Free NBL Live Pass for 2016-2017 Season for Telstra Customer

1190

Telstra mobile and Telstra TV customers can receive the NBL Live Pass for free this year, valued at $60

What is the Telstra NBL Offer?
From 27th September 2016, eligible Telstra mobile customers can access a free Season Pass to the NBL Live mobile App as part of their mobile plan – normally $60.
From 5th October 2016 Telstra customers can also access NBL Live on their Telstra TV for free – no subscription required.
Go to www.nbl.com.au for more information and how to redeem your offer.

It appears streaming is metered (unlike the AFL/NRL Live Pass with Telstra):

Do I have to pay for data?
Yes, standard data charges apply when streaming and viewing on-demand video on the mobile and Telstra TV NBL Live Apps. On mobile, once you have redeemed your Telstra NBL offer you can switch to Wi-Fi if you are concerned about data charges.

EDIT: Offer starts 27th September for mobile customers, 5th of October for Telstra TV customers

"All new and existing Telstra mobile customers with a compatible mobile or tablet device are eligible for the free 2016/2017 Season Pass on the NBL Live mobile App. Make sure you’re on the Telstra mobile network when redeeming the offer."

    Step 1) purchase $2 telstra sim;
    Step 2) register for season;
    Step 3) swap optus sim back in;
    Step 4) profit?

    • Not sure if prepaid is eligible, but you need to redeem the pass through the app while not connected to wifi, therefore you will need some credit on the sim to connect for the internet (I assume?).

and the bubble is burst. oh well

        • Wait for one of the discounted $30 sim offers

        • I guess you can always find a friend/family member that doesn't care about basketball?

      • Is it possible to use the current Telstra Air WiFi offer to sign up? I.e. connect to an already verified Telstra Air Hotspot to redeem the pass?

        • Considering you have to disconnect from the WiFi to sign up…….no

    • I have a 5gig 12 month data sim in my iPad. Banner wasn't coming up for me. Doesn't seem to be working.

      • Maybe because it's not the 27th yet?

        • Oh awesome. That timeframe wasn't in the post when I read it.

The same for the NBA would be a sweet deal!

By the rate of its quality degradation it might happen in the next 5 years. :p

      • Yep what quality degradation hey. Stephen Curry smashes his own record for 3 point makes in a season, Lebron James carries his team back from 3-1 against the team with the best record in history when that has never been done before.

I bet you think rugby league has reduced in quality and long for the pre-super league days to come back?

I can't be sure if you're talking about the quality of the game decreasing or the quality of the live stream? Either way your wrong so I give you a neg.

Ain't gonna argue with teens that never watched the 90 / 2000 era. Curry, James look like some emotional lesbians comparing to the likes of Barkley, Kemp, Wallace and Shaq.

Reggie Miller and Ray Allen are the best shooters in NBA history regardless of numbers.

        • It's not the individual players, it's the teams, outside of perhaps the top 8 teams, the rest are just hopeless and boring as hell to watch. Yes there were bad teams in the past but not so many of them. The odds for CLE vs GSW for Finals are ludicrous.

          @MadMaxBargainRoad:

As a matter of fact I grew up in the generation where waiting for a 1 week old game at 12am at night on channel 10 was a privilege if it managed to air.

Shaun kemp got fat and reggie Miller isn't close to curry. Shaq was excellent and I've never seen a player like him in my life and doubt there will be another with his combination of strength and speed.

The game has changed and players are held to far higher professional standards these days. Lebron is already better than Jordan and that is undebatable after last playoffs

        • @lemmstar: better than Jordan? wow big call.

        • @lemmstar: lol, I dare you to post stupid shit like this on RealGM. Fkn gen y2k pretends that he has watched real basketball.

  • Good stuff!!

    This is a great deal.

Here is the official release from the NBL.

    http://www.nbl.com.au/featured-news/nbl-anywhere-time/

This is what I understand from the article.

    • If you are a club member, all games are free. Plus you’ll get access to hundreds of classic old NBL games.
    • If you pay the subscription fee of a ridiculous price of $5 / month all games are free. Plus you’ll get access to hundreds of classic old NBL games.
    • If you opt for the free version, you can elect a team and all home and away games will be free for your team.
    • Now additionally, if you are a Telstra Customer, all games are free. Plus you’ll get access to hundreds of classic old NBL games.

