    Ba-ba-ba..

  • +1

Similar price at good guys today as well too! I saw it there.

    • Yeah I saw it on the website for $1295, but it says unavailable for some reason.

  • HDR via firmware update

    • Really? So no hardware involved?!

      • +1
        • So I'm assuming that it will only support HDR on certain sources?

I remember reading that when Sony first did this, it only supported Amazon etc?

        • +1

This TV does not have HDR and may never… Not sure what the guy on OCAU is on about.

    • Don't think this is correct…would love to be proven wrong given I have this TV

    • +1

      no.
look on sonys own site, http://www.sony.com.au/support/download/614088/product/kd-55…
there is a firmware update for this and it specifically says…
      Support Netflix HDR* (Applicable only for 4K HDR models: X85C, S85C, X91C, X90C, X93C and X94C)
      Support HDMI HDR (Applicable only for 4K HDR models: X85C, S85C, X91C, X90C, X93C and X94C)

So no HDR for this model.

  • +1

Saw this on display at JB Hifi today. If you get close to the TV, pixelation is not all that great. But I suppose since most people watch from a distance of 2-3 m away its not too bad. Certainly not a bad deal for the price !

    • +1

I saw that at JB too, but it was Foxtel up scaled. So it wasn't playing 4K content. But could be different store different things being played.

    • -2

Yeah, I still think this is a better overall tv : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/266229 - for cheaper; due to tv networks/foxtel letting us down.

easier to scale up to 1080p than 4k.

      • Was better @ $876…

        • I think the $876 deal was the Sony KDL55W800C which isn't 4k, this deal is for Sony KD55X8000C which is 4k.

Be interested to know how well this works with 4K UHD HDR on the XBox One S.. anyone tried? I got a Samsung UA55D7000 and want to upgrade soon - so looking for something similar in 4K model

        • +1

    55" is so 2012

    • +1

      Which means they're now at 2012 40" prices :)

  • +5

Gizmodo did a review of the 65 inch screen coming out tomorrow at ALDI (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/09/is-aldis-799-65-inch-4k-tv…) if anyone is interested in buying a large budget screen.

    • +1

      It's out today.

  • My old 2008 50" LG picture just gave out… Was in the market to get another set.

I guess it is probably uneconomical to get it repaired?

    • +5

What happens when they give out? My LG is the same age and desperately want it to die soon so i can justify a new one. I have noticed the last 2 years that the screen doesn't work when switching on occasionally..i get excited..then switch off and switch back on again and it comes back to life..i curse.

      • It just went black but still sound.

Undid the back but couldn't see if a fuse was gone or something was gone. Also couldn't completely take off the backing as it was still attached to something, so didn't want to stuff it up more.

Did it back up and no sound now.

Plenty of dust, so maybe something overheated, so don't vacuum the back. ;)

If I could fix it up cheap, I would give it to my sister.

    • Geez. That's no good. I expect tvs to last longer.

      • +1

Yeah 8 years isn't long but the features on it are pretty limited compared to what we have today.

Mum wants to see if she can fix it up and keep it as a spare. Just the call out charge will about $80, then part(s) and labour. If the screen is gone, might as well throw it out.

        • +1

Is this an LG PDP? It wont be the panel. Its the "Z Sustain" PCB which has faulted. This is the smaller of the 2 PCB's on either side of the unit. One drives video the other audio.

        • @abc:

          Yeah.

        • +1

          @gccmelb:

If you tell me the model i might be able to tell you the part price. Only problem is the manufacturer will usually only keep stock for 7-8 years (legal requirement). There are aftermarket dealers however and a good service centre should only charge you a small amount of labour for what is a pretty standard part replacement (provided i am correct and no other issues - but i am around 95% confident this is your issue without looking at it lol).

  • If you guys have already bought this tv, can you please measure the length of the tv from edge to edge? I am guessing it will have standard VESA mounting options as well? Want to make sure it fits my wall bracket.

    • +1

Can't help on the size but can confirm it has VESA.

  • The tv has the usual Android issues… we might return it under warranty as honestly its bugs out every day.

