

  • Ordered this and went to pick it up. GG guy told me that it wouldn't fit into my Nissan 4 doors sedan. He didn't even try…. :( My backseat won't fold down. I thought he could fit it in at the backseat diagonally to the front passenger seat. Any luck to fit it in with a normal car? I should have paid the delivery via ebay. It is cheaper on it than going through them now.

    • I would have thought it would fit, box isn't huge by any means… seems funny they didn't even try… but maybe they have tried before.

I have a Prado so it's bigger, but I would have thought it would fit across the back seats no worries, much smaller box than my Pana plasma that's for sure!!

      • ya, that's kind of what i thought about not trying. I wish my husband was with me because he would certainly give it a go! The box wasn't that big. The GG guy basically said the width of the box is longer than my car. He didn't even ask if my backseat could fold down. I am pretty sure that if the backseat could fold down, turning the box 90 degree, would have fitted in! I think the guy just isn't creative enough. Anyway, I gave up. I didn't want to show up, ran into the same guy and being turned away again. Lesson learned. Online delivery is cheaper. I don't know how they operate if they can't match ebay price or their own website (both delivery and daily price drop).