I don't often give the NBL credit for doing things right but this is a huge step in the right direction for the league.

Hope many people take it up and bring the NBL back to its Glory Days.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully I'll be able to watch some vintage Perth Wildcats games, like the 1990 finals games. That's probably not likely though.

      • +3

Just NOT 1993 Grand Final Game 3.

        • +3

NO! Never!!! I'm a bit lost for words… just thinking about it makes me sad :-(

Wow… that was 23 years ago!

Only on mobile devices, no chromecast or pc. Defeats the purpose.

    • you can cast your screen directly from chromecast even if the app doesn't support it. You just have to keep your phone on (and may be plugged)

    • +1

No its on the web to via PC.

This link may not work because I have already registered.

      http://pages.nbl.com.au/abcstream/home

But next to the Live Scores there is a banner for 'stream and watch now' click on that and register and start watching immediately.

I am (was) watching the pre-season event (ABC), Perth Wildcats Vs Tianjin Ronggang Gold Lions.

Next up Sydney Vs New Zulland.

      • lol you are on the wrong thread. Must be looking for the ABC thread. This is mobile app only (presumably?).

        • Not sure what you mean ABC = Australian Basketball Challenge = the Pre-season Tournament.

        • yes as per your link (pre-season). There are 2 threads going on the NBL at the moment. TO get actual season access you need to be with Telstra.

Having said that once you've setup an account using your MOBILE (through telstra) you may be able to still view streams on your PC?

        • @gimme:

Oh sorry I didn't know there was a thread just for ABC streaming.

Edit : I'm not sure the answer to your question. I would hope so.

    Oh NBL.

  • +2

haha I saw the NB part and got excited. I wonder what country I'll pretend to be living in to get a cheap NBA pass this year. lol

  • -5

We use to joke it was NBL lay up vs NBA jam.

  • -3

    Had to Google NBL

    • +3

      you actually made me laugh

  • +1

Please also note that the value of the subscription is not 'really' $60.

The NBL season lasts for 6 months including playoffs.

    6 x $5 = $30.

Its $60 is you wish to subscribe post season and still have access to on-demand games.

  • I'll be more interested when the canons re-enter the competition!

  • -4

NBL play out of regional centers now due to low crowd numbers and interest

I bought a basketball backboard/ring setup from rebel and put it up in my driveway. Someone from the NBL made contact with me and asked if I would like to host a game for a bag of doritos and a signed photo of Andrew Gaze

  • OK so am I correct in assuming my "banner" to click on in the app and on the web site only do not appear because the offer's not activated yet?

Assuming I have to wait till the 27th?

  • It's the 27th of Sept. and the link now appears to be broken :(

Has anyone been able to find where to sign up for this offer?

  • no banner for me either.

  • Anyone get this to work yet?

    • nope

  • Attention pre-paid customers, apparently this offer is only available to those of you on the Pre-Paid Plus and Freedom Plus plans. I just confirmed this via chat with the Telstra Pre-paid team

    • +1

did you also confirm how/when we can sign up?

      • The offer is currently active. I signed up at https://www.nbl.tv/

  • I signed up for my account this morning using a $2 telstra prepaid sim card. I even managed to do it with no credit by swapping to wifi then swapping back to sim during the sign up process. Did it via the android app.

  • +1

Can confirm, there's an update to the app. Signed up, claimed code, done :)

    • Awesome thanks it worked

  • Grabbed one account on my mums mobile and another on a $2 sim, 5 Days to go :) Go Cats!!!!!!!

  • anyone having trouble watching the live stream games via the android app?
i have an account via telstra but it says invalid subscription.

    • No issues here. Using android app and casting (chromecast) on big TV. Frame rate (obviously) isn't the best on the big screen but quite watchable.

May be re-sign up/reset via the website.

  • +1

so its only for Telstra mobile, not Telstra Cable Internet ? :(

    • You could get a Telstra TV if you're not a Telstra mobile customer