    • As if you are not going to use Kodi

    • Have you gone into settings and updated it? There have been a few updates released for this model that help a lot/fix most of the bugs.

    • +1

Huh like what? Never had any issues really.

  • I checked this TV at my local GG store today and the picture quality was not as good as I had expected. Picture of $300 dollar cheaper Hisense(I think the model is 50K3300UW) looked a bit sharper and a lot brighter, though It could be due to TV settings.

    • indeed..
there would be more margin in the Hisense, so it pays for the sales guys to setup those tv's to look better

      • That's very conspiracy theory..

        • +3

that's very 'I use to work in the industry' theory ;)

    • Acemeister on 14/09/2016 - 18:11

Cheaper TV's tend to up the brightness so that they stand out more on a showroom floor, but it also means the blacks would be washed out and the contrast ration would be horrible. Once you get it home and tune it to your viewing environment it would be significantly improved.

  • -2

Looking at that price, my 70" Sony 4K TV down to $2K is coming up soon. :)

    • Keep dreaming buddy, you said that 2 months ago..

  • -2

Be warned if you are considering this for 4K gaming with new consoles that's are coming out.

Apparently they need 16bit 4K to allow 4K gaming, these older 4K TV's are 8bit.

Someone in the forums here couldn't get his Xbox One S to play games at 4K (I know they are upscaled and not actual 4K), but the point stands.

I'd personally wait at least a year after Project Scorpio is out to assess the 4K situation for gaming.

    • +3

16 bit? This model (which I think is identical to the X810C in the US), has a 10 bit panel. Also supports 4K @ 60P @ 4:4:4 (when enabled in settings), so no reason why it wouldn't be compatible. Don't know of any 16 bit per channel TVs. Seems to meet all the requirements listed here for the One S.

EDIT: Source for the TV info.

      • +1

Maybe take the last response with a grain of salt. The X810c has the "XR960" motionflow, but the 8000c has "XR200". Other specs look identical…

Might have to reach out to Sony.

        • +1

I think you are right about the 10bit part, the One S will play at 4K at 10bit, however not sure what the Scorpio or Pro will want.

I'd still personally wait before going 4K as my TV is primary used for gaming. It's like the 1080i vs 1080p of 4K.

  • -6

Lol, those bagging the hisense tvs don't know how far the brand has come. For $1500 you can get the new 55" 7 series that blows this out of the water.

    • +1

How far have they come in the last year? My partners family bought one (55") as a second lounge room TV around this time last year and it's the most unresponsive TV I've ever used. It literally takes about 20 seconds to turn on.

    • +1

Mate, I won't buy any brand other than Sony when comes to 4K TV. The rest are all RUBBISH.

      • Agree, I never buy any cheap, crap Chinese brands when thinking to buy any products, not just TV

        • Lol, I think you're all missing the point. And I assume none of you read the reviews I out up above? Hisense has come of age this year. But that shows your lack on knowledge o the subject I suppose. Here's 88 pages of views on the new 7 series from the avforums.

          https://www.avforums.com/threads/hisense-55-65m7000-uled-own…

        • ^ Don't get so excited after your Hisense TV failed to work after 1 year.

        • -4

Oh look another "all Chinese products suck" comment. And all Australians are racist. And all Indians stink. Blah blah blah. Let the bigotry continue.

        • @PW: this is for a much older TV. The new series comes with a 3 year warranty.

        • @carleast:

Prepared to repair your TV more than 3 times while under warranty.

    • I'm waiting for the M7000 70" to come in to the low $2ks. Its the top of my list based on my research considering best bang for buck and still wanting an excellent big tv. Any one ruling out hisense based on the brand is doing themselves an injustice in the current TV market. Cheapest its been so far is $2580ish

  • Does this TV do 200hz for real ?

    • +3

      No, Motionflow XR 200 = 50hz.

  • Anybody know if this could fit in the back of a camry station wagon?

    • +1

      Box Dimensions (W x H x D)
      Approx.136,2 x 83,7 x 22,9 cm

      From the Sony website.

      • Thanks for that. Looks like I can use my Commordore back seat and rely on my sister.

        • +1

I've fit this tv in the back of my hatchback…

    • +3

      Please hand in your membership.

