Lol @ latest crop of sony phones

    • Seems like they focused on aesthetics and the camera and not much else to justify the price :/ Hoping the Z6 isn't a disappointment like the X series if it ever happens

      • +6

The Z series has been discontinued. The X has replaced it.

        • I recently read an article saying Sony wouldn't commit when asked whether there would be a Z6, may have been outdated or unsourced

        • +1

          @normanwall:
Sony Xperia XZ is the Z6…

      • +1

They're not aesthetically pleasing at all.

      • +4

Wasn't the Z series replaced with Xperia XZ?

    • Agree. Their QC seemed to gone down the drain. Used a Z ultra for 3.5 years with no issue. My Z5 premium has it rear lens coating peeling off and headphone jack broken (widely known issue).

This will be my last Xperia phone.

      • Yep. Happened with my lens as well. Pretty poor.
I really like the phone but the lens problem has really cheesed me off.

      • Interesting - my Z3 compact headphone jack broke when I had it too. Eventually replaced with a Nexus 5X, which is extremely similar with none of the Z3 issues.

      • Its a shame reading these. Ive been using my Z2 for about 18months and never had an issue.

  • +1

essentially the redmi note 3 pro internal in a better build shell and camera at a premium.

Ordered a phone from sony at the last sale. After 10 days with no update I contacted them only to be told an answer 48hrs later that the unit is now out of stock and they would refund me. Service at sony is a joke for a premium brand.

    • What did you order?

      • +2

        Xperia c5

        • +1

Yeah clearance phone so I guess they over sold :(

        • +1

Same story here still waiting for refund

    • Except Sony isn't a premium brand.

      • +2

        They charge Like it

      • Except ozbargainers didn't pay premium price

If I were you, I buy the 7000D.

        • Both are HDR…the cheaper one requires you to do a firmware update

        • @melb-ourne:

That is not correct, the 8000 does not have HDR.

The only ones that in the 8000 series that do is the 8500 C and D.

        • @melb-ourne:
The firmware Page says the upgrade doesn't do hdr for that model. (it lists the models that would get hdr)

        • @Kleetus:

          Thx Klee,PVA for the clarification..

    • +1

Looks identical to the X700D US model, reviewed here. Quite poor contrast…:/. Other than that, brighter than the 8000C but that's about it.

  • +1

why does Sony still release phones with sub 3000 battery size (2650 to be exact) these days is beyond my understanding.

    • might be size issue. I have a z3 tablet compact ….. its the sickness of the 3.5mm jack …….. but to get it so thin it's light on battery.

There is always a trade of between the size of a devices and how big a battery will fit.

      • +4

The 3.5mm Jack is sick? No wonder Apple has the foresight to let it die!

    • -1

I have found battery life on Sony phones to be amazing compared to other brands, so don't just go by the size.

  • +3

The X is a bit of a misfire but the newly announced Xperia XZ looks like a return to form. Favorite Sony phone design wise is still the Z2, while I use the z3 now the z2's integrated speakers etc were so well done.

    • +1

Agreed, while the X is okay-ish at $700 listed here, I think you're better off waiting for XZ. It's what the X should have been. New camera, chassis, speakers.

  • +3

Sony marketing seems to dominate the company now
Just pretend your product is still premium quality while going with cheaper design & build
All the while distorting & manipulating feedback forums
If it wasn't for the fanboi's their rep would be shot

    • +1

Sounds also like Apple when they have a major issue and Apple decides to spin the issue back onto a customer fault…. Antennagate remind anyone?

  • Wouldn't bother with any company that uses Fonebiz for warranty repairs. Good luck to anyone who needs a warranty repair, have fun…

Edit: They will repair it, though with used parts. When you then have problems with those used parts Fonebiz and Sony fight over responsibility and you're stuck in-between out of pocket a few hundred dollars. Unless it's a repeat of the exact original problem, they Fonebiz takes no responsibility.

If you know ACL you should be fine, have a read about your rights where you are guaranteed a set of rules the Seller must abide by, of course some will not mention this it's up to you to be aware of your rights.
      https://www.accc.gov.au/business/treating-customers-fairly/c…

      • I've already put a complaint in with ACCC relating to the matter. I have no doubt in my mind it's illegal and ACCC will take action (I'm familiar with consumer law), though I've been without the phone for two months already and I assume I won't see a repaired unit for at least another month yet.

Also, it's NOT up to you to be aware of your rights, it's highly illegal for a company to misinform you of your consumer rights. Harvey Norman was fined something like $55,000 a store for misinforming customers about their rights to warranty repairs without paying for 'extra care' packages. If they misinform you and try to trick you, they will be fined.

    • They also use DHL for transport, another fail. Ordered the tablet last week and DHL have (again) completely botched the delivery. Many phone calls and emails later and there is still no resolution, the DHL domestic delivery model only works if you are at home during the day. The case that I ordered from some random place in China got here before the tablet did..

Frustrated, yeah. If I hadn't paid for the case I would have cancelled this order.

Fonebiz have been quite cooperative in my experience. Had my Sony Z2 repaired there after water damage. It was about a 3 week turnaround. Took roughly the same time when I had my HTC One repaired actually.

      • Similar situation (around 3 week turnaround, 1-2 weeks was waiting for Sony to accept that water damage is warrantable), though in my case the returned unit looked used (various scratches) and had a damaged display (possibly from throughout transit though more than likely beforehand - it was packaged quite well).

  • @ Trent, they also have the 8500D for $1995: http://store.sony.com.au/KD55X8500D.html

HN has them for about the same, the TV usually sells for a couple of hundred more.

  • The X has been getting all kinds of poor reviews from youtube tech bloggers. I'd consider it for maybe $399.

    • Based on the specs, it is more in line with the mid range phones…

CPU is a SD650 instead of the 820
      3GB of RAM

but the RRP $800AUD is more in line with other flag ship phones….. wtf?

      • Xiaomi Note 3 Pro is on par and is only around $250 with better battery life.

        • Yeah the Xperia X feels more like a mid range than a premium flagship phone… not too sure what Sony is trying here with it lol

      • it does have an Hexa-core processor but don't know how good that makes it

  • +1

Am I the only lucky one that loves my Z2? Best phone ive ever used.

    • I love my Z3 (apart from the subpar camera) and still great 2 years on and not needing to upgrade.

    • +2

Also love my Z2. Got the 23.5.A.1.291 Marshmallow update the other day which fixed the multitasking issues. Can't think of any reason to upgrade for a while now. I think a lot of people liked the Z2.

    • I still use my Z2 every day. Runs everything pretty much fine but battery starting to not last as long.

Thinking of replacing it soon though.