You're an Ozbargainer, you make it fit.

    • +1

I fit a brand new (unboxed) 52" Bravia Z in the hatch of my 3-door Getz back in the day! LMAO :p

      • +1

        Good effort!

        • Knees up around my ears but in classic OzB style I saved on the delivery charge (and getting rid of the packaging) lol

        • @cristobaljames:

Hahaha I love it! If we ever buy anything from the city (around 150km away) I'll still click & collect… Would rather pay less for the fuel to get there and back than pay for delivery :)

        • +1

          @cala90: Where there's a will, there's a way! ;)

  • Looks like I have to pay 2k for any decent 60-65" tv. Or 1.5k for a 50-55".

It's not too bad. Just not sure what to get.

    I want wifi built in
    And plex

    Dosnt have to be 4K.

But stable and easy connectivity especially when my plex server changes ip is a must.

  • I paid $1250 for this around Xmas from Harvey Norman.

Not the brightness TV around but has very good picture quality.

Check out the 810c review on rtings.

I wouldn't trust store set ups as the settings and source material can easily make a bad TV look good and a good TV look bad.

    • Can you confirm it has HDR?

      • +1

TV does not currently have HDR.

HDR was added to the next model up the 8500C via firmware update but no info I can find if the 8000C will get the same treatment.

I would assume at this point that it wont ever have HDR…though love to be proven wrong.

I have seen refurbished 8500C's from Sony in ebay for around $1500 in the 20% off ebay sales, but otherwise you need to pay a lot more for proper HDR support it seems.

        • Thanks, that's my understanding as well, just that someone posted that a firmware update was available for this model, which I thought was weird.

        • +1

          @Kleetus:
look on sonys own site, http://www.sony.com.au/support/download/614088/product/kd-55…
there is a firmware update for this and it specifically says…
          Support Netflix HDR* (Applicable only for 4K HDR models: X85C, S85C, X91C, X90C, X93C and X94C)
          Support HDMI HDR (Applicable only for 4K HDR models: X85C, S85C, X91C, X90C, X93C and X94C)

So no HDR for this model.

        • @PVA:

Yeah, thanks, I just wanted to double-check after some people said there was a firmware update.

BTW, do you happen to know the difference between the 8500C and D?

        • @Kleetus:

          nah, no idea sorry.

        • @Kleetus:

D is the next version of the same model.

The 8500D and 8000D version say HDR ready not X-tended Dynamic Range PRO like the higher models so I wonder if they actually do full HDR without limitations.

        • @PVA:

          Thanks anyway for your help.

        • @noise36:

          Thanks.

It's so freaking hard to find out specifics from any manufacturer.

  • The major problem with this TV is off axis viewing along with all lcd. Seriously frustrating that computer monitors have become the standard for TV viewing due to cheap manufacturer costs.
Imagine a 4k HDR enabled plasma?

  • -3

Lol, so everyone has just bought a non HDR ready TV? This Sony really isn't that good a deal is it?

    • +2

Well, the next Sony model that has HDR is close to 2K.

  • So I'm genuinely curious,
What content are you guys watching on these 4k tellys?
In my experience blurays etc look better in there native resolution of 1080p and the new consoles will only upscale to 4k anyway,
so unless you've got it hooked to a beefy pc what is it that you actually use it for? photos or something?

    • Pretty much most manufacturers are focusing on 4K, and if you want decent features that's increasingly all there is.

  • +1

Picked up one of these today and I'm quite happy! Picture quality is good enough for the average pleb (i.e., me) and I've been super impressed by the built-in media centre type stuff (i.e., it's not horribly broken).

    • +1

Remember to go through settings and update it! There have been a couple of updates that help a lot with stability, speed, and add new features.

      • Yeah, it has been really good so far :) I was probably a bit misleading with my quipping about horribly broken; I was just meaning that was what I was expecting it to be like, and I've been impressed that it was not.

    • Is the menu and boot sluggish?

      • +1

Nup, quick to boot, quick to get around.

        • Thanks.

  • +1

I wonder if the price is going to come even down with the 15% promo as mentioned in the deal below: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/267140
